Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe video discusses the Memphis Grizzlies' current roster depth at the forward position, specifically the competition for the starting small forward spot. The analysis focuses on the trade-acquired veteran Jeremy Grant, the defensive utility of Jalen Wells, and the high offensive ceiling of fan-favorite G.G. Jackson.
This makes the Grizzlies unstoppable.
Now, if you thought they had some drama at point guard, their forward positions need to be seriously addressed.
Now, with the addition of Jeremy Grant, he's looking like the starting three, at least for right now.
But fans no doubt have a narrative of their own about fans' favorite, G.G. Jackson.
Where does he look? Where does he go?
We'll answer those questions in just a moment.
But what's going on everybody? It's your dad, Phil, for another episode of Grizzlies Back.
We'll bring you the latest news and updates on everything Grizzlies related.
Of course, we're now getting into mid-August.
Certain dead period here, but hey, we're keeping content fresh.
We're still going.

Really, I cannot speak today.
It really helps out the channel a lot to educate that.
So going into an article from...
Talk about Jeremy Grant.
Okay, so this reminds me.
Now, he's an established forward who has...
You can call him a venture in this league.
He's been in the league for 10 years now.
Coming off a pretty good shooting season at around mid-40s.
There was one season a couple of years ago where he did average around, I want to say, 37-ish, 38% in the field.
But he's still a valuable asset that I think is a threat mostly in the paint.
Mostly as a two-point scorer, but if you give him the ball and he's open from the corner, he can knock it down.
But I think because of his veteranship, whatever you want to call it, or season,
I do think he has the edge right now to take that starting small forward role.
But this is what I was already at.
Those of you who have a decision, you have a decision to make.
No matter which way you put it, Jalen Wells was starting.
Now, with all the other additions, Gamboozer, Grant, he's going to get moved to the bench.
And that's just kind of what has to happen now.
I don't think he is really someone who you can say who's like a true number one option on this team, Jalen Wells.
But he's been getting better.
But he's one of those guys where you don't mind.
You have to kind of pull aside and insert someone else in the lineup.
And that's just constructing a roster to make it that much better.
If you're Zach Lyman getting Jeremy Grant, and that was in the John Morant trade, so I still consider it.
It has its moments where you like it, where you don't like it.
But I think in the end of the day, no, you had to get rid of John Morant.
You had to get rid of him.
You got Jeremy Grant in return.
He didn't have to lose really much, in my opinion.
And now Portland's got their own logjam to deal with.
David Holliday, David Lillard, Morant, Henderson.
So they have their own problems.
But we have a good problem here.
So this is Atlas McCarty continuing on Jeremy Grant.
If the Grizzlies get him from this past season, it makes plenty of sense to start him.
However, if they get the Jeremy Grant of the 24-25 season, shooting at 45.3%,
the Grizzlies face a serious question of who to start at small forward.
Jalen Wells remains one of the Grizzlies' most valuable defenders.
And it's a solid, connective piece on offense.
Great offensive pieces, and you just move one guy to the bench.
That's probably the best case scenario that you have.
But then you look at who else you have.
Who else do you have besides Wells and Jeremy Grant?
Because there's one fan favorite who the Grizzlies have admired for the past couple seasons.
They want him to get more involved.
They don't want to see him at third string anymore.
They want to see him heavily involved on offense.
And that is the young G.G. Jackson.
So that is McCarty at G.G. Jackson.
The second is also another player that can be in the mix at the small forward spot
thanks to his high-level finishing ability and overall growth as a scorer.
Jeremy Grant provides plenty of value as a spot-up shooter.
At his best, but has shown struggle since an ISO score.
That's honestly the first time I've heard the word ISO
since, I don't know, playing ball at the Recreation Center.
But yeah, either way, it was obvious McCarty is definitely right here.
You have a guy called G.G. Jackson who
he has the ability to just go out and take it.
He's still a young guy. I don't want to put a whole bunch of pressure on him just yet.
But he's someone who can easily, with his raw athleticism and skill set,
he can easily become an offensive weapon, an offensive monster.
I think fans have really been waiting for that.
But you just haven't, it's not like you haven't seen enough out of him
to be able to think that he can unleash himself.
Because Jeremy Grant is more of like a safe selection
because he's been in this league a long time.
Well, hopefully he can still shoot the ball as good as he did last year.
If he shoots the ball like 37% in that 24-25 season,
then does that small forward spot up for Gratz?
Who knows?
This is another quote from Thomas McCarty's article.
If Grant's efficiency is a struggle, it wouldn't come as a surprise
if Wells or Jackson, second, took over in the starting lineup.
Plus, there is some logic to having Jeremy Grant be a lead scoring option for the second unit.
Yeah, I mean, I don't think the Grizzlies could go wrong here.
Again, this is a great problem.
Guy Pippen Jr. vs. Ty Jerome in training camp, that is a great problem to have.
You have two point guards who have skills on different ends of the spectrum,
but it still works.
And then you have three small forwards here, Jalen Wells, Gigi Jackson.
It's weird to say how there's some of the more tenured Grizzlies here.
And then Jeremy Grant who comes in as the veteran.
Been there, done that.
Been to plenty of key games, key playoff games.
A lot of playoff experience.
But you have something here that's the safe bet, that's Jeremy Grant.
But he struggles with an ISO scoring or shooting.
Again, I think his main skill set or main dominant skill set is driving inside,
using his body, going up and laying it home.
But if he's not doing that or not shooting the ball well, efficiently from the corner,
from downtown, then he is possibly going to get moved.
And Grizzlies fans, they don't mind that.
I mean, I don't want to speak for all of them, but I really don't think they mind,
especially watching Gigi Jackson.
I think he is by far the fan favorite out of all these three,
and they really want to see him explode.
And that's going to be for my last segment here.
I'm going to go over one comment that one fan said.
We're going to try and make this as community-friendly as possible.
But this is from the last video.
Thank you to GrizzliesBlazer12 from the last video we've had before this one.
I think Gigi Jackson has the potential to become a superstar to me.
Kind of reminds me of a LeBron type.
And I understand what MrBlazer12 is saying here.
By the way, thank you so much for the comment.
We want to do more of that just to be more engaged, maybe get you all awake,
maybe get me awake, you know, even during some of these dead period videos.
But I appreciate the comment.
But yes, I understand what he's saying.
He's not saying he's going to be LeBron.
He's just saying that he has the raw athleticism and body type, archetype, like LeBron James.
If he wanted to dominate offensively, it's right there for him.
It's right there.
So, I think the Grizzlies are in a great spot.
This position, this fall forward position, this is a great rotation.
It does make them unstoppable.
It really does.
And I have full responsibility, I have full faith in that Tim Monticello is going to make the right calls.
He's going to make the right substitutions.
And I still think Jeremy Grant has the edge, but if he struggles a bit,
and for a while, for a long period of time,
there are going to be questions about what they do at small forward going forward.
That's going to do it for this video.
Thank you so much for watching.
