This is a MASSIVE Development for the Cowboys... Major Cowboys Updates | Cowboys News

This has massive implications for the Dallas Cowboys as with a one and two start now looking
at a potential one and three start as they head to Houston we look to the ways they can avoid that
even with a injured Texans team getting healthy at the right time and an injured Cowboys team
seemingly getting worse by the second. Welcome to Cowboys Digest everybody I'm Jace Andrews and
today got a special guest our host of our Houston's Digest channel Isaac Estrada. I appreciate you
Isaac for joining us here today and getting us a little bit more insight on the Texans but
obviously we'll get into general thoughts here in a moment but I feel like this is kind of an
interesting game knowing the way that the Cowboys injuries have gone now the healthiness of kind of
the Texans getting back in a good spot and well we all know what the Cowboys are known for one
and two now it just seems like the oh and three team would beat them especially in an in-state
rivalry. Yeah absolutely I think kind of like you hit it on the head Jace the Dallas Cowboys are
starting to falter at the perfect time for the Houston Texans we'll have to do it a little bit
later but I'm sure all Cowboys fans know at this point that defense is very beat up that
defense has been through what seems like hell and back in terms of injury and the Houston Texans at
the perfect time are starting to become healthy starting to get back on track there's a few
updates that we have to dive into it today and Jace and I'm so excited to do that. Well let's
start first with the Cowboys news and the big things that have come out today from John Machado
lots of different updates that we've gotten the first is that safety Jalen Thompson will likely
go on injured reserve that was something we kind of knew that was something that was pretty much
expected at this point PJ Locke also placed on injured reserve last week so that's two safeties
now that you're out without Jonathan Bullard who was hurt in this past week's game versus the Ravens
he will probably be out for a few weeks as well Siobhan Rebel we saw that he avoided major injury
but we don't exactly know if he's going to be ruled out for this Sunday yet Willie Cooker is
doing well but we don't know if he's able to return then you still have Kobe Durant who
probably is not going to return to play a Sunday and of course tomorrow I was shown who finally
looks like he could be back to form still waiting for the left guard Tyler Smith as he cannot come
back until week five against the Buccaneers but definitely progressing well but the list of
injuries is long for the Dallas Cowboys and it really does in my mind put the Texans in a pretty
big disadvantage a pretty big advantage should I say with especially and they're you know they're
in a lot of ways the way that they are going to play in their their their newer they're not
new receiver but they're Nico Collins coming back I should say right yeah absolutely and I think you
kind of hit oh I was gonna say you hit it on the head Nico Collins coming back at the perfect time
I think I was kind of looking at the Dallas Cowboys injury report for this week and it was
it was very much almost look like everyone was beaten up you had kind of told me before we
started like Isaac we don't even have a defense going right now in terms of healthiness so
I think at the perfect time it's starting to work out for the Houston Texans but as a team that's
been oh and three and as you know a team that offensively has not been able to get going in
the past two weeks that's still going to be something that we hit I talked about it on
Texan's Digest a little bit but you know Nico Collins is not going to solve all of our problems
we're not going to go from scoring six points or ten points a game to all of a sudden scoring 35
again so that's what I think is going to be the most interesting part about this game well there's
a lot of injuries that I want to get to and kind of you know start kind of looking at that before
we get into kind of the keys to the game but kind of talk us through here obviously you've got Nico
Collins coming back but then Ed Ingram seems like he's going to be back as well and then some
updates looks like Jadavion Clowney is not going to play this game and then any updates on Aziz
Alshayer who got injured last week yeah absolutely so I've already talked about enough Nico Collins
we're excited to have him back that offensive line however has been one of the worst in the
NFL we know last season they were absolutely terrible as well this season you know we
obviously upgraded it a little bit obviously you'd love to see Ed Ingram coming back because
that offensive line has struggled I had talked to you about it on my show but David Montgomery and
Woody Marks have had a rough season so far running the ball have not been able to do much and it's
because that offensive line has been just not very good at all so seeing Ed Ingram come back
seeing a leader on this offensive line come back that's going to be amazing Jadavion Clowney
obviously dealing with some knee injuries something I have talked about a lot is Jadavion Clowney's
been doing this for 12 years now you know he's up there in age he's starting to do it it's getting
to the point where you know it's just it's not so much as you know a terrible injury but just you
