The 10th BYD dealership gone in flames / CCP sanctions five Taiwanese pundits
I feel like I gotta get this shirt inside the frame shot.
What you're seeing now is a BYD dealership going up in flames. In fact,
this is actually the 5th dealership since December of last year that has gone up in flames.
Look, I'm not saying that Chinese EVs are dangerous, I'm not going to tell you that,
but I am going to say, are you really going to buy a ticking time bomb as a car?
Also, when they're not exploding, they seem to be transported in China in a
truck bed that's stacked up like they're some sort of stack cards or tofu,
I don't know what to call them. That's not how you transport cars.
And are we sure that these vertical transportation methods that they use
actually meet the transportation safety standards? Probably not.
And recently, a man bought a BYD. Within a month, an incident occurred. He was
electrocuted inside the car and suffered a cerebral hemorrhage because of that.
He has yet to wake up, but BYD has already started to shift the blames away from them,
saying that, oh, this man couldn't have suffered one because of electrical shortages,
he might have just been there inside the car and suddenly he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage
because of other reasons, which caused his arms and legs to not be able to move properly.
And of course, the family members then asked, well, if there was no electrical shock,
why did the diagnosis of the symptoms show that it was caused by electrical shock?
And that there are blisters on his body as well as the medical records show that that is the cause.
And according to BYD's founder, he already gave the reason. He says that there's many
complaints about our car, but we've made systematic steps to ensure that we will not be at fault.
And the government's not going to be at fault. The chip maker's not going to be at fault.
The battery maker's not going to be at fault. It's going to be the consumer's responsibility
once they purchase that car. That's actually pretty ridiculous. Think about this.
They use nationalism, they use brainwashing to lure people in to buy Chinese-made products.
And then once problems come, and they come very often, they say that, well, you're now on your
own. And they're like, oh, it's not my fault. Like, bro, come on. Another brand of Chinese
EV called Li Auto, well, you actually can hear these sparks inside the car. Well,
it seems like your entire car is surrounded by some sort of a spark. And at least you can
still watch your favorite TV drama while you're getting electrocuted. That sounds pretty terrible.
Or it's actually a safety feature. Anti-theft at its best. Very human.
To keep our friends from staying in the toilet for too long. So, I invented this timed toilet.
The design is very human. When our friend goes to the toilet, we just need to set the time.
When the time is up, if the friend still doesn't come out, it will start automatically.
Very easy to use.
Also, as you might have heard, the US actually increased tariffs on Chinese EVs along with
lithium-ion batteries and solar panels. And this actually is the latest move that
threatens a lot of what the CCP calls the three new productive forces because they're using that
to overproduce and then over-export to flood the markets around the world and hoping that
Chinese EVs in particular could dominate the European market as well as the American market.
But actually, if you read the fine prints on this particular new tariffs, it's not that
effective in that it only matters to about 18 billion dollars worth of goods coming from China,
which of course is a very small percentage of the overall amounts of imports that the
United States do when it comes to China. So it's not like this will actually threaten the CCP.
But what it does show, to us at least, is that it's a kickstart to a series of measures that
other countries or other places can adopt. For example, when the US kickstarted this,
we know that Chinese EVs are not that widespread inside the United States, but they are very much
spread around in Europe. And so now, European lawmakers have an excuse to follow suit to say
that, look, the United States has done it, why can't we do this to protect our own domestic
companies? Because every time, again, when you're going up against the CCP or any of its Chinese
companies, you're really going up against the entire state-backed effort. So no private company
in anywhere around the world can compete against an entire government. They're basically subsidizing
the loss of profit from these cars, which can often go up to $10,000 or $12,000 per vehicle
that they sell. So they can drop the price down really low and still make a profit for a lot of
these companies like BYD. And also, of course, another reason is that Biden is now facing the
election of 2024. And Trump has always been about the tariffs. Biden wants to appear like he's also
tough in that arena as well. So more than anything, the tariffs itself is not as effective, but it does
serve as a political signal to that we will be seeing more and more of these types of actions
against China's malpractice when it comes to trade. And before we continue to our second story,
here's a sponsored segment from Puritan. If there's one supplement you want to get
incorporated into your diet, it's a good omega-3 supplement. It's the best all-around
defender for your health. It reduces inflammation, cholesterol, improves eyesight, and reduces risk
for heart problems, as well as helps with joint pain, among other benefits. Today, I want to
introduce you to Puritan's green vegetables. Puritan gets their ingredients straight from
the high mountains of South Korea, and the omega oils are extracted from purslane and perilla seeds.
It's 100% vegan. Now, personally, I've been using omega for about 9 years, close to 10 years now.
I've recently switched to Puritan for about a few weeks now. Here's why. We mostly get our omegas
from fish, right? But that's not the best case for everyone, especially there's the aftertaste,
it might not be suitable for vegetarians or vegans. So the most important part, right,
we often forget is the actual concentration for omegas. Puritan soft gels have a much higher
content for omega-3, 6, 7, and 9 than many of the brands out there. And some say that they
I think the best part for me is the lack of information, or the reduction of information.
Other brands also use this high-heat method to extract the oil, which in turn creates a
lot of harmful byproducts. Puritan's green vegetable is done using a patented method
of supercritical carbon dioxide low-temperature extraction, so it preserves the natural properties
and maintains high purities, first of its kind. So get it for yourself or as a gift to your loved
ones ahead of the holiday season. Use my code DZ2023 and you can receive free shipping globally.

