Hello, Legion. This is Hadrian. Thank you for being here.
Let's play some more Civilization VI
in our Glory of Rome series.
So we've got Oenopons brought back from the brink. They
were about to lose one of their population, so I'm glad we caught that.
Would a bath district
benefit them at all? Maybe. These are not hills, are they?
Hang on. I just want to see what type
of... Yeah, this is just grassland.
So maybe if I built a bath district there to give them
additional housing. So let's do that.
Let's do a bath district in Anapons, and then we will clear
that out with a builder when one is ready.
How much did a builder cost? $220 something? $420.
Okay, they're a little bit more expensive than I thought,
but we can use a builder to get started
on that area with some important projects.
Actually, we've got this builder ready to go,
so I can go ahead. Oh yeah, this would be perfect.
Here's what we'll do. We're going to send this
builder up here, clear that wood,
which will help finish off the bath. Then we need to improve that
and give Anapons another farm tile,
because the issue is the city is just not growing right now.
Constantinople needs to have its heresy removed once again.
This builder, yep, you just need to improve that.
Constantinople will hopefully be growing as rapidly as possible.
And now we're at a rather significant moment.
We're gonna go ahead and found Athens right there, Athene.
And that city needs to grow rapidly as well.
So let's go ahead and give them the granary.
Also, I think I have enough faith
to purchase the water mill as well. Perfect.
And then the last thing we need around here is,
can't quite buy a trader yet. We'll be able to next turn.
and we don't have room for one, though, so
when we get access to a new trade route
we'll be building that as well. Let's go ahead and do
a monument in Athenae, and
we're going to need a builder down there, too. I haven't
I seriously, like, I haven't done anything
more like for a while. I spent an entire episode there
just kind of relaxing, dude. I don't know why you're
denouncing me. Nobody likes me.
Yeah, literally nobody likes me.
Interesting. Ah, not even Gilgamesh
likes me. I think I'm a warmonger.
Alright, well, wait till you see what I'm about to do to France.
You're really not going to like me. Alright, so we're almost
done with some of our other religious buildings, and we can finish
converting some of the other cities in the area back
to our religion specifically we're building
a cathedral and we're building a lot
for various variety purposes in um for various variety is that
even a phrase you can use um you know what i mean we're we're getting
that we're getting that stuff
ready repair out of defenses oh yeah it's only a little bit damaged
but go ahead and do that
and we can't quite buy this with faith
but i want to go ahead and build that so that we have the
extra culture coming in and castra didn't get
to it yeah you definitely need the granary go ahead
work on it, you need that as well.
Constantinople does.
Now this Inquisitor,
hmm, we're gonna have
that Inquisitor go back up to Castra at Dingetia.
We've already cleared that city once, but we're
gonna do it again. Now this builder, I think, was coming here, right?
So go ahead and do that. We
have another builder that just finished up in Mediolanum,
but I need that builder to be improving
stuff around Mediolanum, because that's one of our core cities.
And then we're gonna have that
Quadrum going alert until they're upgradable.
Excellent, let's improve that stone. And then
there's one more build,
so maybe we'll improve that cattle for the extra food. And no, Arabia.
The world doesn't work that way.
Everyone's making demands on me. It's kind of cute.
We need to go to war with France pretty soon.
No. No. I may have to resort to other means to
have my demands met. Yeah, well, yeah. Try it.
By all means, try it. Yeah, Russia's trying
really hard
to push back religiously.
Okay. Mediolanum.
Why don't we... There's a couple
things I could do.
Commercial hub investment might be a good idea.
Encampment training. Yeah,
let's go for commercial hub investment.
If we can get a couple of great merchants,
That would be amazing. And then it seems like I need to buy that.
Oh, that's actually in range of Constantinopolis
So I need to definitely do something with that. Alright, Envoy.
We are suzerain of our two military city-states, which is good
We are not we don't have an envoy with Stockholm,
but I think we needed to work
Yeah, we need to work towards Hattusa as much as I need
to get the additional culture points right now
Getting that suzerain bonus.
