Today is August 25th, the Yankees have 32 games remaining.
Let's take a look at those games.
The big picture, the playoff scenarios, and all that jazz.
Chisholm Jr.
Recaps galore.
These two fine dudes.
Hello and welcome to Talkin' Yanks.
Thank you very much for joining us today.
My name is Jimmy.
His name is Jake, BBD in the Corner, Fanatic Sportsbook presenting, and
we've got 32 games left, the Rays have 31 games left, homestretch, off day
yesterday, and we're going to take a look, Jake.
Are we optimistic?
Are we pessimistic?
How are you?
James Davis, everyone tuning in.
Happy August 25th to you.
Uh, yeah, there's, there's a lot of Boston and Tampa conversations that we need to
have along with, uh, the New York Yankees.
So, uh, as we have basically a month, last game of the regular season, September
27th, uh, figuring out how, how important the division is.
Cause obviously it's an easy Yankees going away line of being like, yo, let's
get the division, which that should be the line, uh, and anything else that
pops up, what, what the three game set could look like, what a five gamer
could look like, uh, and as we do this thing, obviously a lot of eyes on this
week, uh, Houston and Boston, which it's still, Houston still hits a bigger
court with people than maybe it should.
Uh, but you know, Houston's a team that has a good chance to be in the AL post
season, uh, the Red Sox are going to be in the AL post season.
Uh, so it should be a fun, a fun tester week for the boys.
The Houston Astros are in first place in their division.
They just, uh, parted ways with their GM and they told their
manager, he's not returning.
You're now welcome to come back next year.
And they are first place in their division.
They are also under 500.
The American league is insane, balanced.
You want a positive word?
Oh, hopeful.
The American league is very hopeful.
How hopeful is that first place in your firing?
Yeah.
I mean, Houston's always kind of had a different thing going on down
there and their owner, uh, Jim crane likes to be involved.
I believe the, I believe the press announcement was the GM's out and I'll
be taking control of baseball ops now, which, you know, a lot
of owners wouldn't do that.
He's done that before.
Yeah.
He, he likes having his fingerprints on this and I, yeah, for me, it's a very.
I don't know the inner workings of the Houston Astros.
Uh, but for me, it's very interesting to be like, I don't know if you're a GM,
even if you wrote it out this season and Houston makes the playoffs, like on your
GM resume, you're like, I'm a GM that I'm, I made the post season.
Which that matters for like your career.
So the fact that there's a month out and however, again, a mutually parting of
ways is rarely a mutually parting of ways.
It's a Beatles quote.
That's a Beatles quote.
Um, not the Beatles.
You guys are familiar with those are the bugs, the bugs Jake talks to.
Those are my pets.
Um, that, yeah, it's a, it'll be interesting.
I mean, these are going to be Houston's first game since that happened.
Your Don's on an MVP run.
Uh, and yeah, I think there's going to be a lot more internal, internal looks
and hopefully we land on kind of how we actually view Boston and Tampa because
Boston has a ton of lefty pitchers, Tampa, we know they play raised ball with a
couple boppers at the top of the lineup.
Uh, they, yeah, hopefully we stumble into a couple conclusions, thoughts,
takeaways, takeaways.
Yeah.
Takeaways and no boon today, obviously.
Yes.
You haven't figured that out.
Uh, you just weren't listening close enough.
It's just, it's not really a fault of like who you are or your brain.
It's just, you just weren't paying close enough.
Now you're sounding like my Beatles.
They do talk ---- to you a lot.
You went to the Rodan gala.
Do you want to talk about it a little bit?
I did.
Uh, first it starts with the Rodan's, um, Ashley and Carlos, like, uh, them
devoting their time, uh, to this, uh, the willow fund, which is for, uh, people
struggling with fertility that, uh, you know, a couple of people gave speeches.
Uh, Kyle Bush's wife was there, which I didn't like fully put that together.
Um, and because they've done a ton of work with that.
And, uh, yeah, it was cool.
Got to talk with Carlos a little bit and he's just a dude, his, uh, his brother
in-laws gave me a lot of crap, uh, cause they had DM'd about, uh, they tune in
and they, they really wanted that Rodan, that like flower Rodan shirt.
We made a year or two ago and you didn't respond.
There was some allegations.
Um, don't, we don't need to follow up on that.
And then, uh, yeah, it was cool.
I mean, it was a Monday night and the guys have a game the next day.
So like one of Rodan's first shout outs was like, thanks.
We'll warn for being here.
He's like starting tomorrow, which a lot of starting pictures are.
Yes.
Um, and yeah, uh, got to talk with Lowe's a little bit.
Uh, his son's getting big into wiffle ball.
Is he?
He's like, yeah.
He's like, we've got, we got this barn we play in and, uh, Indiana.
I was like, well, I got, I got this barn we playing in Jersey city.
And he's like, yeah, we'll, we'll get there.
Um, and then, yeah, I, the, the players rightfully were seated on the other
side of the room and it's their, it's their Monday night there with, uh, their
wives and girlfriends that I wasn't overstepping, but a couple of guys, we
have good relationships with, um, you know, Spencer Jones, uh, it was good
talking for him for a little bit.
