NAUTICAL DIYs You NEED to Try | Dollar Tree 2026 Nautical Decor (Before It Hits Stores!)
Welcome back to my channel, The Crafty Quinn. If you've been looking for nautical craft supplies
at Dollar Tree lately, you've probably noticed they're just not in stores yet. So today I'm
showing you how I made my own coastal inspired DIYs that look high-end without the wait for the
craft supplies in stores. So let's get into it. DIY number one, I'm using these tea lights from
Dollar Tree. I found these over in the candle section, in the glass holder section for tea
lights, and you can drop a couple tea lights into these. So these pop right off. They're
of course I have my assistant Pumpkin here with me today. She'll be popping up throughout this
video, so I'm excited for you guys to see more of her. So I only had this wide painter's tape
on hand, so that's why these stripes are not really going to be stripes. It's going to be
kind of one big stripe in the middle. So I did just wrap this around one time, but I felt like
it's not perfectly even. It's a little bit hard to get it perfectly even, but I felt like maybe
if you broke this up into a couple pieces of painter's tape, maybe you'd be able to even it
out a little bit better. But it still worked just fine. So then I'm using chalk paint for this,
and I'm using Waverly chalk paint. I did a pretty thick coat, so I only had to go back and touch up
a few places, but that was really all that was needed. So I just kind of painted over the tape
because that didn't matter, and that is going to be our big stripe in the middle that is going to
be a different color. So just use whatever paint you want, but I like chalk paint because it is fast
drying. And then as soon as it was painted, I did just rip it off right away because I didn't want
it to pull any of the paint with it the next time you pull it off after it's dried a little bit more.
So once I did that with both, I just went through and used this fawn color. It's another Waverly
chalk paint color, and I just hand painted this, but one other way is after this has cured a bit,
the white paint, you can cover it back up with your painter's tape, and then you can make sure
it's clean and even and just wrap it around the white areas there. But I just decided to hand
paint this, and I figured I could do it kind of quickly, but you are going to need a second coat
of this fawn color. I've noticed there were some dark spots in some places, and see that? If you
use painter's tape around it for going around and painting this color, then you won't need to worry
about messing up. So that is one alternative. So I found this Mod Podge in matte. You can use,
obviously, gloss or matte, doesn't matter, but I found this at my Dollar Tree, and I was so happy
that the matte was back in store because I prefer it. I don't really like the shiny look of Mod Podge.
So the reason I'm putting this into the neck of the tea light jar, whatever you want to call it,
is because I want to make sure to protect the paint when the rope goes back on it,
the metal piece is going to scrape against the paint, and I just want to make sure it's not
going to mess up my paint over time. So it just fits right back into place, super easy to put back
on, and there we go. It's almost finished. Now we just need a finishing touch, and guys, this is so
quick. This is such an easy, super quick DIY. We're just going to use some hot glue, and I got these
little starfish from a little kit that I found at Michael's. I kind of found this in their, like,
beach section, and you just glue that in the middle of both, and they're all good to go.
This was such a quick DIY. I absolutely love it, you guys. So easy to make. Next, if they don't have
any of those coastal signs back in stores yet, which I don't know if they will this year, I just
decided to go through and find a sign for my crafting stash, but I also found these kind of
near the floral section. Some of my dollar trees, if you kind of hunt in the back, you can find some
of these old signs, and I was lucky enough to do so. So there was a large star. Pumpkin has to do
an inspection first, but there was a large starfish in this, like, starfish kit that I found from
Michael's, and I want to say it was only about, like, maybe three or four bucks for all of the starfish
you get in it, and I thought this one was perfect to replace what was in the middle of this sign.
And then I wanted to make sure to make some color pop on this, because it already has this awesome
blue color, but I figured maybe some oranges and purples. I was panicking. I thought she was gonna,
like, touch the hot glue gun, and I didn't want her to get hurt, so that's why I was flailing.
