This sounds awful honestly #shorts #history

But I'd take a bad night or two for that view!
Have you ever wondered how astronauts
slept on the moon where there's no night
and no proper bed? Because it sounds
awful. Every Apollo mission was
obviously scheduled around landing. The
crew had to be awake and rested at the
time they were landing on the moon,
which meant that their sleep periods
were all pinned to this one event. On
Apollo 11, one of the biggest concerns
was that the astronauts not inhale the
moon dust that they would bring in
attached to their suit. So, they had the
astronauts sleep in their full pressure
suits with everything buttoned up,
sealed away, and it was awful. They said
that it was cold, even with their
cooling system turned off, and there was
noise from the cabin. Things got a
little bit better on Apollo 12. This was
the first mission that used hammocks,
effectively hanging the astronauts in an
X position inside the spacecraft. Apollo
14 had effectively the same problems as
Apollo 12, but they also landed at an
angle, which meant that Al Shepard and
Ed Mitchell were waking up constantly
throughout the night to make sure they
weren't falling into a ditch. Apollo 15
was the first crew to actually take off
their bulky space suits to sleep, which
meant that they were still wearing this
liquid cooled undergarment, which was
pretty uncomfortable to sleep in. Plus,
the cabin was still really loud. They
didn't sleep great. On Apollo 16,
Commander John Young decided to take his
liquid cooled garment off too and just
sleep in his continuous wear garment,
which is kind of like long underwear.
And he said that was way more
comfortable, which is what the crew of
Apollo 17 did, and had the best luck
sleeping on the moon. Across the board,
though, every crew said the biggest
issue was light. They landed during the
lunar day, which lasts for 2 weeks.
There was no sunset on the moon, so they
had these little shades, but light kept
seeping in. At the end of the day, no
one slept well on the moon, which meant
they probably had a ton of energy out
there because of adrenaline and
excitement.
