The Cleveland Cavaliers are eyeing their next move to fill out their final roster spots
And it is a sneaky good one
It is a player that I talked about a little bit ago on this channel as the Cavs were linked to him
But it seems like the Cleveland Cavaliers acquiring this player is actually starting to look more and more official as the days come by
I am at Plan G here with Cavs Digest just showed you a couple clips of the player
We're gonna talk about him as the first time I talked about him
I thought it was all speculation and I didn't really think maybe the Cavs were just looking at him if they couldn't get Peyton Watson
But they still got Peyton Watson. They still could also be getting this guy to fill out their roster
We're gonna talk about the bad the good the ugly the great all that good stuff here on Cavs Digest
Let's dive straight into the news
So the first report we have here
sleeper Cavs
Sports Illustrated now
Report the Cavs are pursuing Bruce Brown to fill their final roster spot for Sports Illustrated now
So I mentioned a video I think was a couple weeks ago where the Cavs were
Apparently linked to Bruce Brown or were interested in Bruce Brown and that was it and I honestly thought I couldn't spin
Oh, maybe they should get Bruce Brown or maybe they just said hey Bruce
I wouldn't be bad, but it actually seems like we have multiple sources telling us that the Cavs are genuinely I'm Bruce Brown
So we're gonna talk about him today. Just kind of dive into
What he can bring to the Cleveland Cavaliers if it's even worth assigning or if the captured aim to fill in their roster
Elsewhere, let's dive into it. Let's first off
I start off by just breaking down his stats kind of doing you know what we'd like to do on this channel
Just talk about the player his true impact what he can bring to the Cavaliers
Of course keep this in mind Bruce Brown would come to this team on a pretty cheap deal
I just wanna make that very very very clear
Very very clear the first one
He's a guard
We already know how we feel about that, right?
The Cavs don't really need any more guards in my opinion
But now that they don't actually have Schroeder when you think about it adding a backup point guard that has veteran
Championship pedigree and playoff experience wouldn't be that bad and I'll explain why
So the Cavs got rid of shooters crappy contract in this offseason in a trade to the Hornets for training man
Now the Cavs are kind of just looking at what they can do
If you kind of actually look at their guards their backup point guard and pretty sure is like it's Tyrese Proctor
the backup shooting guard is
Sam Merrill and
Malik Thomas, those are kind of their guards right now. Okay
You think about it? I'm like, okay. I love Tyrese Proctor. I think him and Thomas should get playing time
Of course, I do like Merrill. Well, what Bruce Brown brings is something that you actually don't have on the Cavs. You have an aggressive
Bulkier guard who is pretty solid on defense and isn't gonna turn over the ball that often now
I do think that one turnover to two assists
He's not actually a primary ball handler that much and that's something that he does lack the guard spot
So before I dive into everything, let me talk about the good the first good
You don't have a veteran guard on your bench that has
Good that has proved himself yet
I mean Tyrese Proctor is young, Malik Thomas is young and Sam Merrill is a shooting guard more than a point guard
So is Bruce Brown really but they just have completely different play styles. They're good. He's super athletic
I showed you his post. I showed you two dunks from him. Let me show you this one
The guys look at this if you remember this in the playoffs where he dunked over Lonnie Walker and Anthony Davis that was disgusting
He's super athletic
The Cavs actually don't have an athletic. Well, they do but they've never really had like that slashing type of guard
They had it with Lonzo or they tried it with Lonzo. I guess Alonzo's pass first. They always have Donovan Mitchell who does it but
Bruce Brown super athletic. He can also stretch out the 40 is a 30. What is that 38% three-point shooter last year?
He won a championship in Denver where he was really really good in the playoff run and
So he is a pretty efficient shooter eight points on okay splits
He's a little older now than he used to be. Of course. What is that 30? What does that say 30?
