Sail Life - Warrior 38 (sailboat), quick boat tour

Hi guys! If you're thinking, wait a minute, you're not about obelisks, you'd be correct,
and in fact I'm not even in Denmark right now, I'm in Scotland in a small town called Kirkcudbright,
and this is Athena, and Athena is in all likelihood going to turn out to be my next boat.
A little earlier today, the owner, John, and a friend of John's and I got the sea trials out
of the way, and she handled that perfectly fine. So right now the boat is, well, I don't know if
the correct term is up on the heart, because it's more like we're stuck in the mud, but
I'll show you. Ta-da! Well, a few hours ago we just motored on in here, tied up,
and waited for the tide to retreat, and well, here we are. We don't have these back home in Denmark
because, well, we don't have the tidal range for them, but apparently that thing right there is
called a boat leg. The boat has two of these boat legs, one on each side, and they keep the boat
from toppling over. Now I don't know if you guys could see this on the footage you've just seen,
but there's actually a bit of room underneath each of the legs right now, and that's because
all of the surface that we're sitting on looks like mud. It's actually a concrete slab covered
in mud, so the keel is just sitting on top of that slab of concrete, not sinking into the mud
like it normally would. So right now the boat is actually just balanced on its keel. Now the owner
of Athena, John, has allowed me to spend a bit of time aboard Athena, and I thought I'd take
advantage of that time to give you guys a tour. Let's start the tour here in the companion way,
and the steps are actually kind of steep, but that's okay. So to the left of the companion way
we have the first aft cabin. This is going to be a little bit difficult to capture because the lens
I've got on the camera isn't really wide enough. Inside the port aft cabin there's a chat table,
single sideband radio, VHF radio, and some other electronics. There's also pretty decent access to
the almost brand new engine. There's actually a fair bit of room in the port aft cabin considering
that this is a 38 foot boat. The starboard side aft cabin seems a lot more cramped. There are two
bunks in there, but there's not really a lot of room for moving around. Immediately forward of
the starboard side aft cabin we find the first of two heads here aboard the boat. Again there's not
really a ton of room in there, but I've certainly seen worse. If we move forward that brings us into
the saloon. On the port side we have a decent sized galley. On the starboard side we have a huge couch.
I'm six foot two or 189 centimeters and I've got plenty of standing headroom. In the middle of the
saloon there's another small couch or bench or whatever you want to call it and don't mind that
yellow bag that's just the inflatable. But there really is a ton of room in here especially
considering that this is only a 38 foot boat. If we move further forward we come into the forward
cabin. When you're coming into the forward cabin you actually go down a small step and that means
that there's also standing headroom in the forward cabin. The rebirth aboard this warrior 38 consists
of a traditional rebirth but then after of the rebirth there's a couch. After that small couch
there's a small table and a mirror and not only that but the forward cabin also has its own head
and inside of that head there is a separate little shower. Like I said there's a ton of
room down below considering that this is only a 38 foot boat and I love the layout of this boat
and I think living aboard Athena is going to be pretty sweet especially considering the
cramped quarters I've had for the past six months. Having said that there is a ton of work to be done.
There's blistering on the hull below the waterline and actually John the owner just showed me that
there's a bit of blistering on the transom above the waterline also but we'll get to that and then
there's a teak deck that at some point needs to be removed and well I won't put on a new teak deck
I don't think because that's really expensive but we'll get to that and well then I think
everything down below could do with a bit of sanding and varnishing which you guys know I
absolutely love. But yeah I don't think I'll get bored for the next few years so that's good.
Now next week I'm going to be in New York City and I think I'll have time to sit down a few
hours one of the evenings while I'm there and shoot a quick Q&A video so if you guys have got
any kind of questions in relation to the new video just post them down in the comments and
I'll put them on the list for that video. Other than that I think that's going to be it for this video.
See you! Oh just one more thing before I go. I noticed in the comments on the previous video
about the new boat that there was quite a few guys asking if I need help sailing her back home
to Denmark and I actually already have a full crew but thank you so much for offering to help
and well I am very much looking forward to that trip by the way. Okay so yeah that's gonna be it
for this video. See you! Jekyll and I hope you've enjoyed this video. For more videos like it click