Well, actually no, let's go ahead and get the extra
Culture per turn in the capital just to help out a little bit
But I do need to get to Hattusa's suzerain bonus eventually,
but we're not there yet.
And where is Hattusa, for that matter?
I think this is supposed to be it.
Yeah, it's listed differently.
It's referred to as Samson on the map,
but it's definitely the city-state of Hattusa.
This is...
All right, so we did have builders.
We had builders going up to do the same task.
So this guy...
Yeah, why don't you go there and improve that?
That'll help Ennepon build stuff faster,
including the bath that's working on right now.
Okay, now this Inquisitor needs to come up to Castro Dinagetia.
Oh, crap!
I didn't notice there was a religious unit there.
That really sucks.
That Inquisitor might take some damage then.
So as you heard there, there was a little bit
of audio dropout from some of the noises.
If I declared war on Russia right now,
I could kill all of these units and really reduce
their influence in the area.
I could totally do it.
And I need to do that pretty soon.
I need to hit France hard, because they've got
a lot of units right up on my borders
that are going to try and do damage to me.
All right, so I actually need to position some
of these units a little bit differently
here, in case France gets any funny ideas.
And that unit needs to be promoted soon-ish.
Yep, let's move you guys.
there. Yeah,
I need to think seriously about declaring war on Russia.
We're going to move
that Inquisitor into town, and this Legion is going to come up here.
We're going to go to war
with France next. It's going to happen.
Battering Ram, you just go to sleep. Legion Corps, you go
on alert. And then you, oh wait, let's go ahead and remove those woods.
The bath is finished being
built, and I think that was the builder's last charge.
Nope. Oh, yep, it was. Okay, so now you
come up there, and we're going to need to build some stuff there.
Now, this Spearman can be
promoted. Let's go and make them a
pikeman, and we're gonna need to do that
for the other one as well.
Anapons is up for a new production project, so what do
you think? We could do... ooh, commercial hub there,
but that would hurt production.
Entertainment complex? Not needed. Theater square?
Not needed. Industrial zone? Could
be important. Yeah, let's go
and do an industrial zone here, because this is a
border city, and having the ability to... yeah,
that's gonna be vital. Having
the ability to produce rapidly there.
Okay, we've got the cattle improved there, and
And we are pretty much ready once we do this promotion anyway.
Oh, knock it off.
We're about to have a new government type and then you'll shut up.
What I might do is wait until I get that new
government type before I declare war
because having the additional military policies
is going to be important for winning this
and keeping a strong economy growing at home in the process.
Also, I need to go ahead and use some faith to purchase.
Wait, I can't yet.
I have to first.
All right, so we can't buy anything with faith there.
Or in Constantinople because they've converted all my cities.
Son of a bitch.
like these are the cities I need to be my religion
but they're being ridiculous
alright so let's promote that
Spearmint Oak Pipe Man
we're going to start moving on these guys next episode I would imagine
or not next episode next turn or two
well no I was just saying
no sorry getting myself crossed up
before we do that we have room for another
trade or two oh that's perfect
Athens needs that yeah go ahead and just build it in Rome
it's going to take two turns but yeah we're going to wait
until we have a new government first
so excellent got
a lot of visibility
there thanks to that open spot yep you can skip
your turn you can go on alert and then yep let's
improve that lumber let's definitely build a farm there
Anapons is finally growing quickly
that's wonderful to see so they lost
their seventh citizen finally somehow i don't know how
it should be on food focus maybe i guess when we
when we started building the industrial district
there maybe that's what did it two turns away
from having universities we're going to need to
build those in as many of our cities as possible
but we can purchase them with faith so we're
going to be doing that. And we can also build the
Hagia Sophia. Yeah.
Once again, Anapons is not growing, despite the fact they have
a farm. Don't understand it. It's a little bit
ridiculous. They just don't have enough food nearby. I mean, I
get it. It's just, you would think they'd be growing faster.
So, what city is this? Pella?