So I decided to play around with some some shells and see what colors would work well next to the
starfish. So I kind of did a mix of shells and some smaller starfish, but I ended up liking the ones
that I picked better. But I was gonna, I was gonna do, like, like, flat shells all the way around, but
I decided not to. So I did a mix of it, and these shells are so unreal looking. They're so pretty.
They almost look like they're painted on. They don't look real, but I'm so glad I found these.
And I got these shells, except for the starfish, I got these shells in those little bags of seashells
that Dollar Tree has. If you look over in the floral section, they have these really old bags
of seashells, and I've, I've accumulated a lot over time. So this is where I'm kind of pulling
from a mix of my stash, and then I was able to find them recently in stores, and I just felt like I had
a great inventory to work from. I really wanted to put fishnet on something. I found this fishnet
from Michael's, and I thought this was perfect. And for a sign like this, you really want it to
look beachy and coastal, so I was like, you know what, let's just take off the the rope of this,
and this is no longer going to be a hanging sign, and we're just going to kind of
make a slider sign that can just kind of lay horizontally. So like I said, this is fishnet
from Michael's, and they have a whole, like, I want to say three or four different kinds, but
it's not cheap, so I grabbed the cheapest one that they had. I'm wondering if you might be able to
find more of that on Amazon cheaper, and I'm going to look for a link for you guys and see if there's a
cheaper one than this, and I will link it down for you guys below. So this was definitely difficult,
but the trick was just cut, obviously, each individual rope. I know it takes time, but when
you get a whole bunch of it in there in your scissors together, it just won't cut, so you just
kind of have to cut through each little rope individually. Then I grabbed these jumbo popsicle
sticks. I found these at Walmart, and I thought this would hold it in place, and unfortunately,
where you lay it, it does cover up the hole, so this has to kind of be more of a laying sign if
you do it this way, but I just used a lot, a lot of hot glue because I didn't want to glue down each
individual part of this net. I was like, I need something to kind of cluster it all together and
hold it in one spot, so just go heavy on the hot glue if you want to use the jumbo popsicle stick
method. So hard not to hot glue myself. And then just to cover up that hole, I used the knot in the
rope, and that fit perfectly there, and it was a great cover-up technique, and I did that on the
other side as well. Sorry for the background noise. There's a little bit of construction going on
outside from my neighbors. It really just kind of lays over it like that, and that's the end result.
So I love how this turned out. I feel like I want to revamp my home or maybe my bathroom and turn
it into a beachy bathroom just for the summer. Okay, so this is not the last craft. This is the
second to last craft, but I found this little treasure chest looking thing at Dollar Tree,
and this is a little tiny wood treasure chest box, and we're just going to antique wax this,
and you can make it as dark as you want. We want to make it look like it was at the bottom of the
ocean or something, just really faded and just kind of messed up over time, but this is our
little pirate's treasure chest, and I'm so excited to make this, and I'm just so excited to use some
of the things that I had on hand for this craft. But I just found this recently, so I think they
restocked their little treasure box looking things. So hopefully you guys find this one too,
but it was just perfect because it kind of has the those like notches in the top, and I thought it
really did look like a treasure chest. So I took Waverly Antique Wax, and this is a makeup wipe,
and I'm just using that to more evenly distribute the antique wax around the treasure chest. I did
it from top to bottom. I ripped the sticker off the bottom, and I did it all around the entire
chest. And then also we're going to do the inside of the chest with more antique wax, and this was
the wood on this was definitely messed up, but that just added to the effect so it was perfect.
