Stone by Stone, the Wall Takes Shape | Old Finca Restoration

The wall is getting taller!
We're back working on the old stone wall as part of our ongoing finca restoration. It's slow work, but stone by stone we're gradually rebuilding the opening and turning it into a strong, solid traditional stone wall.
In this episode I continue laying the stones, filling and consolidating the wall, and adding large through-stones to tie everything together and give the wall strength.
There's no quick way to build a wall like this. Every stone has to be selected and fitted into place, working with the shapes of the old stones rather than against them. The result is a traditional-looking wall built using lime mortar and the same principles used in the original construction.
I also talk a little about why lime takes so long to cure, how it gains strength through carbonation, and why allowing the wall time to breathe is so important in an old stone building.
And, as if building a wall in nearly 40°C wasn't challenging enough, thunderstorms are approaching, so the newly built wall has to be covered and protected from the rain.
This is all part of our ongoing restoration of this old stone finca. There is still a long way to go, but slowly, stone by stone, we're getting there.

Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe video documents the slow, meticulous process of building a traditional stone wall using lime mortar. The builder focuses on structural integrity through the use of \"through stones\" and manages the challenges of extreme heat and the slow curing process of lime, eventually pausing work to protect the structure from forecasted thunderstorms.
