Hey guys, it's Chante Dwayne here today. So today I'm going to be showing you guys how I do
the shingling method on my hair. I've tried this method a long time ago and I
actually didn't even do my whole entire hair. I just did like parts of my hair
that needed it the most. Back when I was transitioning I kind of used to try to
do this a lot but it didn't really work out as good. So I'm trying it again on my
fully natural hair and if my voice sounds a little weird I apologize. I
don't know what's going on but. So if you guys are unfamiliar with the shingling
method it's basically defining each and every curl on your head. So you're
basically going through and making sure that every curl on your hair is defined.
It can be very tedious but it is very worth it because you have super defined
hair first of all. Second of all if you do not like how your curls define on
their own and sometimes your curls just need a little push or you just want more
definition this is definitely the method for you. So I'm gonna stop talking
because I don't want my hair to dry out and have a lot of lights on. So I'm gonna
go ahead and start on the shingling method. This is what my hair looks like
just straight out of the shower. Let's get started. I'm gonna be using this
product right here. It's As I Am Curling Jelly. This stuff is absolutely amazing.
Oh yeah when you do the shingling method you want to make sure that you have some
type of gel or jelly product because I find that when you do it with gel it
works a lot a lot better. So yeah that's something that I actually learned back
when I was transitioning. I try to do it with a cream and it didn't turn out as
well. So gel is definitely the product that you need to use for this. I have a
leave-in in my hair currently. We're working on this first section and I'm
going to show you guys how I do it. The first thing you want to make sure you do
is to detangle your hair. If you have not already detangled your hair you want to
make sure you do that before doing the shingling method because one thing that
you don't want to happen is for your curls to be tangled with this. So you want
to make sure that they're completely detangled or this method just doesn't
work on hair that's not detangled. Some styles you can get away with not having
your hair completely detangled. This is not one of them. Okay so you guys see
that the dimming brush actually makes your hair super defined. So if you are
okay with the dimming brush. I always use the dimming brush. Then you can stop here. The
thing about the dimming brush is that it does not separate your curls. So your
curls are going to be clumped together. So just keep that in mind. Okay so you're
going to start off by taking a small section of your hair like this. You can
even take a smaller section if you want but I'm not going to do that today. Just
don't want to be here all day. You're going to go ahead and take your gel or your
curling jelly and you're going to go ahead and put that on your hair. Break it
through. Smooth it through. Whatever process you like to do. I like to smooth
it through and then once you have that product on your hair you're going to go
ahead and define each curl. Yeah so this is my hair. This is the shingling side
and this is just the side of my hair that has not been touched or anything.
Just wanted to show you guys a quick comparison and as you see my hair is
already starting to draw up. Oh well. But this is the comparison. As you see like
without even it being dry it already looks super defined compared to this
side. I'm going to do this side of my hair and when I come back I'll be done.
Okay now that I'm done I'm going to go ahead and put my sealant on which I'm
using jojoba oil which I always use and then I'm going to put Jamaican black
castor oil on the ends of my hair because I also always do that. My hair is
completely dry and I'm absolutely loving the volume and the definition that I
achieved from the shingling method. This is really something that I'm going to
revisit. I'm not gonna lie it was super tedious. I had to really like talk myself
through it because I have a lot of hair and doing that to one individual curl
all the time would just be too crazy for me and my schedule because I'm already a
mother so that would just be too much to do that every single every single time I
did my hair. But I would definitely revisit this on an occasion especially
when I just really want my hair to be full of life like this. Like oh my gosh
like curls are just popping up everywhere. So I love it so much and this
is just the first day. I normally have to wait until the second day to achieve this
type of look on my hair because the first day my hair can kind of be kind of
flat but so I know on the second day my hair is gonna be really really good. So
yeah I really do recommend this method for anyone who's willing to give it the
time. It definitely works. It's definitely going to work for you if you're
trying to define your curls. It definitely worked for me. So yeah I hope
you guys decide to give it a try because guys it's so good. That product did not
make my hair crunchy at all. I have lots of movement and yeah that product did
not do anything to my hair at all. So all I did was make it you know bomb. So
anyways I love this so much. I hope you guys try it out. I like I said would
definitely be revisiting the sheen blend method because I just love my hair so much. I'm so sorry I keep saying that.
Anyways thank you guys so much for watching this video. Please give this
video a thumbs up. Don't forget to subscribe and I'll see you guys in my
next video. Bye!
