The Eagles just got exactly what they were missing. It's only one game, but it already
looks like defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has found the solution to the biggest toll on his
defense, courtesy of one Howie Roseman. I'm your host Colin Kelly. Welcome to Eagles Digest. In
today's video, we're going to highlight one defensive player's performance in particular
from week one versus the Commanders and explain why if he keeps up this elite level play,
the Eagles are so well positioned to challenge for another Super Bowl. Before we do though,
subscribe to join the most passionately informed community of Eagles fans. 69% of you are not
subscribed. It's free after all. We're less than 100 from 2,500 subs. And when you think about
who won Vic Fangio has to be super excited about after just one game. It's none other
than Rick Wolin. Coming off of a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks. He already has some
championship DNA. He knows what it takes. He's learned notably from mistakes from a lack of
discipline in the NFC Championship where he almost lost the team with a ridiculous penalty that
allowed the Rams to continue a drive which led to a touchdown and made the game really up for grabs.
Rick Wolin, the on-field play is not really a debate. He was a Pro Bowl level player,
year one in the NFL. The Eagles were able to take advantage of a very interesting
situation. We've seen Super Bowl victories ourself lead to then roster cleanouts,
other teams being able to scoop up starters from your championship roster.
The Seahawks had to prioritize, had to extend a JSN, had to prioritize the likes of Devin
Witherspoon. Another team's potential discard is the Eagles absolute potential steal here
with one Rick Wolin. And when I think about his emergence after week one,
if he's able to sustain this, I really like the Eagles' chances over the course of the season,
especially starting with the regular season, the ability to win this NFC East yet again.
And when you think about the current state of the NFC East, you look at the market on
who wins the NFC East. Eagles currently the favorite at 53%, the Giants down at now 23%,
with the Cowboys also figuring in about 20%. The beauty of Cali is that you are trading
directly against other users, not the house like traditional sports books. You're buying
yes or no contracts on the outcome of specific events related to weather markets, politics,
and of course, sports. And when you consider a $25 yes trade on the Philadelphia Eagles at
a 53% chance, 25 to pay out 46 and 98 cents. Why 25 in particular, because if you're interested
in signing up on Cali, using the link in the description in the pin comment, code digest NFL.
When you trade 25, you get 25 added to your account instantly. And when you think about
just how incredible of a performance, the incident impact of one Rick Wolin. Her Sumer sports via
underdog, 39 coverage snaps for Rick Wolin, Rick Wolin for targets, no receptions allowed,
no yards, was a true shutdown level player. That is such a departure. As that outside corner,
alongside a Quinion Mitchell, from what we've seen in recent years,
you look at the likes of Adoree Jackson, look at Harry Roseman having to make last ditch efforts
of the world. The Eagles clearly seem to have found a fully fledged, not just solution,
but potential star level player. Notably, when you look at Vic Fangio, the early returns,
what he thinks of one Rick Wolin in this press conference today, where notably,
there wasn't a lot of positives to say from one as far as Vic Fangio was concerned,
how his defense played. But on Rick Wolin, in particular, I thought he played well. I thought
he had good focus, did a good job covering. Very pleased for Vic Fangio. That's about as ringing
of an endorsement as it gets. He loves to just say, Oh, you know, fine. He was fine. All right.
Or just outright not good. It was Rick Wolin and Zach Vaughn that really garnered the praise
of one Vic Fangio as far as his defense is concerned. And when you think about Rick Wolin
making his debut, he had this to say in a post game interview with NBC Sports Ashlyn Sullivan.
Today, as in Sunday, week one was the right stepping stone. It was crazy. I'm glad I could
come out here and have a great first game. I'm excited. That's all you want to hear.
As Eagles fans, we seem to have a guy that is already buying in, already really likes
this environment. I'm super excited. Over the course of this season, Rick Wolin being able
to make plays when he gets targeted, potentially game deciding interceptions or forced fumbles.
If not, out of sight, out of mind, no catches, no balls thrown his way. That also means he's
doing a fantastic job. When you look at how the Eagles even got into this position with Rick
Wolin, well, it's courtesy of one Howie Roseman. In Howie, we all trust. He seems to have hit an
absolute grand slam as far as the value, the opportunity that Rick Wolin presented him this
past 2026 offseason. You look at the contract. He has just a $3.4 million capping. He's 27.
He's in around his prime. He's 6'4", 200 plus pounds. He's got the length. He has special
athletic traits to perform to a high level, which he's already shown in just a limited sample
against the commanders already off to a strong start here in Philly. But he's shown the point
being he's shown elite level play. It's just whatever reason Seattle, it was time to turn
a page, a new chapter for both player and team. In the context of this cornerback market,
you compare Rick Wolin, his contract. He doesn't even figure into the top three,
as far as average annual value, notably as well, just a one year deal, where other teams were
forced to understandably give three year deals. Alante Taylor, Jalen Watson, Ordale Flott,
Jamel Dean, all four of those players having AAVs 19, 17, 15, 12.2,
all surpassing the value, what it costs to sign Rick Wolin. Just a one year deal.
But at the end of the day, that one year deal gives the Eagles flexibility. And if Rick Wolin
continues to give rave reviews of how he views this city, how he views this environment, this
home field, I could see an extension absolutely in the cards, whether it be a two year extension
following this season or potentially three years, depending on the number. I would not mind that
whatsoever. You got to pay for quality. And it already looks like the Eagles got immense,
immense value. When you think about just how important I think Rick Wolin can be to this
defense over the course of this season. We've already actually gotten a bit of a inside peek.
Quinion Mitchell, and Cooper Eugene, we know they're all pro, all pro level players.
You look at in this image, the gap between them, this is from last season, but the physical
and proverbial gap, the presence that a Rick Wolin can fill, as far as the corners are concerned,
makes their lives so much easier. In other words, it also makes for a Cooper Eugene to say,
or Quinion Mitchell, if you're having a tough game, okay, you've got Rick Wolin and the other two
to carry you to lift you up. Cooper Eugene had a tough game against the commanders this week one.
But a function of his performance was the commanders having to target him because of the
success of Quinion Mitchell and Rick Wolin on the outside. Iron sharpens iron. And that is clearly
the case with these now three headed monsters. As far as the Eagles cornerback room is considered
an incredible departure from the Eagles. Seemingly prior to the most recent Super Bowl run,
corners have always been an issue, but not anymore. And guys, I want to see I want to hear
from you, your thoughts with the Rick Wolin signing. Do you think he will be ultimately
the best edition of this 2026 offseason, whether it's draft picks, or trade free agency? Yes or
no? Me, I'm going to say yes, I absolutely do. He considers performance and not wait to see how
he looks. The two versus the Titans. As you see the next one. As always, go birds
