Old Keiss Castle

hi I'm Emily and I'm the castle girl today I'm at Keith [Music] Castle old Kei Castle is a ruinous towerhouse perched precariously on a sea cliff tonter over were looking Sinkler Bay just outside the village of keiss it is situated around 7 m Northwest from the town of Wick and 12 Mi south of Jon o groz in the region of K NES in the highlands of Scotland old key Castle was constructed by the fifth Earl of cith Ness George Sinkler on a site of a a possible ancient Fort around the early 17th [Music] century the castle was a zed plan towerhouse consisting of four stories and an attic the main block had two round Towers in opposite corners with one being a steer [Music] Tower you can still see the remains of a Ved basement and above that would have been the Great [Music] Hall as for a fortified house the walls were relatively thin measuring only only 3 ft in width the upper floors would have been the resident private [Music] Chambers the castle was supposedly the favorite residence of George [Music] Sinkler the seventh Earl of kiess died in the castle in 169 8 part of the castle including the main entrance collapsed when the cliff below it [Music] fell the castle was in Ruins by [Music] 1700 around 1726 a new bonial style mansion house was being built on the site which became known as New Castle Sir William Sinkler the second Baron of DBI bought the castle in the early 1800s and by 1752 keiss was his family [Music] seat however around 1760 5 the sinkers fell into financial difficulty and they sold the castle to the sinkers of [Music] alster during World War II the castles and the beaches were used to defend The KES area and were important due to their proximity to the orne ises where the Royal Navy housed its Fleet of [Music] Warships nowadays Kei Castle is a popular tourist attraction on the North Coast 500 which is a 500 m round driving route that begins and ends in Ines [Music] thanks for watching and I look forward to visiting a castle near you [Music] bye