And dude, I, I was, you know, not to real too much cause this isn't, but he.
Uh, I was like, dude, how are you, how are you doing?
Not like getting heavy, heavy.
Yeah.
Although this was the end of the night, but he's like, he's like, man, I'm good.
Like I'm, I know the guys on the team now.
I'm contributing to the team now.
He's got to feel great.
And he's hanging out with Lombard who wears his face on his belt.
And this, this was also, I was like, I kind of did a head tilt and I was like,
wait, is this your first Yankee event?
And he kind of like had a little smile and like nodded, which is one of those
funny things that, you know, some of the old dogs that have been to a million
events, it's probably not hitting that same exciting court that was hitting
for like myself and Spencer Jones.
But that was cool to see.
Um, also of note, before we get to the final note, um, they, they shouted out
like their three biggest contributors this year, uh, the rodents to, to the
fund and they raised over a million dollars.
Like they're doing awesome stuff.
And the fact like, again, they don't have to do this, but they do.
Uh, so that's really cool of them.
Uh, the number two contributor to their fund this year, Paul Goldschmidt, which
that was kind of like Paul got on stage.
Uh, all the players started yelling speech.
He wasn't going to speak.
Uh, but it was just a reminder, like what a version of leadership looks like.
On the team of like, yeah, I'm, I, you know, he's, he's not the highest
on the payroll chart right now.
He'd, you know, would have been different version of Paul Goldschmidt
that he's, he sees the importance of what his teammate is doing and what
it means to the team, uh, to be there and contributing to a good cause.
So that was cool.
And then on the way out, who do I see with two phones in his hands?
Trying to get an Uber home and struggling a little bit to do it.
Uh, it was Garrett Cole, two Ubers, Eric Cole.
Okay.
So this was a picture that was, uh, sniped by a member of our
social media team that was there.
It's just romantic as all get out.
Look at the lighting.
Like you couldn't, you couldn't have that sun hitting the spot better.
And that is the queen Amy Cole there.
So God, God say hi to Amy.
Yeah.
Garrett was all jazzed up.
He's like Jake from talking yanks.
And you know, we got into it a little bit.
Um, he was excited to chat, uh, which was fun.
And then, uh, another highlight for me, uh, Amy, cause this is, I've, I've
noticed this cause you know, from building all of this, uh, if we post
something, a good Garrett Cole posts, Amy Cole's in there with an early like early
to it.
Yeah.
And that's kind of her lane.
There's not a lot of other, you don't see Amy Cole popping up a lot of other
places.
I was like, like Amy, I always love, you know, if we post something, something
about Gary, you're, you're in there with the like, and she goes,
if there's something nice said about Garrett, I like it.
And I was like, God damn it, Amy.
That's why she's the queen.
Uh, so yeah, Garrett, Garrett was a little giddy.
Uh, they, they did get an Uber home.
I believe that was the last I saw.
Um, but yeah, that was, that was a fun one cause we haven't mixed it up with
Garrett a lot and he's obviously, he's become such a level of entertainment for
us on the field and off the field.
And that picture alone entertained me all night.
You had a great night with that picture.
I wrote a fan fiction movie.
Yeah.
Um, but yeah, it's, uh, he's taller than me.
He is taller than me.
It is about him falling in love with you.
My movie, I know on his wedding night, it's a, it's a real movie.
You did nothing wrong.
No, I was just being me.
Yeah.
Taking a goodie bag home.
Yeah.
Nice way to crazy goodie bag.
Uh, and those that are really deep in talking Yanks culture are a social guy,
Kyle, you know, it's a nice goodie bag.
Like the rodents had a lot of people donated nice stuff like for that.
Kyle just looks in there.
He's there.
It's pulling stuff out.
And he goes, man, I don't have a lot of nice stuff.
And that was the end of statement.
Just looking at the nice stuff in my bag.
And he's like, I don't have nice.
That's like, all right, man, let's just don't, don't pet the animals.
Um, it was a good night.
It was a good night for a good cause.
So, uh, let's, let's share the math on the
situation, which is let's share the math on the situation.
Yeah.
And the playoff situation, right?
Cause, uh, you guys did some thinking and it seems like there's some inevitable
playoff match-ups that will happen barring crazy runs of, uh, hot streaks
and losing streaks or, and it, and you want to walk through this, you have a
visual for it or just, uh, if you forget, or this is your first year following
baseball or following the Yankees closely in a while, the winner of each three
divisions in the American league, they get, uh, automatically to not know the
top two, the top two, get a buy into the divisional series, which is a best of
five, the worst of the three division, uh, winners plus three wildcard teams,
which means just the next best three in all divisions combined.
Those four teams go to the wildcard series, which is a three game series
that the top seed hosts all three games.
Yes.
And it's one, two, three, three in a row.
There's no off days in between.
First to win two games.
Yes.
The Yankees were in this last year.
They tied with the Toronto blue Jays for the best record in the American league.
Both teams won 94 games, but the blue Jays had the season series.
Which meant the Yankees had to play in the wild card series against the red
socks and it went three games.