You probably need... Oh, you're done with your
Cathedral. Excellent. So let's go ahead and
repair your Outer Defenses. It's going to take one turn.
And this Pikeman can go on Alert.
Alright,
definitely setting up a Perimeter here.
And then do all of these tiles, Blonde
and Mediolanum. That tile belongs to what?
Pola? That tile belongs to...
Anapons, actually. Interesting.
I guess this tile should belong to...
I don't know. I'm gonna leave it as is.
But pretty soon we're gonna need
to do some stuff to get Anapons some more food.
There are definitely options. Alright, so this trader's done.
That may be one way to do it.
Do we have a trader going from Anapons? Right, we do.
Anapons is getting food help and still struggling.
But we need this new trader in Rome to boost Athens.
I need that city to grow rapidly, too.
The purpose of education is to replace an empty mind with an open one.
I conclude, then, this point touching upon
the power of kings with this axiom of divinity.
Okay, so, I'm a little bit, I'm still
a little bit upset we didn't get Alhambra, but, ooh,
wow, we don't have enough faith to buy universities.
Wow, holy crap.
Alright, well, let's go ahead and buy an Inquisitor, then,
because we need to address some of the other issues.
So, I guess what I should do, um, I need to go ahead
and be working towards a university, so let's, let's be doing that.
And, Pella can build Hagia Sophia, but I'd rather have
the Hagia Sophia in Constantinople, obvious reasons.
So let's go and let's work on a builder there.
And yeah, builder and a quincunx as well.
We're building ridiculous amounts of builders.
We're going to skip the new government for now
because we're not going to go with that option that we just got.
Need to wait for the next one.
Reform church in eight turns.
Okay, now moment of truth a little bit.
Need to get these units lined up.
Okay, new trader.
You transfer to Athens.
Yep, you just build a mine there.
That's going to go towards Oenoponts.
I'll help with the imperial cult.
Okay, excellent.
A quincunx needs a lot of love.
Let's first of all take a quick look at what tiles belong to what.
Yep. All right. So you go there, build a farm.
Lots of these tiles in this area need to be
improved. Also tiles around Athens.
Once we can build farm tiles on hills,
then things will be a little bit better.
Almost done with our amphitheater here.
No other wonders have been built yet.
Mediolanum actually has housing and,
okay, it doesn't have issues anymore with amenities. Those went away,
way, but we have housing issues, so that's preventing solid growth.
University does
provide housing. Good to know.
What I need is an additional holy site district
somewhere. Braga. I want to do a builder.
Still need some help up there. Minsk
could probably go ahead and use a holy site.
It's gonna provide me faith. It's
not the right type of faith yet.
We don't have that, but let's go ahead and do one
there.
I feel like that would be one
of the most defensible spots.
Athens. Trade with Rome.
Same thing. Let's have you on food focus as well.
Constantinople should be on food focus. It is good.
We have yet another, yeah,
we need to cleanse Catholicism from Rome again.
Interestingly enough, the fact that that keeps happening is
surprising. Now this builder is really for a quincunx,
so let's move him over there.
It's good that we made peace with Alexander.
These cities are finally recovering and doing well.
What's going on here?
Mohenjo-daro has made peace with Saladin.
Gilgamesh has made peace with Saladin.
All right, that explains those peace accords.
Yeah, Russia is really trying.
We need some religious units in the game,
but we need to use our faith for other things first.
All right, Rome is about to grow, so...
Okay, it didn't change the university production time, sadly.
We need 13 citizens to have another district as well.
So we need to go ahead and buy medieval walls for Minsk
so they can defend itself once we declare war with France.
And we are six turns away from the Reformed Church,
so I'm going to keep moving,
and we'll declare war once that happens.
Masalia, you need a builder too.
Go ahead and work on that, please.
Pella is ready to be converted, so let's work on that.
Get the deer camp built in Minsk.
So Minsk is, I think that's a formerly Russian city,
actually, that Alexander may have conquered.
Alexander's still expanding.
