AI GeneratedA doctor takes a final day of exploration in Oxford to recharge before starting a demanding oncology rotation. The day involves visiting cafes, meeting international students, exploring a university library, and spending time with a friend while reflecting on the emotional challenges of a medical career.
Look, Malal is back from his work.
I want to catch up on my life, essentially.
It's 8.21 and we're in Oxford.
My doctor colleague just dropped me off here on his way to hospital because I'm off today.
He's finishing his training and moving out of Oxford, so I won't be back here again.
For that reason, I want to make the most of Oxford.
Just filming.
First of all, we're going to find a cute place to have breakfast
because there's so many nice cafes and restaurants in Oxford
that I don't have in the town that I'm working in as a doctor,
so I'm just going to make the most of it.
Fascinating. What's it called?
What are you doing here in Oxford?
We're here for the Oxford Experience at Christchurch.
This summer I'm studying democracy's demise
because I'm interested to understand the rise of authoritarianism around the world.
I'm studying the arts and crafts architectural movement.
Beth is an artist.
How do you find it compared to the U.S. in the U.K.?
Oh, I love it.
You love it?
Yeah, I watch Britbox and all those British shows.
There's something fantastical about this architecture.
You know, the U.S. is only 250 years old,
so we don't have any buildings or architecture that resembles this.
We don't have anything this old.
So lovely to meet you both and thank you for having a chat with me and coming out to meet me.
Thank you.
Lovely to meet you too.
Now tell me again the name of your channel.
Z-E-L-I-H-A.
That's my name.
C-E-L-I-H-A.
Yeah, exactly.
Oh great, we'll look for you.
Thank you.
It was a pleasure.
Bye-bye.
Do you guys like full English breakfast?
I love it.
I love it, but only once a week.
It's too much.
Too much.
It's so funny.
I get so many people coming up to me whenever I film with this camera.
People just get so curious about it.
Anyway, thanks to this camera, now two nice American ladies came up to me.
And from there, I made new friends.
And they showed me a spot for my breakfast.
Can I get iced peach tea, please?
Thank you.
Since finishing university and starting work full-time as a doctor,
one thing that feels so far away and so far removed from my reality is having months-long summer holidays.
Oh my god, I remember the days where I would not leave my room for weeks,
literally rot in my bed, play video games 12 hours a day like Sims.
When I see these students graduating, I just want to be like, make the most of it.
But it's already too late for them as well because they're literally graduating,
and they're about to enter their working era.
I guess I'll see you in September.
Have a great summer.
What's up?
It's June 30th.
It's time for summer vacation.
We don't have summer vacations here.
This is your job.
What?
They're literally setting the tables for the graduation.
Oh my god, I want to come and have a peek at the graduation ceremony later.
I bet they would have a posh graduation at Oxford.
It's the architecture in Oxford that is something else.
We're in the library now.
I'm going to try and get some work done and also experience this beautiful library one last time.
Quick life update.
I know I haven't been here in a long time because life just happens, honestly.
I've just finished another four-month rotation at the hospital.
Next week, I start oncology, which is known as cancer medicine, and it's going to be full-on.
Unfortunately, hopefully, it won't be full-on.
I'll be starting on night shifts.
Before that chaos starts up again, I want to catch up on my life, essentially,
so that with this new chapter and new responsibilities next week,
instead of getting overwhelmed, I can go into it with a new, fresh start.
By the way, to get entrance into these University of Oxford libraries, you need a ticket
or you need to be working at Oxford Hospitals as a clinician, which my colleague is.
So that's how I got my entrance.
I was exploring the library and then what do I see?
There is an underground tunnel.
Isn't that crazy?
Wow, this is literally my Harry Potter dreams.
I don't think many people know about this.
One of the most common questions I get is which camera I use for vlogging,
and throughout this whole video, I've been using this DJI Osmo Pocket 4P.
To be fair, before this, I've been using the Osmo Pocket 3 for the longest time.
I bought that before my trip to Japan in 2024, but now they have the newest edition.
It has two lenses in one tiny camera,
so you get ultra-wide shots and flattering portraits all in one device.
You know, instead of that stretched face look you get with some phone cameras,
its dedicated portrait lens keeps your face natural and well-proportioned.
The lens visually brings the background closer,
while its large aperture softly blurs it.
This helps the subject stand out and gives your shots more depth and cinematic look.
You also get 3x and 6x lossless zoom, or you can zoom up to 12x.
My favourite DJI feature, Active Track, is even smoother here,
which is super useful when you're filming alone.
And if you want to get more creative, you also get HD slow motion and D.2 for colour grading and post.
This can shoot really high quality cinematic videos, but it's still so little and tiny.
My main worry with DJI gimbal cameras, to be fair with all my electronics,
is dropping them, because look at my phone, it's full of cracks.
Especially whilst travelling, accidental damage is so common.
This is where DJI Care Refresh comes in.
It offers international warranty and replacement support.
You get access to replacement and repair services at DJI centres across the globe.
Look, Merlal is back from his work.
Welcome.
This girl has been reconnecting with nature, huh?
Thanks for joining me.
Of course.
Nice weather, huh?