know let the old man have a little bit of rest before he comes back stronger than ever I think
is what we're looking at with him Aziz Alshayer you obviously hate to see that a defense that
really needs to step up is going to lose him uh correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it was a
growing injury that he's suffering right now so obviously you hate to see that but the good news
about those kind of injuries is you would expect them to be back sooner rather than later so hoping
to see him back soon yeah and we'll find out today with our first injury reports but with all
the injuries in mind do you want to take a couple look at some keys to the game early on here and
the first for the Cowboys is definitely going to be slowing down the pass rush that the Texans have
I mean obviously you've got to look towards Will Anderson first but it's no scrubbing Daniel Hunter
as well who's been performing to a really top tier level I mean you think about what he's done this
season three games seven tackles but the one and a half stack stacks stand out and that goes
alongside Will Anderson right now looks like he's poised to go out there and win defensive player
of the year uh four sacks already on the season through just three games is just insane not to
mention a forced fumble he got the big contract and he just seemed like he got better what do you
feel as though I mean the Cowboys offensive line is really solid but you know Dak Prescott he's
got to stay healthy he's got to have time in the pocket to throw to his receivers um what what's
kind of the intel on how you know how good this defensive line is actually being you know even
Cowboys fans know a lot about given what we saw with him from last year
yeah absolutely so you kind of hit the nail on the head Will Anderson jr absolutely a phenomenal
year that's something that a lot of Texans fans are saying is like hey we're 0-3 but Will Anderson
jr is probably going to win defensive player of the year we're going right now so that's obviously
something to hit your high hat on I think we saw it a lot with Joe Burrow two weeks ago obviously
this past week he was phenomenal as well but Joe Burrow there was multiple times we've been seeing
it since Will Anderson's rookie year where even if he's not getting a sack on the plate that
constant pressure is having quarterbacks fear for their lives we saw with Joe Burrow in week
two against the Bengals we saw it against Indianapolis at the same thing and something
I love about that is it opens up that pressure for Daniil Hunter to make a play as well Daniil
Hunter great defensive lineman he's been great uh I think Micah Parson said it last season but he's
one of the most underrated defensive ends in the NFL of all time so I think having Will Anderson
jr go straight ahead at a quarterback and taking that pressure off of Daniil Hunter coming off the
it's a perfect duo it's a perfect duo Jason I would love to see more of it I think Dak Prescott
is a great quarterback when it comes to being able to evade those but when there's two separate guys
coming at you from both angles that's where I think it's going to get very interesting yeah
it's definitely going to be tough and the defensive line obviously it's just one part of it but
you also got to think on the offensive side for the Texans and what the Cowboys can do to
try and negate the offense from getting going against them and that's for CJ Shroud to make
mistakes I mean he has been a guy who has actually you know I'm not going to say he's been the reason
they've lost this these three games in general at all I think he's actually been relatively solid
in fact you go look at the statistics and he's playing pretty well obviously looking at you know
a lot better statistic than what those are but he is feeling like more of a I guess mature version
I think is the best thing he declined the money to try and you know put himself in a good spot and
he's a big turnover guy but yes this year he doesn't have a turnover yet like that's something
that's this kind of big thing on him and that in his career he's got 31 interceptions and nine
that's literally almost every game he has a turnover 0.72 turnovers per game and he hasn't
had one so it feels like the Cowboys defense for as bad as it's been for as banged up as it is
if they're able to go out there and potentially force a turnover on CJ Shroud that that feels
like it flips the game yeah absolutely and something that CJ Shroud we've talked about
it a lot on Texans Digest we think something that's holding this offense back is not CJ
Shroud as much but the offensive coordinator Nick Caley there's been multiple times where
you see CJ Shroud stretching out the field and the plays just are not drawn up to help him succeed
he's dropping it off to the backup tight end in Foster Monroe that's something that our head
coach Mika Ryan's had talked about it a lot this week that we are going to open that playbook a lot
more for CJ Shroud that's where he succeeded and when you look at the 0.72 turnovers per game
obviously CJ Shroud he has a higher turnover rate but he's always thrived more when you open up that
playbook so obviously he's bound to make some mistakes obviously you love to see not a single
interception this year when it comes to those fumbles it's been a little rough obviously week
