Among the many memorable moments from Northern Academy's 2026 Graduation Ceremony, one message stood out with its simplicity, wisdom, and timeless truth.
As our graduates look ahead to the future, our Highschool Principal challenged them to think differently about success and impact.
Not by chasing recognition. Not by trying to change the world overnight.
➡️ But by first mastering themselves. Listening and observing with humility. Taking pride in even the smallest responsibilities. Learning from mistakes. Asking questions. And continuing to show up every day.
📈 As a math teacher, Dr. Sun offered a powerful analogy: "That kind of consistent, daily growth is an exponential function. It might start small, but it compounds over time, building your wisdom and courage to an unstoppable scale—ready to make a massive impact when your moment arrives."
💙 Three anchors to carry into the future: • Live with integrity. • Lead with compassion. • Face every challenge with resilience.
And finally, a challenge that may be the most important of all: ✨ "Leave it better than you found it." Whether that place is a college campus, an art studio, a workplace, a community, or a new city, strive to leave it better because you were there.
The Class of 2026 has already done exactly that at Northern Academy. You have grown so much during your time here, and Northern is a better place because of you.
🎉 Congratulations, graduates. The future is yours.
This commencement speech celebrates the Class of 2026, honoring their academic achievements, artistic pursuits, and athletic grit. The speaker emphasizes that while the students achieved record-breaking college admissions and awards, the true value of their journey lies in the character, resilience, and discipline they developed through hard work and community support.
Good afternoon, everyone.
It is my profound privilege to welcome everyone to this unforgettable day.
To our distinguished guests, members of the Board of Trustees, alumni, family, friends,
and supporters, thank you for being here to witness this milestone.
And to the incredible Class of 2026, look around, because this is entirely your moment.
Today we are here to honor your journey, your growth, and your determination that brought
you here.
First, let's recognize the team that got you to the finish line.
To our parents and families, thank you for being our absolute rock with your unwavering
love and patience.
To our teachers and staff, thank you for being the steady hands and guiding lights behind
every single success.
And seniors, look around at the classmates sitting beside you.
You've lifted each other up through tough moments and sweet victories.
That bound is a legacy all on its own.
Northern has always been a work hard, play hard kind of place.
And the Class of 2026 is the ultimate proof of that.
For you guys, studying extra hours for a calculus exam isn't even considered working hard.
You took it to another level.
Just look at the Science Olympia Build-A-Thon.
You didn't just work through the day.
You literally camped out in the D-Building overnight, powered entirely by snacks and
Professor Ahn's cooking.
Just to get that electric vehicle, the helicopter, the booming lever, the bungee drop, and the
hovercraft to actually work.
And then, after everyone completely wiped out and overslept, you woke up to a massive
Sunday barbecue hosted by Mr. Lorn.
So our historic Top 10 Science Olympia finish in the state wasn't just a victory for the
students.
Our coaches were a massive part of that.
In fact, I think they had to become star chefs before you guys could become star contestants.
Just to keep you motivated, inspired, and fueled along the way.
But that relentless drive doesn't stop with science.
We see that exact same grid across our entire campus.
It's in our dancers and our FBOA students who have pushed themselves to become fierce
national contenders.
It's on the sports field where our athletes fall hard in the Hudson Valley Athletic League.
It's in the art studios where hours of tedious stroke and torn-up draft finally culminate
in a masterpiece on the wall.
It's in our incredible music program whose musicians brought home multiple international
awards while bringing deep joy to our communities.
And at the heart of all of these is the profound care and dedication poured into you every
single day by every academic and art teacher.
This is not a vibe you can find at any ordinary school.
It happens here in a place where teachers, coaches, and students give their absolutely
best, absolute best to one another every single day.
Because at the end of the day, all of this relentless effort isn't just about college
acceptance.
Even though the class of 2026 shattered records with multiple full scholarships and Ivy League
admissions, it's not about stacking up awards.
It's about who you become through the process.
It's about building a core of pure grit that won't give up when life gets heavy and character
that lasts long after today.
As you look ahead to the future, let me offer you a different kind of challenge.
Don't rush to change the world.
Instead, focus on mastering yourself, listen, and observe with true humility.
When you join a new team, tackle the smallest task with pride, sweep the floor like an art
form, learn from mistakes, ask questions, and just keep showing up.
As a math teacher, I have to tell you, that kind of consistent daily growth is an exponential
function.
It might start small, but it compounds over time, building your wisdom and courage to
an unstoppable scale, ready to make a massive impact when your moment arrives.
Most importantly, live with integrity, lead with compassion, and face every challenge
with resilience.
Those three anchors will hold you steady through life's toughest storms.
Finally, no matter where your path leads, whether it's a college, an art studio, a workplace,
or a new city, leave it better than you found it.
You did exactly that here at Northern.
You've grown so much at Northern, and Northern is a better place because of you.
So, Class of 2026, congratulations on beating the odds, rising above the pressure, and becoming
the hope for our future.
We are incredibly proud of you.
Now go and make your life matter.
Thank you.