So they had to use three starting pitchers while the blue Jays got to rest,
which means the Yankees had to pitch their fourth pitcher game one against
the blue Jays and the blue Jays had their ace going and it just opened the
divisional series with a mismatch and kind of tired arms.
It's a, it's a big thing.
Uh, especially if the wild card goes three, it's pretty, uh, it sucks for
the pitching reasons that I just listed.
Yes.
It's, uh, we're still early into the new format.
I mean, there's, you know, we've done debates on, you know, what was the
wildcard putting teams at an advantage?
Because if you, and if you sneak out that first game and then you have like
your ace lined up, like there's, there's some math there, but last year the top
seeds did really well, Toronto and the Dodgers.
And yeah, I mean, you just, you want to be able to set up your team, how you
want to set up your team and the bigger thing for me, I, I liken it to if you
play fantasy sports, if you get that by you get that by you just take out the
element of anything and you're home.
And it's, it's been one of my things that hasn't been one of my more fun facts,
but like Jaron Duran makes a B plus diving catch last year and I think the
Yankees lose both games and that's it.
And we don't even go to Toronto.
Lowest quality of that percentage in the league of any qualified hitter right now.
He, uh, I think that scratches and fans would tell you that too.
And you say we're, you say we are early to this format.
I think we could be early.
We're also in the last year of it because I think at the CBA, at the
negotiations, they're going to change it in some way.
Okay.
Um, they usually do or at least going to ask that the playoffs
usually get changed every CBA.
So this is the fifth, maybe final year of this format.
Um, it looks like the Yankees are on a collision course to repeat.
Instead of Toronto, it's their neighbor to the south on turf instead of their
neighbor to the north on turf.
And they are hosting the Red Sox.
Now that's where it's lined up right now.
It would be Red Sox in the Bronx, which, I mean, that's fun for the rivalry
and we can build some of that, uh, atmosphere going on.
If the Yankees overtake the race and win the division, it would then be the
Rays and the Red Sox playing against each other and the Yankees waiting for the
winner.
So unlike 2024, when they got to go through the central, they will be playing.
It seems like the ALEs, like all the calculations kind of lean that way,
right?
It would like require a weird run or a team getting crazy hot.
And one of the three East teams having like a collapsing September really
change it as far as I can tell.
Yeah.
As we're, as we're doing takeaways, that's, that's the takeaway mentally
prepare for playing Tampa or Boston.
I, we don't know the format yet and I don't know where it's going to be yet,
but yes, as the seeding is played out because the top seed is going to get the
four or five game winner.
I mean, we are, you know, the Red Sox have a clear gap on the AOS and AL
central teams.
I mean, it's almost like an eight game lead.
And then Tampa for the one seed, uh, currently has a 10 game lead on the
Chicago White Sox who, um, you know, if the Yankees are to get hot and catch
that, like you would need the Yankees and the Rays to collapse that.
Yeah, it just, we're going at a 98% confidence interval.
That class killed me.
Probability and statistics.
I was so bad.
You know, you love baseball.
It's crazy.
I mean, it's not a direct correlation, but it was kind of BS.
We don't need to do that.
All right.
We're probably playing Boston or Tampa and it's just, is it three games?
Is it five games?
Is it at home or is it on the road?
Which significant factors?
It is summer.
Baseball is on, and that means you should be outside with some on the grill, not
run into the grocery store, trying to figure out if the meat you're grabbing is
actually any good.
That's where butcher box comes in.

Butcher box.
Those are, uh, they're not minor factors and it's why, uh, winning the division is
important and matters.
But we can do some math on the situation because you talk about teams being hot,
right?
Sure.
Beebs, I'll send you some screenshots if you want to share them with the folks
watching on the tube.
Uh, the Yankees or how much we, uh, talk about the June swoon and the, and the
summer of sadness that we always have to, uh, go through, they consistently have
been a hot September team.
Uh, they're the second one I just sent you in the last five seasons, their winning
percentages in September are as follows 55.6%.
So that means they went 15 and two in 2021, but then look 2022, 68%, 17 and eight
2023, 63%, 2024, 57.
That's probably their, uh, it's better than 2021, but still 15 and 11 last year,
they went 18 and seven and the rays don't have that.
I like that.
The rays and this, this matters.
Some matters, none like a lot of people poo-poo the Yankees schedule talk, but
it's been the same ******* rollercoaster.
We go, we go peak, peak, peak, peak, peak, peak, peak, like a slow, awesome
rollercoaster, uh, April, May.
And then we just like free fall with maybe some little bumps like thunder
road, like a wooden rollercoaster.
And then it climbs like back up the peak at the end.
That's the, the chart we can kind of, so I don't know if the rays are that
consistent, the Yankees it's in it's wild.
And I hope I'm not jinxing him.
I knock on all the wood, the rays.
Um, they're not as good last year.
The rays, uh, had a losing record in September the year before that they
had a losing record in September.
They had one good season in 2023.
Otherwise they're right around 50% of their games.
So maybe they can take their three and a half out.
They got four games against him.
What I don't like on the schedule for the Yankees, Jake, and there's a good chart.