You're literally leaving in a couple of days, that's crazy.
Yeah.
Probably have one last Oxford exploration before we go, right?
I've had a good exploration without you, to be fair.
Really?
How dare you?
How dare you have a good exploration without me?
I actually made friends as well.
Really?
That's so nice.
Who?
Beth and Shelley.
Two American ladies.
Americans are very extroverted, aren't they?
They will just let you approach anyone.
Yeah.
When I was in the US, travelling, there would be so many people approaching just to have a chat.
Yeah, it's not really a British thing, right?
British people are like...
Reserved.
Reserved, and they're like, okay, you're doing too much now.
Wait, look.
It's so nice.
What have you been up to?
Come on, Emelina, you know I've been saving lives day in, day out.
I'm joking, I did not save a single life.
I was just at work.
Well, that's what doctors do.
They save lives.
To be fair, most of our day is just being on the computer, ordering bloods, reviewing bloods, referrals to other specialties.
Anyway, I managed to leave early.
I knew you were having such a terrible time without me, so I had to leave early to come see you ASAP.
Although it took a little bit of a while to find you in this forest you've ended up in.
Oh my god.
Shall we get a bingsu?
Yeah, let's get a bingsu.
This girl has put me on bingsu, I can't lie.
I don't have it unless she's here, to be fair, but she's here now, so you definitely have to have it, right?
Yeah, and probably this will be your last bingsu.
In Oxford.
Unless you get it without me.
Definitely wouldn't do that.
I don't think you would do that.
I actually wouldn't, to be fair.
Just wouldn't hear the same, right?
Never.
You have to get out of this park using the world's smallest gate, by the way, so I hope you're feeling flexible.
True.
You just put a pin through the gate, you don't even have to open it.
How?
Like this?
He needs it too much.
I want either lychee or strawberry.
Let's go for strawberry.
Strawberry?
My favourite bingsu cafe.
Shall we show how tall you are?
Oh my god, you're so tall, oh my god.
Mine's got a cute little...
Oreo.
Do you want one?
Not now, but you can have it.
I'll have the other half actually.
Can I have this half?
Oh my god.
It's collapsing.
I think this mint was integral to the structural integrity of the smell.
This is very nice.
It's okay, it's okay.
I'm annoyed.
It's okay.
What do you think of this one?
It's more milky.
And much less sweet.
This is like vanilla.
It's sweet enough.
Yeah, I thought they would put some strawberry jam or something.
I love you too.
It's not bad.
It's not terrible.
You have something in your teeth actually.
Do you want to take it?
It's still there, but it's fine.
It just tastes like weird ice.
Without finishing this?
I actually feel like I'm eating ice cream.
They said strawberry is one of their most popular ones.
It had the crown on it.
You know what, I think strawberry is so popular
because it feels like a safe choice for most people.
This is something you can do at home.
The flavour profile is not very...
These are like wowed me, you know?
Flavour profile?
You know, big man word.
You can put them.
These are just Kellogg's basically, right?
Oh yeah, Kellogg's.
Kellogg's?
Kellogg's.
How do you feel about leaving Oxford
and like actually starting the speciality training that you want to do?
Which is psychiatry, right?
Strong, right?
They make us like change our jobs every four months
whilst we're in foundation training, right?
It's finally going to be one specialty for like
permanently basically.
As soon as I get my certification of psychiatry
I'm going to diagnose this girl.
I'm joking.
And you're going to be moving to your own colleges, right?
You know what I was thinking?
I just cry really easily.
I was on ENT previous to this
which is ear, nose and throat.
We had a patient who's cancer recurred
and he was made end of life.
He was just...
The guy that was rude to you as well.
Yeah, he was rude to me, really grumpy
but I just felt really sad for him
and I cried during the ward round.
And I'm thinking during oncology
I might have more of that.
So I think psychiatry or oncology
very personal and death-involved specialities aren't for me.
This girl's an empath if you can't tell.
For certain specialities
I think you need to have a bit of detachment
with your patient.
Yeah, obviously you still care about them
and everything that they go through
but you have to be a bit...
To be able to actually perform well
as a doctor you need to like...
See objectively.
Imagine you're a psychiatrist
every patient you see gives you depression as well.
It'll be a tough life, right?
So I think for you, I think we'll stay away from...
Psychiatry.
Get you out of oncology as soon as possible.
I think you're going to need a nice long break
after oncology, right?
Yeah, I'm planning on it already.
Do you want the last star?
I think you deserve that last star.
We'll be like...
We'll be like, oh no, we don't like this.
Actually, it doesn't have much flavour.
The flavour profile is a bit...
The flavour profile is lacking substantially.
Makes it clean.
I mean, it was quite nice towards the end.
It's time to say goodbye to Oxford.
Yeah.
Who knows, we might be back
at some point in the future, right?
Maybe.
Just to visit.
Though, like, I'd rather visit places
that I haven't visited before.
True, but you know,
there'll be some nostalgia here, perhaps.
To be fair, there would be.
You know, in the office, Andy says...
I wish that was the way to know
you're in the good old days
before you've actually left them.
I think this is one of the good times.
Yeah, we'll definitely be looking back
on this in the future.
Me too.
