Under-Eye Concealer Looking Dry & Crepey? Fix it with This Technique

If concealer makes your under eyes look drier and more crepey than they did before you applied it, try this balm technique first. It helps to stop the concealer from catching on those tiny fine movement lines even when I really scrunch up my face. I'm going to start by removing that concealer that I already had on. I applied this in the usual way but I also set it with powder to keep it in place. And this is where I think a lot of concealer advice goes wrong. If you've followed me for any length of time you'll know I've always preferred not to set my under eye concealer. I like to leave it slightly more emollient because then if it does settle into the fine lines throughout the day I can simply press it back into place with my finger. It also means I still have that flexibility to add a tiny bit more concealer later if I need to without layering fresh products over powder and ending up with that dry cakey build up. As you can see this area moves quite a lot and every time we smile, squint or scrunch our eyes that skin folds into tiny lines of movement. So although we want to apply a slip layer, heavy eye creams is going to encourage makeup to migrate into those fine lines even more. That's why I prefer to prep the eye with something quite light. So for this I'm using the D'Alba Double Serum All-in-One Multi Balm. This is not sponsored. I purchased this myself from Amazon and I've been using it around eight months now. What I really like about this is that it's lightweight, it creates a bit of emolliency and flexibility without having to apply a thick layer of eye cream. And that's exactly what we want underneath that concealer. I want the skin to feel soft and supple so that the concealer can sit more comfortably over those fine lines of movement rather than catching on dry texture and making them look more obvious. You can of course swipe this directly from the stick but I prefer to take a little onto my finger first and mix the two sides together. I find this gives me much more control over how much product I'm using because I really don't want to overload this Now I can go back in with my concealer and I'm using the By Terry Hyaluronic Serum Concealer. I really love this one for under the eyes because it has a much more lightweight skin-like texture so it doesn't feel like I'm adding a heavy layer of makeup over an area that already has lots of natural movement. I've laid down the initial concealer with a damp sponge rather than swiping it around. The sponge helps keep the application really soft and sheer and then you can just press the rest in with your finger. Let that settle for a few moments, give your face a little scrunch and basically allow the concealer to migrate if it's going to. Then take a small pointed cotton bud and very gently use the tip to remove any excess concealer that has settled into those fine lines. You don't need to drag it across the skin just lightly trace along the crease and lift away that little bit of excess product. If you do feel like you need powder I would use a very tiny amount wherever you have excessive shine but I would completely avoid setting the immediate under eye area where you naturally get the most movement. Powder is where it really starts to emphasize dryness and make those fine lines look more creepy. I'd much rather keep this area looking soft and supple and skin-like and as you can see even when I scrunch my face up there's barely any concealer collecting in those fine lines and the under eye still looks fresh and flexible rather than dry and overly matte. And if you do get any movement throughout the day because we haven't used powder we can simply use our finger to gently press it back into place and because everything underneath is still slightly emollient if you need a little bit more coverage later on you can add the tiniest amount of concealer without layering fresh product over powder and creating that dry cakey build up.