If you want to bring that strength of schedule chart, because I think that's
fun for people to look at as well.
What I don't like about the Yankee schedule is there are a lot
of games in a stretch.
Now they have off days, but they have a double header, uh, this coming
weekend on Saturday against the Red Sox.
Cause of her rain makeup on the 29th.
And then they have a double header the last week of the season against the rays.
Now, great news that rays double header comes after an off day on Monday.
And I am going to go look at the schedule and I hope the rays don't
have an off day on that Monday.
Hopefully they have a double header on that Monday before.
Yeah, I, that's, I don't think that's dare to dream, dare to dream.
Uh, there was a lot there.
You're kind of schedule mogging.
Um, the thing to know, this raised team is a little different when you
go through their past five years, they have one really good season.
It is 2023 off day before they have an off day before it's fair.
Um, 2023, the one year they were good in September, that was their one
good team over the past five years.
That was their 99 win team, uh, which they're on pace for a
little under that right now.
Uh, so, uh, we'll see what goes on on the raise in there.
The Yankees, as you mentioned, the consistency is kind of shocking again.
The only, the only one that's almost an outlier and it's the best one
is 2023 when their season died.
Uh, the Braves ended them.
The Yankees called up some young guys.
We saw Austin Wells get his first chance and stuff like that, which was nice.
Um, and kept the Yankees above 500 baby.
Um, but yes, I, I think the Yankees and where they do deserve credit is normally
getting off to a hot start and finishing strong and I do think it's part of their
recipe.
I do also think it's just part of like, you know, we still get uptight about the
Yankees caring and not showing passion sometimes that yes, like I think to start
the season, they're geared up and jazzy and ready to go and like, yeah, let's win
some ball games.
Let's get off to a hot start the end of the year.
I mean, we literally saw them.
I think it was the first time they were like, oh, we're trying to catch the Jays.
Like we want it.
And they went and they balled out and they were winning a ton of games, but so
are the Blue Jays, uh, that they didn't catch them.
And I guess that's another one of my takeaways right now.
Uh, Tampa were three and six against them this year that we would need to four game
sweep them to get the tiebreaker, which so that three and a half game lead is
actually four and a half and it's go time.
I, the division does it's it's tough.
You're hoping the Rays really stink it up.
I'm not lost hope on it.
No, because I've seen runs.
I've seen baseball.
The strength of schedule is, is a little, there's a, there's a little wilder than I
thought.
And I grabbed it says the Yankees are 23rd easiest and the Rays are top five hardest.
They do have like both teams play the Padres.
Both teams play the Mets.
Both teams play the Astros.
Both teams play, uh, Boston.
Both teams play each other.
Yes.
The Yankees have Colorado on their schedule.
That's what I was going to say.
We're, we're starting to get to the small sample size part of the year that one good
team or one really bad team in either direction could throw that off pretty
significantly.
And I think that's, that's the rocks, but that's also three games we're looking at.
They're like, Hey, we're going to win three games.
So in a way that does, that does matter.
They've not done it before, but yeah.
Uh, so yeah, we had the Yankees play the angels and they don't play the angels.
We play the Rockies.
They don't play the Rockies.
We play the diamondbacks.
They don't play them.
We play Minnesota.
We play Baltimore.
They have the teams they play that we don't play is Philadelphia.
The athletics, the Tigers and the Rangers and the Braves.
So, I mean, the Braves and Phillies are good there.
Yeah.
The rest are kind of even for what we're playing.
So they got Philly's Braves.
We got Rockies angels.
That's the big switch schedule.
Um, they, another thing I was looking at Jake, just copium, hopium.
Okay.
I'm good.
I think the Rays road schedule is not great because their home
schedule is absolutely amazing.
I believe that to be true.
Um, Yanks also have more home games coming up.
I don't think Yanks are not good at home.
Does that factor in the strength of schedule?
It doesn't, right?
I don't think they take into all that stuff, but that's why I want to look at it.
The Rays are good at home.
Like, I think they're the best home team.
Can you pull that up?
Bees on the, it's like baseball reference, detailed standings
has all that stuff.
The Yankees are a good road team.
They're not a great home team this year.
Maybe they've righted that ship with this recent stretch.
I'm not positive.
Uh, the Rays home advantages has been crazy this year.
It's like one of the biggest home advantages, which hurts.
Uh, the Rays are the best AL team.
Uh, the Brewers are one, Rays two.
Uh, yeah.
Yankees at home, very middle of the pack.
Um, but yeah, with a couple of good home series, they could, they could climb up,
but they are the best AL road team.
So are the Red Sox.
Well, second best.
Yeah.
I remember IKF, all the distractions he was talking about.
Um, well, they only have two road trips remaining and the Yankees have two as
well.
Yankees do have a West coast trip and the Padres are hot.
Odds are hot.
Got to play good.
I mean, obviously we'll get closer, but can't really lose ground.
Like you, cause you said the tiebreaker is going to be tough and it's, so that
makes it four and a half games.
Like if it gets back to five and a half back to six and a half, you know, they,
they have to like the rest of this week, if you're schedule watching, I don't
need to gain games right now, but cannot lose games right now.
