Fossils are evidence of life from the past
They can be the bodies of living organisms
Their bones their shells or their leaves
They can also be the result of their activity
such as footprints also called ignites
The feces or coprolites the eggs
Fossils are found in rocks and are the
result of a process called fossilization
Fossilization usually results from rapid
burial that prevents the destruction
of organisms and allows for their complete or partial preservation
Due to burial molds and impressions of
the organism can also form in the rock
Paleontology is the science that
studies past life through fossils
Paleontologists are researchers who discover fossils in
rocks They extract them using
appropriate tools and methods
They prepare and clean them in the
laboratory Removing the excess rocky material
they restore and reconstruct them
if they are fragmented and investigate them
The result of all this work is disseminated through scientific
journals but also in the form of news that almost daily
They appear in the media
The University of Zaragoza has a long tradition of
paleontology research Its
work focuses on Aragonese sites
of international relevance such as Arén Murero Daroca and Galve
But their researchers also participate in excavation campaigns
They are held all over the world
Many of the fossils displayed in this exhibition are the result
of their work and allow us to
reconstruct life on the planet Earth
Since it originated about
3.8 billion years ago