Petrozavodsk.
Petrozavodsk.
Interesting.
So some Russian city names now that he's settling up in that area.
It's kind of the downside of the real, of the true city names thing,
is that Alexander's settling cities that don't sound like,
you know, like cities that he would settle.
Let's go and do a university in Mediolanum as well.
We just need that for the housing, if nothing else.
And let's see, what else?
This builder needs to keep working on this.
So yeah, you go there and improve
that lumber mill, or lumber tile, rather.
Pella now is Imperial.
And I think we can go ahead and maybe do the same to Athens.
But we're definitely strengthening the core of the Imperial cult,
so it's going to do a better job kind of maintaining its strength.
How are we doing over here?
So far there's Kinshasa.
We need to find another city down here before anyone else does.
So another settler might be a good idea.
Icosium's almost done with their theater square.
And I can buy the initial buildings there outright.
So let's go ahead and do amphitheater
and there's nothing else that can follow it just yet
But that's helping with culture.
So reformed church is gonna be here in four turns
Settlers a little bit too far away right now,
but I do want to get a builder done there
I cozy um, yeah, we'll keep you on that current focus.
That's fine. Yeah, we need to go that way with the scout briefly
Improve that and come down there. We'll clear out that marsh
and I'll help Minsk grow a little bit. What are you doing?
I could Athens is already becoming Imperial
let's go ahead and use this Inquisitor on Constantinople
so that we can purchase some
stuff with this faith that we have.
I think using the Inquisitor should make Constantinople
one of ours.
What is Eastern Orthodoxy's deal?
Let's have a quick look.
They have Crusade,
so we need to keep it out of our cities
because that gives Russian, it gives any units,
no, particularly Russian units
because it's their religion. That gives them more power.
Excellent. Constantinople is now an imperial cult city,
which means I can go ahead and purchase
ancient walls outright, and I can't do that quite in Inquincum yet,
but I think I can purchase some
other stuff in other cities.
Let's have a look around really quickly. Praga, not just yet, but I
will be able to soon-ish, maybe?
No, maybe I've already purchased everything I can. I'll keep
looking, but for now it seems like we're okay.
All right, we can build a workshop now in Anapons.
Um, you know, let's do that.
We need that city to build everything quickly, as much as possible.
Alright, harbor, definitely in continent,
but we're gonna build it right there.
And can I put you on just no focus?
It will be done much faster.
That'll help the city grow eventually.
Athens, definitely a holy site. We're gonna put one right there.
Be done in 33 turns unless I take you off focus,
but actually right now you just have three citizens
so that's not making any difference, sadly.
I'm impressed with the unique culture
your people are developing. Goodbye.
The more science intervenes
in warfare, the more will
be the need for engineers
in the field armies.
In the late war, there were never enough sappers at any time.
All right, so it's 387 BC, but we are moving
rapidly towards having gunpowder.
That's one of the things about using Timex II.
It doesn't always do quite what you expect it to do with the timeline.
The calendar sync in Civ VI just still needs a lot of work.
But we've discovered a new source of niter,
which looks like we have some near Cor...
Oh man, that's the worst spot to have niter.
And then there's some niter underneath our encampment district there.
So we've already got that.
That's unfortunate that we didn't find more aside from those.
But let's keep moving because we're one turn away from Reformed Church
and the ability to declare war.
Pella, you know what?
We need additional units, don't we?
If we're going to really start knocking on France's door.
I could go ahead and start building.
Let's do another catapult.
We're going to need that.
That's been cleared and we're going to move that scout back down.
Meanwhile, yep.
trading, and Icosium is currently trading with Carthage.
But Carthage isn't helping Icosium grow,
and that's a problem. So I'm going to give up a little bit of gold here
so that Icosium can trade
with Rome. I just think that's going to be better for that city.
And we're going to keep building
farms in this area. No, dude, you don't get to make demands.
It doesn't work that way. So we're
moving towards reformed church at last,
and we're going to have some new policies here.