If you're still hunting the division.
No, we're like, we're saying like where we started, there's a month left, um,
that, you know, it's, it's a beautiful sport where anything can happen that,
Hey, a good, a good week in a bad week.
We could be looking at a one and a half game division and Vamo.
Let's go, let's get it.
I'm going to do an exercise with you after the break.

All right, Jake.
Yes.
Don't use your calculator brain at all.
All right, don't do it.
I'm going to give you a series.
We've done this before.
And you're going to tell me how many games the Yankees win.
And then I'm going to tell you what they're like.
Yeah, I like this exercise.
This comes from straight out of Mike and the Mad Dog.
This is a Mike Francis, a thing where he just like goes down the list
on like the NFL schedule.
That's a win. That's a loss.
Yeah, I got him. I got him.
Went in there. Went in there.
OK, four games coming up against Houston.
Now, they only have
if Schiller or the three games up against Schiller, the upcoming game
Schiller, Schlittler, Paul Warren to OK.
Boston comes to town.
I mean, if we're being honest, let me see who's pitching.
Sandoval, Bayo Suarez, give me two.
It's four games set for and there's a doubleheader on Saturday.
Let's go three. Let's be jazzy.
Who? OK, let's go.
All right. Then West Coast trip.
Right. Three against the Angels. Right.
Without an off day.
So they're they're going doubleheader Sunday, right?
Doubleheader Saturday, Saturday, day game Sunday,
flying and playing Monday night in Anaheim.
So that first game in Anaheim is a bit of a doozy.
But it is Schlittler.
Yeah. And he'll play fly ahead.
Yeah. But the bats.
So three games, all night games.
Let's say we take two out of three.
That'll be my. All right.
Trade and trade in that one from the Boston series.
You got to start winning games.
West Coast off day on Thursday and then three against the Padres
and off day after the Padres.
So you're looking at the kind of full bullpen for those three series.
If that factors into anything.
I mean, let's assume we have to lose a series.
Let's assume it's in San Diego to the Padres.
So we'll get one game, one game.
All right. Then the Colorado Rockies, they fly home on Monday off day.
Colorado Rockies three game set at the stadium.
You got to get three Mets come for the subway series.
Mets have kind of owned us
September 11th.
Little worried about judge should be judge.
And people are thinking judge returns for the series. Right.
Somewhere in there, Sarah, you're hoping he comes back.
It's a rocky game. And so he's ready for that. Yeah.
Let's go.
I'm going to combine them in the twins who are the series after.
And I'm going to say four wins.
So if the Mets win the series, you got to sweep the twins.
All right. So I'll just.
I'll just go two and two because I don't want to write down that.
We lose a series to the Mets at home. That's fine.
I know I understand what you're doing.
Yeah. Twins is in Minnesota, then a travel day
and then three in Arizona
with an off day after that and the doubleheader against the Rays looming.
Pencil one against the D-backs.
D-backs may still be fighting and eyeing the upcoming Tampa four gamer.
I can see them even like I can see getting their bullpen a little differently.
You know, I can see that 20th game
on September 20th against the D-backs being like
we're saving everyone for the Rays.
Those games, let's get out of Dodge. Yeah.
All right. So you got one there.
Yeah. And that makes me feel about the, you know, that Rockies Mets twins run.
That's that's a lot of wins there. Hopefully it is.
But I Tampa four games at the trap.
It's a trap. It's hard to imagine them winning three, four games in the trap.
Can you Google last time?
Didn't they do that last earlier in this year?
Or was it last year? Devin blew it.
They were going to sweep him in the trap last year.
And Devin blew the last game play in the trap.
Oh, yeah, you're right. ****.
No, but I think the year I think 2024, they messed with the Rays in the trap.
But that was judging Soto.
This is the four gamer September 22nd to 24th.
And any four game series in the trap?
Have they ever?
Well, just the series we're talking about. Yes. Yeah.
That's the outcome. They are. It is home for that.
Oh, it is home. That's home.
So I can't get rain outs down there.
We got the best. I'm so sorry to everyone listening.
It's OK. But OK, four at home.
It makes me feel so much better, to be honest.
Like, yeah, three is way more in play now.
Let's go three. You you win both in the doubleheader.
You split the final. We're hopeful.
Yeah. All right. This is this is the hopeful.
All right. And then they close the series out against the Baltimore Orioles.
And it's Josh Hart bobblehead night that Friday.
Huge. And then CeCe Sabathia, CeCe Sabathia night on Saturday.
And it's frog week.
The stands are going to be filled with people wearing frogs.
That is true. It is frog week.
So I'll say I'll say two.
I'll say two. OK.
All right. You have them winning
twenty one of their remaining thirty two games.
So twenty one and eleven.
So that's pretty good.
I mean, that's the that's the win the division number.
Twenty one plus seventy four.
Everyone knows. Ninety five. Ninety five.
If they win ninety five,
the Rays can win 16 of their remaining thirty one.
That's us. And we still win the division.
It's us playing very good baseball.
The Rays play around 500. Yeah.
And I mean, last year's magic number was ninety four.
If we had ninety five, we win the division.
