and so much more. You're not going to miss this episode of Winnipeg Jets Digest. Before we dive

completely free to do so. And we got a big one today as a lot of recently we've been talking
a lot about Conor Hellbuck and where he's going to be traded to, what the situation is going to
look like. But today we're talking about Mark Scheifele being traded as an insider has linked
him to the Montreal Canadians. When I seen this today, I was like, there's no way this happens,
right? But it kind of makes sense. And we're going to make it all make sense towards the end of this
video. So stay tuned for that. Let's just dive right into this report. So today, like I said,
Nick Kiprios, NHL insider said the Canadians are among the teams asking about Mark Scheifele
after failing to get Dylan Larkin. They have their eye on him as the perfect one-two punch
to support the top flight center, Nick Suzuki. And yes, I think this is a great trade for the
Montreal Canadians to do and something that they will need to do to win a Stanley Cup. So I think
it's great that they're doing this, but for us, I don't think it's great at all. I think losing
100-point player last year in Mark Scheifele, who hadn't 100 points in a year where,
you know, let's just put it blatantly, we had a really bad year. Like, we were pretty terrible
last year. And, you know, he had a great season out of that. He was the bright spot out of that.
And Mark Scheifele is kind of the heart and soul of this team, in my opinion. And he's always been
that. And he's a player who's like 34, almost 34, I believe, at this point. And, you know,
leaving the Winnipeg Jets organization, I think would leave a sour taste in the mouth
of a lot of fans, because he's been here through it all. He's been trying to bring a Stanley Cup
to Winnipeg. And two seasons ago was probably our best chance at it. Let's be real, because
right now, Connor Hellbach is requesting a trade. He's suspended from the team. And it's all up in
the air right now. We need something to happen to give us a little bit of hope and give us a little
bit of faith in Scheifele's day off and that he can, you know, kind of make something good out
of a bad situation. But right now we're hearing talks on Hellbach. And now we're hearing talks
about our star center being traded as well. It's definitely a very unsettling time for Jets fans.
And I feel for all you guys, because we're going through it all together. And it really sucks that
this is happening at this point. But Eric Engels did also have a little take on this and what the
Canadians would want to give up in terms of getting Mark Scheifele. So I'll just bring it up a little
bit bigger so you guys can read it. He said, I would say this. I don't think the Canadians are
throwing prospect or a prospect into a deal for soon to be 34 year old. He's got five years left
on his deal. A great deal as well. $8.5 million, $8.5 million. And he don't, he don't think that
washes with anything they've been trying to do in terms of how careful they are about bringing
into another centerman here or another player to compliment their top six. That would be age
appropriate to fit the core. And basically what he's saying here is the Montreal Canadians don't
want to have to give up, you know, all their prospects in like Fowler and, and, and the Hage
and Sharofsky and all, and Reimbach or all these guys that they drafted and are soon to be at NHL
ready. And, you know, they don't want to give this up to just bring in, you know, an aging player in
Mark Scheifele. But I think that kind of works in the favor of us. If a trade did have to happen,
because right now Shovel Day off doesn't want prospects. He wants to bring in people to fill
the holes and try to make a go at it and try to win a Stanley cup here in Winnipeg, which I
definitely think is the right choice. But if you're trading Mark Scheifele away, you're not really
trying to win a, win a trophy here in Winnipeg, in my opinion, he's the heart and soul of this
franchise. He's almost a franchise leader now in points after, you know, it kind of converged
yesterday. So he's probably going to be trying to get that for his goal. And obviously he needs
to wave his no move clause to leave this team. And I think Scheifele just loves the city of
Winnipeg and has so much love for the fans. I don't think he would wave this at all, but it
is definitely very interesting to talk about what a trade would look like for Scheifele. And I think
we know we're going to talk about it in just a bit. And I know spoiler alert, I don't think it's,
it's worth giving up this player for what we're going to get in return. So let's look at trade
option number one here as I kind of spoiled it a little bit. Canadiens receive Mark Scheifele,
the Jets receive Oliver Kapanen, Kirby Dock, Sam Montebello, and a first overall pick. Yeah,
you're getting three players for one here, which is great. And just looking at what the team would
look like here, it would look like Vigo Bjork taking this first line center role, which I
really think he can do. I think obviously he's coming into the league after playing with, you
know, quote unquote men, as people love to say over in the Swedish league and in the world
championship. And he's looked like he hasn't lost to edge anywhere and coming into the NHL. I think
he could be a top line center. It would be a big adjustment for him early on, but I definitely
think he would adjust to it very quickly. And then we have Oliver Kapanen with Kirby Dock with
Valerity on this second line. I do think this would be a solid line. I like Oliver Kapanen.
I'm a big fan of his game. I think he's one of my favorite players that the Montreal Canadiens do
have. He's just a very fast center who can really score goals off the rush, has a tremendous shot.