Alright, let's talk about our second topic. China recently announced that they are going to punish
five media personalities from Taiwan. And the reason is that they've been bad-mouthing the
Chinese economy and bringing shame to the party's image. And so they're now facing sanctions,
along with, of course, their family members. Now, as we've seen, whenever you get sanctioned
by the CCP, people wear it like it's a badge of honor because you're basically doing the right
thing to earn a sanction from the Chinese Communist Party. Now, what exactly did these
five people do that got them on the list? Well, actually, Chinese internet users gave each one of
them a nickname. And so I'll go over some of the nicknames. They're pretty funny. So the first one
is that his name is Pickled Vegetable Bro. Now, the reason why he's Pickled Vegetable Bro is
one time during a show, he says that we should look at the shares of pickled vegetable companies
in China because that indicates the growth of the economy. So for example, Chinese people love
to eat instant noodles with pickled vegetables on the side, much like Koreans like to eat kimchi,
right? So the higher the shares of the pickled vegetable companies, it means people are buying
more packets of them, which means that people are eating more instant noodles, so it looks like the
CCP interpreted it as that they're insinuating that Chinese people can only afford to eat instant
noodles with pickle on the side. And so basically, that's like saying, oh, Chinese people are so poor
that they can only afford to eat instant noodles and nothing else. Of course, that's going to make
the CCP mad because they're like, you can't tell our secrets that there are 600 million people
living on the poverty line in China living on 1000 RMB a month. That's so little 600 million
people. And this is from the former Premier Lin Keqiang. So of course, they think that he is
going to be bad mouthing the current condition of the economy. The next one is Field Mice Bro.
What happened was in 2020, Australia, the former Prime Minister Scott Morrison questioned about the
origin of COVID-19, which China started to basically retaliate and started a whole trade
war against the Australian government. And so they banned Australian beef imports. And then what
happened was he made a comment here saying that, well, now that China can't enjoy Australian beef,
where are they going to get their meat source? So China is going to be out of meat and they're
going to start to dig up field mice to eat. And so, again, this is supposed to be this, like,
pretty funny comment as a joke. Well, it got taken very seriously by the Chinese government,
thinking that they're saying, again, Chinese people can't afford meat. All they can do is go
around looking for mice to eat. Right. Again, that's shaming the CCP's image. So that's Field
Mice Bro. And then the third one is High Speed Rail Bro. So what happened was he was on a show
and he was commenting about how former president of Taiwan, Ma Ying-jeou, when he was in China, he
was invited to take a high speed rail train to a place. And then so they show the footage of the
train. And then he pointed out that there is no back cushion on the seat. Right. So back cushion
is a homonym to a bad word that's used in Taiwanese dialects. And so it sounded like, again,
he was basically talking bad about the CCP. And in fact, the transportation departments actually
came out responding to this guy saying that, oh, actually, all of our cars, all of our train cars
have back seat cushions. So that's just simply a lie. Basically, like it, it touched the nerve.
And finally, we have what is the Mud House Bro. So Mud House Bro is interesting because he was
talking about how the CCP's constant threat over Taiwan, threatening to invade Taiwan,
for the amphibious landing, et cetera. He was saying how that it's very difficult for the
CCP to do anything in Taiwan because there's higher buildings, high rise complexes compared
to China, where there's a lot of mud houses. And again, that's insinuating or bad mouthing
China because they're saying that, oh, in China, there's just mud houses everywhere. They're not
developed, et cetera. So again, shaming the CCP. So that earned him the nickname of Mud House Bro.
And finally, the last but not least is Bao Jie Bro. Now, Bao Jie is actually his real name,
and he's a show host for a show called Critical Times, which is a political talk show. And
basically, he was bad mouthing the economy. He was just reporting on some of the stuff,
and he wasn't even that harsh on those criticisms. And yet he's been part of this,
landed out on the list. It's very interesting because it shows the overall fragility of the
Chinese Communist Party, and their ego is so fragile that any little bit of criticism,
they can't even take it. But I also think that this is their attempt to try to say that
we still have control and jurisdiction over Taiwan. Look, we can sanction people because
they're like one of our provinces, and so their people must listen to us. But I believe most of
these personalities, they don't care about this. In fact, anybody that's been sanctioned by China,
what are they going to do? They don't have the US dollar dominance. They can't really stop them
from going to other countries. Maybe not to China, of course, but these people are probably not going
to China. And if anything, this is backfiring because now, maybe they weren't so critical
before. Now they're going to be more critical because, well, there's no other way around
anymore because they can no longer go to China. They're also trying to use this coercive tactic
to scare people into trying to basically instill fear saying that, well, we can punish you if you
badmouth anything about CCP, which most people I think have already seen through their little
tactic and don't believe their coercive tactics. So I wonder if they're next going to be some sort
of an English list, you know, all these English speaking people, including myself, whether I will
end up on a list, we'll have to see. But anyways, that's it today for the episode of China Insider.
We're talking about how the Chinese EVs, particularly with BYD, is really problematic,
and also why China sanctioned five people for badmouthing their economy. If you enjoyed the