So it's the race for ninety five.
Always been the goal.
Ninety five race for ninety five.
Yankees in Tampa series history, they did win three out of four last year.
Wasn't in the top.
Then the last time they won three out of four or better was twenty eighteen.
And the time before that was 2007.
September of twenty eighteen.
OK. In September's.
Boone's also his record against Cora
and his record against the Red Sox in the second half of the season is very good.
Should we do should we do like a major league thing?
Maybe get a big print out of Booney and there's twenty one different things.
And if we take them off, we see him.
And see him hollow.
Maybe after every Yankees win, come in and peel a part of them off.
Yeah. OK. I'm in. You build it.
OK. Once you build that, we'll do it.
Sam's at the warehouse today. Yeah. OK.
Usually where things get built. Yeah.
And Jake mentioned Frog Week.
If you have a pet frog, be on the lookout to submit that frog
of yours or our at home frog of the year award.
A lot of submissions are flying in as soon as we make it official
and you're allowed to do it.
And you just send a picture of your frog and you tell us about it.
And your frog might win like frog of the year nationwide.
And if you don't have a frog, you can enter the imaginary frog
of the year contest, which you have to draw a picture of a frog
and tell us an artist.
Keep an eye out there last week in September.
We're going to have a lot of stuff going on.
Yeah. So if you're weak, it's Frog Week.
Yes. Frog Shark Week frogs.
I think there's a topic that we haven't really discussed
that I would be interested in your thoughts.
And I think other people would be OK at Yankee Stadium.
Who would you rather play the Rays or the Red Sox?
Or like, who would the Rays pitching be?
That's what I want. OK.
So Tamper, if they're lined up,
it's probably McClanahan Rasmussen.
And then they can either go Nick Martinez or Freddy Peralta turns it around.
And then the back end of their bullpen is Baker, who's been amazing this year.
Kevin Kelly has been very good.
I'd be interested in him in the postseason.
And then they've they got some Rays guys out there.
And then obviously for Boston, you have all those lefties.
But Sonny Gray has been their best pitcher.
And then they have chat.
They have. OK.
I think I think I found my answer.
I think you take your chance with the Rays.
Yeah, that's a lot of lefties in that bullpen.
There's a lot of lefties in that rotation.
They can ugly up the game so easily.
The Yankees are these platoon Yankees.
Yeah, but if Judge is back and you got Goldie is back in form.
I honestly don't know what side of the platoon I dislike more with Judge back.
Well, we had Judge like at the beginning of the year, we were liking the line.
Yeah, we like maybe that can come back.
Yeah, that was Goldie playing at a much higher level.
And that was Rosario being a threat that I I guess for me,
if we're seeing left handed pitching, we're putting a lot.
There's a lot on Judge either way to say that.
But then it goes Goldschmidt, Ramos, Rosario.
Lombard as our righties,
where if we're seeing right handed pitching, it's still Judge.
Rice and Garcia are different threats.
Yeah, it's true.
Trent, Cody, Jazz, like Wells.
I I don't know.
I think. Yeah, you're right.
I think the way the team.
If you look at the lineups, I think I'd rather face the Red Sox.
They've been hot lately.
Both are kind of I don't know.
Yeah, I mean, the Red Sox are it's a funky lineup to look at, man.
It's weird looking at the Rays pitching and not getting super concerned.
I'm saying it's odd, but I'm not getting that way.
I mean, I'll knock on wood.
I mean, the jinx nothing.
No, I kind of see what you're saying.
I mean, Rasmussen has kind of been their best guy
the past couple of years, and I think we had.
He shut us down once, but then they destroyed him.
Yeah, we've destroyed him.
And he's not a long for the game guy.
He's like you don't look out there.
Sonny Gray, as as much as
you know, Yankee fans have a different memory of him.
Sonny Gray goes out and does a big postseason game.
You're looking at six or seven innings and you're like, wow,
what a performance by Sonny Gray.
Even I mean, what's his name?
Totally like he's got that energy. Mm hmm.
And yeah, I say this in a respectful way to dress because he is very good,
but his postseason energy is more like he'll shut you down for five
and then you got to figure it out from there,
which, you know, over a five game set or three game set a little tougher.
That I think that's the thought process.
I think I think Rays might be it.
I think like Cam has less trouble with the Rays.
He did shut Boston down last year.
Can you do him again?
Artem is like, I don't know.
Like, that's can't just bank on it, but I like it.
But I mean, he's he's done really well against the
Rays before.
Yeah. Eight innings pitch, one run earlier this year.
I don't think they fouled ball in the death.
For their skill set, you would think maybe they do.
How is Boston scoring?
Everyone's hitting.
They're doing Brewers, Rays, Marlins.
Two, two hottest hitters are Nick Sogard and Mickey Gasper.
Yeah, I was looking at.
Do you think Mickey Gasper looks like me?
Bring it up. Trev was making fun of us.
He's rocking a Boston goatee right now that doesn't help either of our cases.
There's something similar, like we're just relatable guys
with schnauzers or what's going on?
Yeah. Smallish faces, noses.
I mean, there's something. He's got a small face.
