Many of the famous sapphires in jewels usually worn at state banquets and grand ceremonies are often measured at up to 40 and some 60 carats, but I always wondered how large a sapphire can be to put it into a brooch or a tiara so it can still be wearable? How large can a sapphire become before it stops being a jewel and becomes a geological wonder? And why did one sapphire smaller than the giants still make history by selling for more than 17 million dollars in Geneva? This is where I made a research into some of the largest sapphires documented — gems so enormous that even a royal tiara could barely contain them.
So, in this video, you will have a journey through some of the most colossal sapphires and sapphires set into jewels which broke all records, yet with some disappeared after a long journey to New York.