And I think having him with the 30 goal score and Valerity would just be magic here in Winnipeg,
but you're not replacing the production Shifley is bringing you in the forward with Kapanen
and Dock. You know, if a Dock has a stellar season, then you probably are, but you know,
it's definitely a risk to take for Sheldon Day off to make this trade happen. But, you know,
playing devil's advocate, he would get a first round pick in this deal that he would be able
to flip to bring in somebody else to fill this hole here and maybe try to get younger, right?
Like try to bring in an established center that's like 25 or 27, right? Like, I think I would like
to see that if we ever do trade Shifley is to see a younger center kind of brought back in who can
play, you know, second line, potentially have a first line upside as well. And then obviously we
see Sam Montembeau playing the tandem with Stuart Skinner with Halibut still suspended. Montembeau is
a player who's looking for a shot to show everybody that he can still be a great NHL goaltender. Same
like Stuart Skinner. He came on to preseason games, showed fans what he's made of and the fans now
love him. And I think Montembeau still has a lot to give in his, you know, in the cannon. And I think
that getting a fresh start would be great for him. And that tandem will be, will be very, very solid
for us going into this season. But let's look at trade option number two here, as I did want to
throw a prospect one out there. I have Michael Hage, Kapanen, and Montembeau in a second for
Mark Shifley here. I think Kapanen has to be a part of this deal. I think he's a player with so
much upside and giving him more minutes here on this team, I would really allow him to maybe have
a little bit of a breakout here in Winnipeg. You're obviously getting Michael Hage. He's not going to
play this season because he is going back to college, but he's a player that for the future
of this organization would be Vigo, Bjork 1, and Michael Hage 2. And he's a great all-around center.
A kind of a, you know, Suzuki-esque type of center. So I think he would be great for the future of this
team. But for the now, it doesn't really make sense. And Sam Montembeau again in a second.
Looking at the lineup, it doesn't really change too much as we just see Kapanen
slide up on this second line with Rosen and Valerdi. Like I said about Kapanen in the first
situation, he's a fast guy. He can really work with plays well off the rush. And I think having him
with Valerdi would just be money. And these guys would really have some great chemistry together.
Obviously, Montembeau would be the backup here. And now we see Michael Hage in the fifth slot for
the center. He won't be playing this year. But, you know, next year he would really come in and be a
great rookie for us next season. But the question that I have to propose to all you guys watching
and all of Jets Nation is, I'm going to put it on the screen right now, is will Kevin Sheveldayoff
blow it all up? Like, and you know what I mean by that. Will he just, you know, blow the entire
situation up and just trade Scheifele, trade Hellebuck, potentially trade Kyle Conner and go
full rebuild mode? Will that, will this happen? You know, it kind of seems like that's what's
the way we're going right now is, you know, yeah, Hellebuck wants out. All right, we got to, you
know, we can't get a trade for him. You know, Scheifele, if you trade Scheifele here, I mean,
what message are you relaying to Kyle Conner that you're, you know, obviously Conner just
resigned here. You know, you promised him that they're, you know, they're still going to try to
win here. And now you're blowing it all up with Scheifele being gone and Montenbo being gone.
It makes absolutely no sense for him to do this. And I'm really against this trade for Winnipeg
Jets fans, for Montreal Canadiens fans. Yeah, like that's awesome. Getting Mark Scheifele is great.
But for us, that really puts us, sets us back so much. Trading a player who's given so much
to this organization, so much to this city, it would just be such a devastating loss for
Winnipeg Jets fans to see this happen. And if a trade like this does happen, you best believe we
are going into the stages of a rebuild. They might call it a retool, but I don't know. Like, with
losing Scheifele to me, it kind of seems like you're going to be out of that window of winning.
But Scheifele, like I said, is 34. And how many hundred point season does he have left in the
We don't know. It's uncertain. But you can't trade a hundred point player who just had a
hundred points because, you know, that just wouldn't be right. Like, if you're trying to
still win, if you're still trying to compete, you can't trade a hundred point player for, you know,
three players that kind of fill a hole for you. So for me, I'm against this 100%. I don't think
Scheifele should blow it up. I still think they do have a shot here in Winnipeg. Scheifele just
needs to really just think. He just needs to think. He's had all summer to think. He's had
all summer to trade Montebow, and he hasn't done nothing. It's very, very upsetting. And I really
do hope that we do see something for Hellebuck very soon and the trade come through. Because
if we had to make a trade earlier in this offseason, we'd be talking about, oh, we're
getting fired up for the season. We got these new players that we can't wait to see. We see,
you know, that's the way we'd be talking right now. Like, we can still do it. But right now,
Montebow's sitting at home eating bags of chips and, you know, getting paid nothing when we could
have traded him months ago. So that's my little rant here today. It just really upsets me with
how everything's been handled here, if you guys can't tell. I'd love to hear how you guys are
handling it yourselves. What are you guys' thoughts in this situation? Do you think he's
going to blow it up? Let me know down in the comments section, because I know this trade