I guess it's 30 years old. I think he's 30 something. I don't know exactly 35. Maybe he's 35. I guess
No, he's 30. Okay. Yeah, he's 30 years old. I
Years old so he isn't that old he's actually in a prime age of basketball primes
I'm pretty sure over the course of the NBA history
Prime age of a player is 27 31 or it's probably gone down now that a lot of young guys
But Bruce Brown at the age of 30 has a lot of time still he has been traded a lot
He played in what Toronto, Indiana?
He played in Brooklyn with James Harden. That's also something to keep in mind
It does have chemistry with Harden a little bit. I played at Denver Toronto, Indiana, Brooklyn
That's all the teams. I was on my head much of that was all of them
But so he does have experience on multiple different rosters and multiple different systems, which is something that we had value here as well
He is gonna play differently to Dennis Schroeder
he's not gonna be a primary ball handler as much as he is gonna be a secondary ball handler and
be able to kind of sin the corner and hit a couple shots or
Go off of a backdoor cut in slash and he's also gonna crash the glass more
So he's gonna be a different play style at the guard that we don't see often from the Cavs
He plays like a small forward and a shooting guard
Let's talk about the bad. He's six foot four
He
Doesn't shoot that much
Another good. He's a good defender. He actually is a good defender
He's kind of a drama queen. He likes a getting arguments. He likes to cause a little bit of drama on the court
I've seen a fight with that book or if I would come to rant. I'm a lot of stuff
I also saw him pluck Kevin Durant in that video that shows you guys
highlight video but
There's a little bit of his game that you know
You want that you're gonna have to find a spot for because the Cavs do need more big men depth
I think using this last roster spot on a guy like Kevin love Daniel gaffer something like that
I obviously if Jalen Duran was available, but it's not so I think using it on a center
Kelly Olenek would be like
Because you can shoot and you can shot block shots, but he's older now. So the Cavs probably want to use that rush spot a big man
But I like Bruce Brown
And I feel very very confident. That's who they are going through side. Let's look at what Terry Pluto had to say about it
He was another source that said oh, I heard that they were linked to Bruce Brown as well
He said quote Brown is in play as an addition via free agency bringing playoff experience
Versatility and playmaking with one roster spot open Brown could be a strong fit. I
Think because the Cavs
Historically are pretty
At developing young guys or Kay Atkinson has been I mean not playing doctor not playing Tyson not playing
I'm Lee Thomas is probably gonna be fine. But this is a couple situations where I'm like dang, you know
Like some of these young guys could have got work on my baits with Travers all that good stuff
Craig Porter, of course just rocks there and Craig Porter is technically the backup point guard as well as Tyrese Proctor
But I've seen Craig Porter playing up and there they don't like playing him enough anyways
So, I really don't know what to do with Craig Porter honestly at all
So I think that we're just gonna sit here and kind of chill on the back of guard spot
Probably they're probably gonna let Thomas kind of just dominate in the G League for a while and kind of just develop his game down there
Of course, that's not what I want
But I think that is what the Cavs are gonna look to do when it comes to Bruce Brown and he said you get
versatility playmaking experience
So I do think you're going to get a lot from him
But of course the biggest downside is that you are guard heavy team and your backup centers Thomas Brian who I think is good
Especially for a bad minimum, but the Cavs just didn't trust him enough. So I think trying to add a guy
Trying to add a big man trying to add some big man depth would probably benefit the Cavs a little bit more
But Bruce Brown is a more unique guard. It's not like you're going out there and getting Lonzo or getting true
You're getting a guard that plays differently to those guys
So the synergy might be a little bit better on the Cavaliers, but that's just my personal opinion
He's gonna be a cheap contract
I'm very very certain of that because he has a free agent and I don't think the Cavs are gonna want to pay him more than 6 million dollars a year
So let me know in the comments below what you guys think about Bruce Brown
Should the Cavs go after him should the Cavs try to go for big men depth or do you guys like Bruce Brown?
I don't know
