The TRUTH behind the Anthony Davis extension revealed...
Aug 7, 2026
We got some major news on the Anthony Davis front today.
It's not only did we all hear that he is not going to sign his
extension today, the day he is eligible for his new maximum
contract, but we got a deeper look into the real reason and
really the truth behind the Wizards strategy.
We're going to dive into some of the reports and what it means
for the long-term future of the organization, but also we got
some NBA 2K news coming out lately.
And yeah, the Wizards are showing a little bit of love lately.
We're going to dive into all of that coming up on this episode.
Now, Nick, I know we're going to get into this later.
This is the day we all had marked on our calendars.
I don't know if I want to use the word anticlimactic because
over the last week it has definitely felt like this is kind
of the culmination.
We've been looking towards but I mean before we dive too much
into into the rest of the Anthony Davis stuff.
I mean, do you feel a little maybe disappointed that we're
not getting some kind of big breaking signing today?
Yeah, it was always going to be I think this outcome even
and even mentioning it for a while here.
It was never going to be August 6th at the actual signing
happens unless they were planning on doing a supermax or
whatever the max are right away.
What is more notable though is something we'll dive into later
in the video.
There is some big information.
Now in case you missed it, you can see here from Joshua
Robbins, Anthony Davis and the Wizards will not settle on
an extension anytime soon and excuse me, leak sources say
that any meaningful talks about a possible extension will
occur during the season, not before, which makes all the
sense in the world.
You get to see how he fits alongside Trae Young.
You get to see how he fits alongside Trae, and if he ends
up playing really, really well, then they'll open up to an
extension.
So really good news all around, but there is some interesting
tidbits.
We'll dive into a little.
Yeah, before we get to that though, I want to take a look
at this at 2k stuff, but also for you guys in the comments.
Are you like, do you think there's a world where you'd be
okay signing into a match?
We got a little snippet from the article that indicates.
Well, if you say no, you're probably not the only one, but
let's highlight this first top 10 shop lockers.
Look 2k has been releasing stuff day by day.
We saw perimeter defense the other day and all these lists
are filled with controversy.
Let's be honest, but look who number two is behind only Victor
Wenbenyama who gets a probably deserve it 99 overall Jay Huff
as well.
I mean, it's he's always up there in block for game ratings,
but higher than Chad Holmgren higher than Donovan Klingon
Zach Eaddy.
It's Alex Sar number number two at 97 overall shop blocking.
So look, I like this right?
You know, maybe I thought I thought that maybe 2k and some
other people they might brush the Wizards off and maybe
wouldn't give him the benefit of the doubt but Alex are ranked
number three this year.
I mean, obviously one of the best shop blockers in the league.
I love to see this right?
It feels like the respect is starting to come towards the
Wizards despite this whole a fan saying AJ to Bonsai.
Hey, you know go request to trade in China.
That was a bit wild.
But look it feels to me Nick that like the hype around the
Wizards is kind of escaping just the Wizards fandom now,
and this is just the latest example of it.
Yeah, sorry.
The great year last year 16.7 remastered probably not talked
about enough was a hundred percentile in blocks and nearly
to a game.
So obviously Victor Wiminyama is number one.
He always will be number one kind of it.
I guess it's kind of like 99 percentile because obviously
Wiminyama was in another world, but I don't know.
It is a very it's a fun thing to talk about obviously 2k
ratings.
I don't want to say they're subjective but whoever that times
they are Jay Huff there is pretty funny of Chet Holmgren
as well.
But the bigger story again is the Wizards getting some respect
from a lot of different people whether it's Kendrick Perkins
whether it's now NBA 2k, but also sir is poised for a
breakout year next year.
And he obviously averaged 16 and an 8 if that can increase
just a little bit with Trae Young's help to even like 18
or 19.
He instantly becomes one of the best bigs in the MLB.
I don't think that's that far away from happening NBA not
MLB in the I don't think it's that far away from happening.
Yeah, stick him over there with the Nationals and see what
happens.
I mean, look.
Yeah.
No, I think you're right at this now.
The only challenge is how do you navigate a front court with
Anthony Davis?
Like that's something that he just hasn't had to do yet.
So, you know, there's been a lot of leeway.
They say hey Alex, you do your own thing.
But now it's like there's a bit of competition not directly
positionally, but 80 is kind of historically preferred to
play Center or anyway, it's a bit weird.
But look, we'll dive into 80 stuff now leave some love for
Alex are down below.
Um, so as we saw look, he's not signing this contract today.
It's going to be during the season not before but I want
to go deeper right the real reason that this is happening.
