What's the doctor saying? Did he get you both back?
Quiet, quiet, quiet.
Who's the doctor?
We need to get you back in here as soon as possible.
I can't hear him.
With a kneecap dislocation like this, there's a real possibility that a piece of bone or cartilage broke off
and is loose inside the joint.
If that's what happened, this may not resolve on its own and could require surgery.
Until we know what's going on, please do not try to walk.
The doctor just left me a voicemail and oh gosh, it's not good.
It's not good.
It's been weeks since I fell.
Guys, if you haven't been up to date, I had a terrible fall in the garage.
I was coming down, cleaning an old abandoned yacht that I purchased, fell off a ladder,
landed on the hard concrete on my knee and just the bones pushed out of place
and I've been waiting for the extent of my injury and I still don't know.
The doctor is very concerned.
I'm more than swollen and it's been multiple weeks.
There's a lot of fluid in my knee.
I still haven't been able to walk since the day that I fell
and the doctor just informed me that he says please do not try to walk or bend the knee.
He is super worried that when I fell, I broke a bone
and a piece of the fragment of a bone could be floating around or cartilage
and if that's the case, I may need surgery
and if I try moving it too much or walking on it, it could lock the knee and causing worse injuries.
It's really the worst.
I was really hoping the doctor was going to say like, you know,
swelling is fine and you can start to walk on it.
I'm sick of using these crutches.
It makes things so much harder.
But luckily, I'm going to be able to get into the doctor's really soon
and I'm just hoping I'm not going to need surgery and that I can start working on this.
So I'm really just honestly super anxious just to get into the hospital
so the doctor can take a look and hopefully say everything's good.
But from the sound of that phone call, guys, I think my knee is really messed up.
Today is the day I'm going to see if I'm going to be able to walk for the first time since I fall.
Using crutches has been one way to move around,
but I have not been able to put pressure or bend my knee too much.
So we're going to go ahead to the orthopedic right now so they can take a look at my knee
and hopefully they can tell me whether or not I can attempt to start walking again or not.
I'm really worried he's going to say I need surgery and to stay off it.
So we're going to keep it safe until we get there.
Let's head on to the doctors and see what they are going to say.
Walking into the doctor's office, I was starting to get a really bad feeling.
But when I finally got into the room, I saw this.
So this is pretty cool, guys. This is my actual x-ray of my knee.
This was right after they were able to pop that back into place.
And you can notice all the different bones.
And there's my hand, I guess, just holding my leg.
And one thing the doctor was showing is that I actually have this extra bump down here on my shin.
That is, I forget the name, but growing up I had Oscherschlotters is what they said.
Basically a lot of achiness of my knees.
And it was because I was growing too fast.
The tendon pulls really hard on that bone, breaking it and rehealing, basically creating a bump.
So that's part of why I have really bony knees.
Which is part of why I think my kneecap, when I landed on it, popped out of place.
Because it's just so bony.
But we're going to learn a lot today.
And hopefully it's good news.
But I am literally sitting right underneath the knee injury sign.
Looking at all the different stuff.
And I'm worried I tore one of these ligaments, maybe this one.
Or a little confusing.
Honestly, that knee looks quite complicated.
So I'm learning a lot.
And I'm hoping I get some good news today.
So guys, if you haven't already, please subscribe.
I want good news on this knee.
I want to be able to walk again so I can vlog again and do big crazy stuff again.
I don't want to be stuck sitting on the couch.
I was really hoping the doctor was going to look at my knee and say,
You know what? This looks pretty good.
All you have to do is give it some rest, a little bit of exercise, and you should be good to go.
But that is not at all what he said.
We got some fluid.
Well, the news, I'm not really sure if it was good news or not.
But it was definitely the reality check.
He's saying I did tear the ligament that connects the kneecap to the femur here.
Because it slid over, it's the thing that's supposed to prevent that from happening.
Because I landed so hard and my kneecap moved, that has to have been torn.
But he also thinks the swelling is a lot more than it should be two weeks out.
So he's worried there's a piece of tissue or cartilage or something floating around here that I broke off.
Which I'm not sure how you fix that.
But we're going to get an MRI to try to see what's going on.
So not amazing news, but not terrible, I guess.
So this is not the good news I was looking for.
He's prescribing me to get an MRI in a few days.
Where we can scan the inside of my knee and get a full picture once and for all.
To see exactly what is going on and the full extent of my injuries.
But until then, I am not cleared to walk on my knee.
And unfortunately, these crutches are going to be my best friends for a little bit longer.
Well, that won't be the last time I'm in the doctor's office.
Because I have two more appointments scheduled.
Next up is an MRI and then the follow-up with the doctor to really see what's up.
And I'm still not clear that I'm going to need surgery or not.
It is very much a possibility.
Very anxious to get in. Wish I could get scanned right now.
But I'm going to have to wait like a week to get scanned and another week to get seen.
Sure hope everything on my knee is okay.
It has now been about three and a half weeks since I fell.
And I'm still unable to walk.
The good news is I am down to a single crutch.
Which means with the brakes on and one crutch, I can walk around.
But to walk fully without anything, I am still unable.