Yeah. I also have a small face.
Put a mustache on me.
I don't have that.
We can figure it out, OK?
The Red Sox just are.
They're all hitting lately.
Like if you look at the last I did since August 1st,
and you look at the batting averages, they're all they're all hitting. Yeah.
I mean. I look like.
Yeah, you do.
I'll give you played.
I'll give you the top.
The top top six and plate appearances for the Red Sox.
Their batting averages since August 1st to eighty nine.
Very good. So 301 and 293 and 294.
No, 243 to 67.
That's our top six since August 1st.
Do you want to hear the. Let's hear it, Arch.
Yeah, let's get some comparison.
The Yankees top six batting averages since August 1st.
It's not top six batting average, sorry.
It's top six plate appearances.
The batting average of the six that have been starting to have been playing
the most. Ben Rice, 141.
Batting average.
Trent Grisham, 253.
Was that the lowest out of the top six Red Sox or close to one?
I think there's a 247. Yeah.
Spencer Jones, 229.
Jazz, 194.
Luis Garcia, 242.
Lombard, 288.
Hey, that's our sixth.
So like, that's how they've been winning.
Imagine if the Yankees had two guys over the course of a month
and the whole season hitting above 253.
They have no one. Crazy.
Can't have two hot haters at the same time.
It's not even about hot.
It's just about like being able to consistently like do something
if you're not doing something like if you're not slugging.
OK, do this now.
Now, the Rays is more of a mixed bag.
Their top six Yankees hitting 319.
Caminero's hitting 253.
Aranda, 273. That's good.
Chandler Simpson's hitting 407. Yeah.
Taylor Walls, 219.
Cedric Mullins, 218.
So, yeah, the Yanks offense need to pick up.
Hopefully there's signs of life. Got to.
Can't get worse. We're getting hot.
It can't get worse, man.
Can it? I don't think so.
Their judge would be huge.
That'd be nice. Huge.
Like we're talking about Jones' look lately.
Talking about Jazz might be coming around.
But are we are those thoughts stemming from like two games?
If I go last 10 days, do those guys look better?
I think. Yes.
Got yes. Guys that you can say are recently hot.
Jones, Trent. Last 10 days.
Trent, no. Spencer Jones, yes.
Jazz, yes.
Trent's last 10 are hot.
Last 10 days for Trent, 172 batting average, 379 slug.
Oh, well, I don't know.
He's just he's just tracking that ball, man.
Seeing it. Hmm.
Yeah. If you go, that's kind of crazy.
If you go back to August 9th, which again, that breaks it out.
But he's one dotting 300 batting average.
So it's just a slump in the middle there. Yeah.
We face in those tough games.
Playoff pitches. To say.
This last year is weird for him.
I mean, I didn't get any hits this last year.
All right. What else do we got?
I know what I've got.
Hope the Mariners don't make the playoffs and figure it out.
Oh, who would they knock off?
Houston. Texas.
I'm not worried about.
Got to beat the Ailes team. Yeah.
There'll be one more waiting if we do.
Yeah.
Man, so what's the other side of the bracket going to look like?
It's like we're saying this is destined to be this. Right.
Other side of the brackets.
White Sox and then
Western Central Hodgepodge are the Guardians going to get in as Texas
going to get in or like it could be more at least
like the Blue Jays or the Orioles are still around.
Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Uh, where's that website that just says playoff picture today?
Right. Isn't there a website that always updates that?
Yeah. OK, so somewhere today
it would be White Sox with a bye.
Waiting for Astros Guardians.
Crazy messed up playoff picture.
White Sox are above 500.
White Sox deserve a certain level of respect in this year's American League.
They've been playing good all year.
You know, it's not
what are the what's the Guardians record?
Are they above 500?
And the Astros are currently I don't know.
Guardians just got to 500.
And the Astros might have if they won yesterday.
They did. They didn't play.
So their game under 500. Correct.
So on the other side of the bracket, you're going to have all the Rangers
took first place at 500.
That's why they fired everyone.
That's a silly bracket.
Silly Willie. Hmm.
OK, roster stuff and get out of here.
Yeah. Let's do the roster game real quick, Jake.
Real quick. I told you I did it.
All right. Time to make our same game parlay picks for tonight's game.
Presented by Fanatic Sportsbook.
You can make your own same game parlay by picking multiple legs
from tonight's game and combine them in a one bet
or tail our picks right in the Fanatic Sportsbook.
You guys know what we got.
It's the Yanks one and a half.
We're we're going big.
It's time for the sticks to go and they will win.
That's why it's the over as well.
And I've got my guy Garcia Jr. driving in one run tonight.
I gets you. I think you're in the plus fives there.
So you can you can roll with that same game parlay at Fanatics.
Jim, you had a final score, right?
Nine to three. So work that in work that in
from the first pitch to the final out.
Come see why winning hits different at Fanatic Sportsbook.
I did it and I told you I really I couldn't figure it out.
So for for starters.
And do we have to clarify wildcard or let's do wildcard?
That's three games. Yeah, let's do wildcard.
It would be if we're in the wildcard that's against Boston,
that should affect some decisions.
