Rome: The Rise and Fall of an Empire - Episode 9: The Soldier's Emperor (Documentary)

A compelling historical documentary episode charting the extraordinary rise and reign of Aurelian during the turbulent late third century. The narrative details how structural decay and rampant civil wars allowed breakaway factions to form the Gallic and Palmyrene Empires, leaving Rome deeply vulnerable to Germanic invaders. It follows Aurelian's transition from a disciplined cavalry commander to the supreme ruler, utilizing tactical innovations like the feigned retreat strategy to defeat Queen Zenobia in the East and General Tetricus in the West. The chronicle explains his systematic reunification of the fractured domains, his implementation of Sol Invictus as a unifying state deity, and the deep systemic shock caused by his sudden assassination.
