One-of-a-Kind Yuan Dynasty Jar Highlights Christie's Chinese Art Auction Preview in Shanghai
Christie’s has opened a Shanghai preview for its Hong Kong Asian Art Week, showcasing rare Chinese ceramics, paintings and calligraphy ahead of the October auctions. The biggest highlight is a rare Yuan dynasty blue-and-white octagonal jar featuring the Daoist legend of the Eight Immortals and the Queen Mother of the West. The piece is believed to be one of a kind and is estimated at HKD 12 million to 35 million.
Other highlights include Ming and Qing dynasty ceramics, as well as contemporary Chinese artist Li Keran’s major landscape painting being offered at auction for the first time.
Following a record-breaking spring season that brought in HKD 872 million, a 54% jump from last year, the art market is highly anticipating next month's Christie's autumn auctions. The Shanghai preview is open to the public until Sunday.
