GOSHEN – The process has begun to develop Camp LaGuardia in the Chester-Blooming Grove area into an Orange County park.

County legislators on Thursday approved spending some $5 million for improvements with the goal of creating the county’s new recreation area, said Legislature Chairman Kevin Hines.

“The beauty of that project is it is going to be the central hub for the Heritage Trail. You can come in from Cornwall, you can come in from Woodbury, you can come in from Middletown, you can in from Chester, so that is going to be a central area,” he said. “The Heritage Trail is already the county’s busiest park.”

Initial funding  will be used for construction improvements and to preserve and secure the county-owned property.