Should really help us in a number of ways,
and then we can declare war on France. And they have
a settler right there, which is a really,
really dumb move, because now I can capture it pretty
quickly we've entered the renaissance era i don't like
to commit myself about heaven and hell you
see i have friends
in both places government unlocked theocracy yep we can buy land combat
units with faith now as well
and now we're going to get some additional policy slots so
wars of religion plus four combat strength
when fighting civilizations that follow other religions
probably going to go with that i think let's see
if there's anything else that would be more
worthwhile nope let's go
with that and then additional economic policy we still want plus
one production in all cities um i think what i want
to go with is the double faith from holy
site district buildings
because we need that extra faith um now this i'm going to keep as well
for now but believe me i want meritocracy as soon as possible
so we're going to confirm those
policies and now that we have additional faith
that's going to help us push back in the religion
game much faster as well as purchase more units
because we now have that ability as a theocracy
right so we are getting 153 faith per turn it's
a little bit nuts um and i can go ahead and use
that faith. Tell you what, let's go ahead
and purchase... Can't purchase an Apostle
just yet. Why don't we do an Inquisitor
so that we can finish off some of the
areas that need to be converted away from our religion.
or converted away from other religions.
Let's go for a Naval Tradition really quick so that we can
in five turns get that additional Envoy.
Let's see what else we need to produce here.
Let's go ahead and work towards an Armory
here. And this Builder, I need
you to go ahead and build that as soon as possible.
We'll get that Lumbermill done. That Scout's going to be able
to step on top of some hills in a moment
that'll help in a few ways. Let's remove that marsh.
Minsk just grew a little bit as a result.
Let's build a farm there,
and then you need to come all the way down here. We've got two builds
left. We need to build up Athens area a little bit.
Constantinople is doing pretty well. Actually,
you know what? I can do a builder here.
Let's do that, because these tiles still haven't been
improved. All right, so Stockholm is a clear war in Alexander.
Interesting. Who is he at war with
altogether? He's at war with France, still.
So that war might never have died. Okay, so first
First things first, we need to take care of L'viv and Warsaw,
so let's go ahead and...
Not Victoria.
Catherine.
Castus Belly, let's declare a formal war.
It is on, France!
I'm pretty sure
he could have.
Pretty sure he could have, because his
predictions are pretty outlandish.
So goodbye.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, alright, Gandhi is not pleased with me.
So I can go ahead and, looks like we can only hit that catapult,
which is fine, because
I need to go ahead and knock that catapult out of the game.
Say goodnight.
Alright, then let's move our Legion Corps up,
and this catapult needs to move up as well
so that it can continue to do damage.
This Legion Corps can move there.
So this guy's gonna take a beating next turn,
um, I'm gonna go ahead and hit this catapult
with my pikeman.
And then Pola needs, eh,
there's a lot I can build here,
honestly, um, go ahead and build
an industrial district.
Yeah, let's do that. Let's get that going pull
is on food focus right now if I put you on
Well, I'll keep you on food focus. That's fine.
It doesn't seem to be affecting your production times right now
Anyway, so India is exploring this area
Unfortunately, so we're not finding anything new just yet,
but I'm gonna have that Legion Corps hang out
They're gonna take a pounding next episode. I want to burn next turn
I want to make sure that I don't lose them, but they should be okay
I think this builder needs to improve
that cattle you come over here to Aquincum
please. We need to cleanse that city as soon as possible.
Brundisium, keep trading with Rome.
I just need you to grow. It's already at seven population.
Not bad at all. Let me go ahead and
use this legion to attack these crossbowmen
and maybe even take that settler. I have another
crossbowman here. I might as well bring them up
into the fray because I'm going to need them
next turn. All right, let's see what happens.
Minsc can actually fire. Didn't see that because
they still haven't built in. Unless you're using CQUI,
from what I understand, I was talking to Quill
about this. Unless you are using CQUI,
there's still no way for the game to notify you.