Throw the four starters on there.
So Lerfried, Rodan, Cole.
Yep. Even though it's a three game set, you're going to bring Rodan
just in case someone gets sick and you're not going to use all,
you know, your all your relievers anyway.
And the other teases, the guys he's fighting with.
Rodan wins.
OK, now relievers put Bednar, Blackburn,
Hedrick, Hedrick, Cruz, Cruz
and Tim Hill will be on there.
And then it's that's just wait.
OK, the next conversation is Weathers Warren.
Yeah, but we don't Weathers.
I don't think Warren is healthy.
I guess it would be him.
Throw Warren on there.
I think Warren's going to be on.
Weathers could.
All right, then catcher.
There are two catchers on there.
Wells and Sanchez.
Yep. First base.
There are two or three first baseman.
The first baseman, Garcia, Rice, Golding,
Garcia, Junior, Rice, Junior, Golding, senior.
All right. Ben Rice's girlfriend gave a nice wave.
I didn't get to say hi to her, but I wish I wish I did more.
Second base throw jazz and put Caballero there, I guess.
Yeah, we can sign him to a different spot if you like.
Optically, it looks better now.
Lombard at short.
Third base throw McMahon and Rosario for now.
I mean, Rosario don't lock them, but just for now,
lock cabby, lock jazz, lock Goldie, lock Ali Sanchez.
All right. And then left field Bellinger,
centerfield Trent, right field judge.
Let's put let's put Jones
wherever you want to put him right field, I guess.
I don't think he's going to judge, but I just put him somewhere.
Aesthetically, I have him as the backup center fielder.
OK, now my next thing I would do
where we're at right now, as you can see on the top on YouTube,
we have 10 pitchers on the team.
We have 14 position players on the team, two total spots to work with.
Ramos is on.
Yeah, I would throw Ramos in right field or outfield,
and I would throw Schumann out of all the remainders
just because he can do it.
He's the the Tyler Wade.
Yeah, whatever.
I think they'd put one more pitcher before Schumann.
Well, we have room for more pitchers now.
No. Oh, that's where we're at.
This second is a 26 man roster with Schumann.
Yeah, I think I agree.
Shoes off.
And then I think it would either be Weathers if he's healthy,
if he's not.
I think Schmidt is who I would choose.
Clark. Oh, yeah.
Clark or Gary.
I think they're building Clark up for this role.
Clark, the way they've talked about him,
it does seem like they're relying on him.
But I also don't think Ramos and Rosario
that they're not a lock that both of those guys are on there
because they both don't play the field well enough
to stay in the field after pinch hitting. Right.
And that's a lot of guys to have as like a bench, not field.
But if we're playing the wild card, who are we playing against?
Probably the Red Sox at home.
It's Boston. Yeah, they're lefties.
It's all lefties. Yeah.
That I think they would both be on it
and probably in impact spots.
And I think that's the I guess that's the a little bit of the Boston fear
is that Rosario has been in a tough place for a little bit.
Ramos has been a tough place since he's been here.
And you're looking at kind of the heart of our lineup
if we were playing a Boston three game playoff.
Do they have enough pinch runners?
Caballero, if he's not starting Jones, if he's not starting.
Yeah, those would be the two.
Part of me really wants to get the Mingus or Schumann in there
just to run for someone because there's so many.
Just Ramos and Rosario just don't offer the other things.
Neither do Goldie.
Those are all your right handed pinch hitters.
And then Goldie can stay in the game, depending on who he's going in for.
But like we've seen a lot where like Goldie gets pinch hit,
they walk them and then they pinch run for him right away.
And, you know, I guess it'd be Caballero if he's not starting.
We don't have McMahon on this.
And we know we do. We do. We do. OK.
Yeah, I see what you're saying.
And I can with all the lefties like injuries would have to get involved here.
But well, yeah, if they're playing Boston and it's all those lefty pitchers
and lefty relievers, I think you're correct.
It's just it seems it's a bunch of pinch hitters.
It feels a lot different.
It feels, you know, you don't want to prep yourself for, you know,
that tough final episode of the year.
But if there's if there's a way to go down, you want to go.
Feeling like you got your best guys out there going down, down
in an earlier round, Garcia Jr.
on the bench is Ben Rice on the bench.
Probably not. No.
What was that? Me.
My name's John Boyd.
I don't know what that was.
OK, we'll do that exercise again in a week.
Yeah. See what other injuries.
Maybe that'll be like we'll talk to Boone next week and maybe we'll play this game
again. Yeah.
For now, that's everything we're talking about.
And we love you very much and thank you for tuning in.
Oh, yanks. Oh, yanks.
Prepare for frog week.
Oh, and watch the warehouse challenges video where
Justin Panic is the strike zone. Have you seen this yet?
I have not. Oh, my God.
They're playing blitz ball and he is the strike zone
and he's not wearing protective gear.
That's a helmet.
And every time he gets hit, he makes a noise.
I look. I would like that.
Yeah, it is. I'm going to enjoy that.
Get lunch and watch that.
All right. Goodbye.
Go, Yanks. Tom Grams.
Oh, Yankees.