It's hard to get it perfectly around the little like metal pieces because they put glue around
that, and then the glue obviously does not take well to the antique wax. So I tried to put the
antique wax on the metal pieces as well, kind of really make it old and antique looking, kind of
rusted, and then of course we're going to antique wax the inside as well. So just take your makeup
wipe, and you can go as dark as light as you want. Obviously if you want it to be more dark, just use
just go heavy on the wax, and then if you don't want it to be quite as dark, just kind of dab off
some of the excess on paper towel. But this is another quick and easy DIY that just kind of adds
to the beach and nautical effect. And then I had these cute little pieces from Teresa BDIY. She
got them, I'm not sure where she got them, I think maybe a crafting place sent them to her, but
they are awesome for this DIY, so thank you so much. Shout out to Teresa BDIY, thank you so much
because that helped complete the look of this underwater treasure chest. And I put a seashell
in there too, but here we have some buried treasure. For my next DIY, I am taking this Dollar Tree
mermaid wire wreath form that I found over in the floral section with all the wreaths. Some of
these are still left over from the nautical DIYs that Dollar Tree dropped. I used this spray paint to
color it this aqua color, which was perfect. I wanted a color that was going to pop, so I just
quickly spray painted this. I let it cure for about 30 minutes, and then I was good to go. So
it does make it a very bright color, which is perfect. And then I took more of this fish net
that I found from Michael's, and I just wrapped it around the wreath form. And I know this is
supposed to be a mermaid wreath form, and a lot of folks have made mermaids with it, but I wanted to
make it look more like a fish caught in a net. So that was the overall aesthetic that I was trying
to go for. I just thought this net draped over it looked really cool, so I just kind of wanted to
play off of that. So then I just needed to cut down my fish net to size. Had a little too much here,
don't need all of this. So I'm just cutting through each individual rope. And then I needed to find a
way to hold all of this on here easily, so I just went with trying some jute twine. I just grabbed
a bunch of it and just kind of clumped it together, and then I wrapped my jute twine around the net
and the wire form. And I did do a double knot with the jute just to make sure it would hold.
I don't need all those extra strings. And then I just kind of swing it around and try to make sure
the jute is not shown. And then here at the top, I tried to just hot glue a bunch of it together.
I would just bunch up some of the fish net and just kind of hold it against the wire and see if
it would hold that way. And it seemed to hold up pretty good, but I wanted to hit as many sections
as I could, so I just grabbed a bunch of the fish net and just held it up against the hot glue and
the wire and just made sure it was holding before I let go. So I kept going. I just kind of spread it
across the wire form as much as I wanted to go. And then I made sure that I was gluing on the back
so none of the glue would show in the front. So I was making sure to do the hot glue on the wire
on the back and the part I wasn't showing. So this is perfect. We have a draped effect. And then with
all of these bags of seashells that I've gathered from Dollar Tree, I think it's time to use them.
So we are going to take some large shells and just kind of place them throughout. But I was like,
this section here in the middle around the part of the tail that starts, I thought was perfect
to kind of start laying some of the shells there. I don't want to do a whole lot of shells because
if you do want to hang this up on the back of a door, I probably wouldn't do this on your front
door, but you want to use some very light shells because this net and, you know, the little bit of
hot glue that you have is not going to hold a really heavy shell. So I just tried to pick the
lightest shells from the bunch. And then if the shell was on the heavier side, then I did kind of
put it where there was a bunch of netting. I thought it'd be safe. And then I did have this
large starfish from the pack of starfish that I found at Michael's that I thought was perfect
for kind of the main feature embellishment on this wreath. So I just did a hot glue,
a whole bunch of hot glue under it and around it. And then if I felt like it needed more,
I just kind of went again underneath. But I just love this starfish. And I thought, you know what,
why not add a little one too? So I just tried to put this where there was a bunch of netting.
I thought it was super cute. So I'm just going to put more regular shells. But this
wreath is so easy, you guys. It took me like just a few minutes to put this together.
And I didn't really have to wait very long for the spray paint too. That spray paint,
that Rust-Oleum spray paint was awesome because it really did cure within about 30 minutes or so.
And then it was good to go. And I didn't have to worry about it coming off on the net.
And I think we just got that from Home Depot. So really easy to find it.
One last shell and this wreath is good to go. So here's the end result. So you can definitely
hang this up on your door on the inside, maybe on your bathroom door. But I know a lot of people
like to turn their bathrooms into like a beach feature. And I do want to remind you guys that
I did pick the winners of the calendar giveaway. So if you are any of these winners, please email
me and let me send you your calendars because you are winners. So thank you guys so much for