So today, super early.
The sun just came up.
We're going to go to the hospital again.
We're going to get an MRI and see what's going on.
Because it is still very swollen.
I still can't bend it more than 90.
It's super jello-y.
So let's go find out what exactly is wrong inside of my knee.
Well, we made it to the radiology building.
We're going to go in and get that MRI.
And I'm very anxious.
I'm really worried.
There's a lot going on inside my knee.
The way that I fell and the impact, I think, has just caused a lot of issues.
More so than just simply a dislocated kneecap.
But today, we're about to find out.
The MRI was actually kind of crazy.
The machine is so powerful.
They make you take off every piece of metal possible when you go in there.
And when I was scanning one part of my knee,
I could feel my tissue in my knee vibrating and jiggling a little bit.
I don't know if it was placebo or if I could actually notice the beams shooting into my leg.
But I swear I could feel it tingling a little bit.
It was super crazy.
Wow. Well, the MRI went great.
And literally faster than we could run to a coffee shop,
I already got the initial results.
So I'm looking at the MyChart right now.
Are you nervous right now?
Yes.
I'm really excited because I just want to know already.
This will tell us if I need surgery or if I'm good or how bad it's going to be.
Because it's possible this could be a lifelong injury of sorts.
You could need surgery.
I may never be able to walk perfect again or ride a dirt bike again.
This could be serious.
So these findings are pretty exciting, to say the least.
Left knee pain after injury.
Evaluate for loose body.
Yeah, so that was what they were really concerned about.
It's some kind of loose body floating around in my knee.
Lateral patellar tilt with palatofemoral cartilage fraying and irregularity.
Okay, so there's an issue there.
Yeah, so I think, guys, it's actually...
This is getting a little scary.
Oh, gosh.
And there's a lot more.
Focal ocoseus contusion and small trabecular microfracture with patellar irregularity.
Okay, these words are actually, like, insane.
Yeah, let's just put this into chat and just see what they say.
Okay, so I just uploaded my MRI report.
Can you please, in extremely simple terms, explain this to me?
What exactly are the extent of my injuries?
Yeah, so in plain English, your kneecap popped fully out of place to the outside of your knee and went back in.
When that happened, the bones banged together hard enough to cause deep bruises and tiny internal fractures, but not big breaks.
You also partially tore a ligament on the inner side of your knee and strained the one that helps keep the kneecap centered.
And the swelling and inflammation you feel matched that level of injury.
Okay, guys, well, the initial MRI report sounds pretty crazy.
How do you feel about that?
I think it sounds, like, pretty typical for me.
Honestly, just thinking about it, my knee is starting to ache.
Feeling all those different injuries described, it's starting to ache.
I think I just need to go in and sit down for a little bit.
Yeah, we gotta get some ice on here.
Yeah, let's go do that.
Reading the MRI report was definitely scary, and using chat to help understand it is one thing.
But we do need to go to the hospital one more time so the doctor can tell me what he believes those results mean.
Look at it one more time, find out once and for all, can I start walking on it or will I need surgery or draining or something like that?
So let's head to the hospital one more time for this knee.
Oh! Why'd I do that?
Well, guys, this is it. We have the MRI and we're back here at the hospital to see what the total extent of my injury is.
And if I should be walking on this thing or resting it, do I need surgery or to get it drained?
We're about to find out. I'm really nervous.
We got the MRIs pulled up and the doctor's about to come in.
And we're about to take an inside look inside of my knee where we can see exactly what's broken, torn, or out of place.
And I'm really excited because it still hurts, it is still swollen, and I haven't done a whole lot of walking yet.
And this will be exactly how we'll learn if I'm going to need surgery or some kind of intervention, PT or whatever,
because we'll literally have an inside look. I mean, the technology of an MRI is so cool.
I am sitting here so nervously to both see the MRI results in person and also hear what the doctor says.
MRI looks pretty good for the most part. I don't see any loose bodies or anything like that.
I think this is just your run-of-the-mill first time at this location.
So if everything feels okay, do you recommend I start using it?
I wouldn't start running on it or anything like that, but yeah, you can walk on it.
Up until now, since I have fallen, I have been using these crutches everywhere, which are really annoying.
And today I can finally, for the first time, try to start walking on this thing.
I have to be really careful. I do not want to re-injure anything.
So Lydia, do you want to potentially help with this? Okay.
So guys, this is pretty exciting to be able to stand up.
Normally when I stand up, I push all the way with this foot, and like that, and really baby the leg, and then I'm crutching around.
But today we are going to see if I can stand on this thing.
Oh my gosh.
I'm still just standing. This is how I shower.
I stand on one leg, and then all these muscles get so tight that I'm going to try shifting weight onto my foot.
Okay, should I try baby steps? I'm going to take a step towards you.
Yeah, take a little baby step.
Okay, here we go. First step.
How does it feel?
It feels crazy.
Oh, it's still sore, and it feels so jello-y.
It feels like at any time it can just buckle.
It's like if you're standing and someone hits your knee and you want to fall, it feels weak.
It feels jello-y, and it's stiff.
It's just, yeah.