against the Buffalo Bills here that costly fumble in the first quarter and then in the fourth quarter
game on the line CJ Shroud pumped the ball again I was one of the ones saying you know that's not
if the offensive line doesn't do much you know what do you expect out of the guy but
that's something that we kind of got to strengthen up on a little bit is the fumbles but in terms of
just not being a turnover machine you love to see that as CJ Shroud but it has to equate to points
you know he cannot be a turnover machine he can have the perfect 20 pass 20 pass attempts for 20
completions but you know if we're not getting points on the board like we've seen the past
two weeks it's you know what does it really mean Jason well that's kind of thing about the Cowboys
is the points on the board have been something that have well been tough to get and that's where
the third key to the game comes out of get the running game going it has been a struggle bus
for Gervonta Williams here early we saw a little bit of flash last week versus the Ravens
felt like it finally kind of ticked up a little bit but still 169 yards on 43 carries just a 3.9
average for him not exactly what you want to see he looks better last week he still has two
touchdowns but when you think about the defensive line that it's going to be poised to you know
really attack the run game of the Cowboys and on top of which you have Gervonta struggling it
really doesn't look like it's a great time for that to be in a good spot especially for you know
what the Cowboys team is looking for in you know I think that offensive spark in some ways even
as good as the offense have been but just trying to get something going maybe even in just a team
yeah absolutely and that's something that our run game has struggled with as well our two running
backs have not been very good in David Montgomery and Woody Marks so that's going to be interesting
to see how both teams approach the running game kind of like you had said about Gervonta Williams
something we had talked about is your offensive line has been doing the work but Gervonta Williams
has not been putting up the numbers to do that it's going to be very interesting to see how both
of these teams respond in terms of the run games just not being the strongest in the world it's
going to be easy to see if both of these teams try to go into a shootout like we saw in week
one with the Houston Texans and the Buffalo Bills or if they just rely on their guys and keep running
the rock yeah I would not be surprised if this turns to a shootout I think that it's you know
a very potential option especially given how the defense of the Cowboys is looking and how good the
offense of the Cowboys is looking the big thing that I don't like is in a shootout you've got to
like keep scoring keep scoring I believe if it's short at the the C-District probably go and keep
scoring I don't know if the Texans defense is going to allow for us to keep scoring consistently
so that being said get a little early prediction going here obviously got a couple days before the
game got our first injury report today but still wanted to pop up our injury or rather score
predictions for the game Isaac's got the Texans winning this one at 24 20 I've got the Cowboys
winning this one at 31 30 to 21 you get in the comments you predict your score but I guess for
the last moment here Isaac why do you why do you feel like the Texans are going to win this game
yeah absolutely kind of like you had said we had talked about that Nico Collins is coming back we
got Ed Ingram coming back as well two of our biggest struggles have been being able to get
that pass going and also the offensive line struggling and I don't think Ed Ingram and
Nico Collins are going to solve all of our problems I'm not going to sit here and say oh yeah you know
what this means 35 point offensive performance by the Houston Texans I understand that but
at the same time judge we had kind of talked about it off the record yesterday to ourselves
you got to be a little bit delusional about your team sometimes you got to be a little bit
delusional and understand that you got to wish the best for him so that's what I'm hoping with
the Houston Texans I do think this offense is going to be a much better this game Nico Collins
has always been CJ Shroud's favorite target I think that defense is going to do great that's
why I said Texans defense is going to hold the Dallas Cowboys offense to 20 points it's because
obviously some guys like Reed Blankenship are still picking up the playbook but I think it's
going to be a great defensive performance by the Houston Texans yeah the Buffalo Bills defense
definitely better than the Cowboys but that's why I think I have them winning 30 to 21 because
that's like probably closest comparable to the Cowboys that the Texans have played up until this
point is the Bills just with the offense is going which it's great to say the closest comparable is
the 3-0 team but I'm delusional what can I say we just talked about it so let us know your score
down in the comment section and if you're watching this and you're a Texans fan or you
want to go check out the Texans content go check out my boy Isaac on Texans Digest and subscribe
there for now guys we appreciate you watching and we'll see you next time guys peace out