There's nothing in the vanilla game
that will notify you of a city that has a ranged attack
being able to fire, which is really dumb,
but that's the way it is. All right, this Legion's
actually about to level up, so what I might
do is have them just fortify and take some hits and,
you know, be a little bit stronger as a result.
Interesting. This knight looks like they're going
to try and loop around and hit my crossbowmen, maybe.
These crossbowmen actually can't hit
anything. A couple different approaches I could take here.
I am going to fortify these guys.
I'm going to move... I'm not going to move the Pipe Men just yet.
A couple different approaches.
Let's see, yeah, let's have those guys fortify too.
And I'm going to hit these guys.
I'm going to leave these Crossbowmen right where they are.
Let's see what France does first.
Well, there's
also the option of...
Yeah, I'm going to leave them...
I'm going to leave everyone where they are.
For now.
Caralis... ooh, we can purchase a bunch with Faith here.
Let's definitely do Barracks. Ancient Walls I don't need.
Um, looks like we have room for another trader.
I might need to go ahead and just...
How much does it purchase? Nah, okay. Can't purchase one just yet.
But I need to think about where else I could put...
I mean, heck, Rome might be a good place to have a new trader.
They're almost done with their university,
so that could be the place to build it.
Let's see, Corallus, why don't you work on an armory then?
Or... yeah, work on an armory.
I need you just... we built that encampment for a reason.
Let's go ahead and start working on that.
And then a Quincum, I'll go ahead and do the trader there.
Why not? It's going to be five turns away.
And, ooh, I need to get you out of danger.
Let's go ahead and just put a farm there for Constantinople.
All right, so France looks like they're trying to come around,
but we've got some additional units training up in the area,
so it's not the worst turn of events so far.
All right, Aquincum is now in Imperial Cult City again.
We've just improved that lumber mill,
and we need to get that builder the hell out before they get captured.
They probably will not escape, I would imagine.
We'll see what happens here. I'm gonna let this turn cycle. Oh, cool.
All right, so Athenae just got its
strategic resource, its horses.
I would be shocked about it if I kept that builder.
All right, so they're hitting the legions from the side here,
but are you gonna do anything with those crossbowmen?
Can you do anything with those crossbows?
That might have just gotten a promotion for that unit,
which is exactly what I wanted to happen, so by all means.
Ah, no it didn't, actually. Still one combat away.
Alright, that legion just took a beating at the mercy of those units,
and what got pillaged?
The cathedral in Pella.
Of all things, the cathedral, which I don't think I can repair,
because it's no longer Alexander's religion.
Ugh, alright. Let's make a few quick decisions about this. I don't want
to leave you on a cliffhanger with what's going to happen to this unit.
let's see I could fire on these guys right now
and do a ton of damage let's go ahead and do that
let's have this unit back off you can also fire
on let's see if that'll actually kill them off
if it will then fantastic yeah let's go ahead
and finish off that unit we need we need to give
France some war weariness meanwhile I am going
to just have these units fortify in place and my
catapult still can't fire on anyone sadly
so we're going to leave that unit there as well but I'm
going to go ahead and stop this one here
in the next one we are going to continue our war against
France. It looks like I can go ahead
and fire with this guy, so I'll do that.
But we're gonna continue our war against France and hopefully
be able to knock out some of these units so we can move on
Lviv. We don't, I don't think we quite have enough in the area
to do the kind of damage to wear this army down quickly.
So it's gonna be a bit of a slog to get into the Lviv,
but we need to take this territory
and then take Warsaw and start moving this direction.
And then hopefully I want to try
and get some units built up over here as well.
We have this Legion here already that can help defend.
Actually that builder survived. That's fantastic.
So let's get that builder out.
We have this legion here. We have some crossbowmen here
So we have the ability to do some damage in this area
But we just don't just need to need to play it cool
and actually come to think of things we can do in the area
We have this crossbowman that we can pull out
or that was a crossbowman or was an archer now it's a crossbowman
And yeah, we're gonna keep moving on Lviv in the next episode
and then again hit Warsaw and see what we can do to the French
