Sail Life - Channel Introduction (mostly for newcomers)

Hi! If you're new to this channel and you're wondering what I'm up to, well then this video
is just for you. I've been uploading videos to YouTube for well over two years now,
and I figured it's about time I made a dedicated channel introduction video.
First off, my name is Mads and I'm 35 years old. In 2015 I sold my house and I moved aboard my
30-foot sailboat Obelix with my Icelandic sheepdog named Jökul. Prior to us moving
aboard I'd already been refitting Obelix for about a year. About halfway through that refit
she looked a little something like this. It was about that time where I discovered how rewarding
and how much fun it can be to restore an older boat. We are currently located in the northern
parts of Denmark and as of recording this video I've been living aboard for a little over a year.
There's no doubt in my mind that selling my house and becoming a full-time liveaboard is the best
decision I've ever made, but as you can see there's not a lot of room here aboard Obelix.
For me to be able to travel to the places where I want to go I need a slightly larger boat,
and this boat right here behind me is that boat. She's named Athena and she's a British-built
Warrior 38 from 1987. I purchased Athena in May of 2016 and I sailed her back home from Scotland.
Immediately upon getting back home to Denmark I got started on a pretty extensive refit.
Most if not all of the videos I'll be publishing for the next year or so are going to be focused
on the refit. Eventually I do plan on branching into cruising videos and also some product reviews,
but I've got a real passion for DIY so you should expect to see a fair bit of DIY on this channel.
Welcome aboard Athena. My plan is to transition from being a liveaboard to becoming a full-time
cruiser over the next five years. That means severing all of my ties to land and then just
cruising the world. Personally I'm more attracted to cruising in the higher latitudes so that means
places like the west coast of Norway, Iceland, Greenland, the Northwest Passage, just in general
places where you need to make a bit of an effort to keep warm. If the refit I'm doing here aboard
Athena sounds interesting to you or you're intrigued by my future plans of transitioning
from being a liveaboard to becoming a full-time cruiser you can just go ahead and click the
subscribe button if you haven't already. To get you started here on the channel there are three
playlists I can recommend. First is the introduction playlist which contains all of the key moments
from my life over the last two years or so and there's about 10 videos in there. Then there's the
playlist named all videos which contains every single video I've ever published listed in
chronological order. And last but not least is the playlist named project Athena which contains all
of the refit videos from here aboard Athena. I publish a new video every Sunday so I hope I'll see you on Sunday.