So first off, um, Josh Robbins says in this article, which
will be linked down below it is difficult to envision the
Wizards or perhaps any team agreeing to a four-year 275
million dollar extension with Davis and goes on to say even
if the 2026-27 season starts well for Davis in the team,
it's reasonable to speculate that both sides could find
themselves far apart on a potential extension.
Now again possible or reasonable to speculate.
So this is not like a hard and fast report.
However, it is very true, right?
You combine this teams will not want to give him a max,
especially not a four-year max that will bring him to age 38
at the end of a 60 plus million dollar a year contract.
There is reason to be concerned that you know, they will not
align on an extension which is probably why I would say this
probably isn't even necessarily Wizards light.
It's probably both of these guys, right?
The Wizards are saying if you want to sign today, we got to
give you like a lot less money because we don't have faith
in your health and Anthony Davis is like you want to pay me
less money.
Let me go out and prove what I have and show that someone
will pay me a max.
So I think there's a little bit more information divulged
here and it's seeming like even if it is just noise at this
point that they might not actually end up agreeing on terms
at all.
I don't know.
I don't know how you feel about it.
That's kind of the vibe I'm getting.
Yeah, even the worst case if they don't the kind of caveat
here the words are going to give up very much to get Anthony
Davis.
Anyway, so the nightmare scenario isn't that much of a nightmare
scenario.
I think the most likely outcome here is if they play well,
it kind of depends if Davis wants to be in Washington ultimately
and will he request a trade who knows can't predict the future
but he is one of the best big men in the league.
So if he goes out and he plays really really well and he
doesn't want to extend the Wizards could in theory trade him
at the deadline.
If he doesn't play well, I mean then you just don't extend
him and you ride it out.
Maybe you still trade him or if he wants to remain and he's
playing well, which I think is a very likely case scenario.
They find some middle ground now if there's a team out there
that will extend 80 in the suit on the max.
I don't know.
I doubt it at this moment, but I don't think this is necessarily
bad news.
I guess the scary part is sure if they're far apart, you didn't
give up that much to get him.
This was always kind of just assumed anyway.
Yeah, there's a few other paths.
You have to start navigating down like do you start to debate
like a move sooner?
I don't know like but I think ultimately like is even said
in the article.
It is just a sample size thing, right?
Like it really is like it for both sides.
I think right Davis wants to prove he deserves this max contract
and the Wizards want to see how it actually works.
The decision to hold off on a substantive talks until the season
could stem in part from both parties needing to learn more
about each other questions that perhaps can only be answered
after Davis and the team have played a large enough sample
size or regular season games.
Yeah, but then at what point is the sample size enough, right?
Like this team is looking good on paper, obviously, but like
the long-term future of this team, especially with the contracts
that are coming up like the contracts right now.
There's not much right like there's really not much especially
beyond the 27 28 season just like AJ Devon said a couple of
rookie deals.
They're like trip, but these extensions for sir for Kula Bali
eight and I'm not in but anyway guys like a Carrington right
even will Riley maybe Keyshawn George.
These will all factor in to Anthony Davis.
I mean, how big is a big enough sample size?
Like if if Davis has played all you know, 40 or 50 games leading
into the trade deadline.
Do you just ride it out this year?
Even if he decides to maybe decline his player option because
that's another thing.
He still hasn't announced right?
He would have to decline the player option to sign an extension
or maybe he's waiting it out to if he has another injury-laden
season.
He tries to bet on himself next year.
I think there are a lot of big moving parts that are you know,
that just make this whole thing like an onion right?
It's like layers on layers on layers here.
If they do end up being a playoff team at the deadline to be
pretty rough to trade him if he's a big part of it or to you
know, let that go.
So I don't know it'll ultimately be interesting.
I don't think any path is necessarily bad.
I mean the worst worst case scenario.
I think is probably he doesn't play.
Well is injury-ridden and then ups into the player option.
It's just some money tied up but I even then like you saw the
potential next year of Anthony Davis being in all NBA players.
You can kind of swallow that but it wouldn't be ideal and then
but then there'd be trade talks ago.
Do you want to free up some salary and like do you want to
get some value back to you?
No, you're not going to extend them after anyway, those questions
will get to when we get there.
But yeah today was a big day and look we're going to keep you
updated on all the latest stuff that's happening throughout
this season.
This is going to be a big talking point.
I can already sense it.
We still got a kulavali extension to talk about at some point
too. I mean we mentioned it the other day but like that's going
to be a big story throughout this year.
So anyway, make sure you're tuned in hitting that subscribe
button for daily Wizards videos.
Thank you for tuning in every day.
