Burson Kure documents her relocation from Nigeria to Dublin, Ireland, for university. She provides practical advice on international travel logistics, documentation, and packing, while sharing her personal experience settling into student accommodation and overcoming the initial anxiety of moving to a new country.
Welcome back to my channel. My name is Burson Kure and today we're headed to another destination.
We're heading to Dublin Island but this trip is not like the other trip. It's a bit more
tedious because I'm moving to Dublin for the next few months. So, I will try as much as possible to
take you on this trip with me. However, as you can see, I am very tired. Travelling from Nigeria
is not the easiest. Honestly, I love Nigeria but I'm going to be honest with you, it's not the
easiest. Anywho, once again, once again, my super cool t-shirt is from Burson Kure Media.
As you can see and the best part about this for me is the fact that behind me is a barcode that
leads straight to my YouTube channel for my travel. So, I will be sure to drop the link
to the place in the description. There are four main international airports in Nigeria. The one
in Abuja, Lagos, Kano and Enugu. The Nnamdi Aziki International Airport in Abuja was the closest to
me so I went there. Hi babe! You don't miss me? Travelling for leisure is one thing but if you
have to completely move your life to a new country, it's a bit difficult especially because
I had way too many suitcases. My family couldn't come with me past the gate and it was just a lot.
Let me know in the comment section if you want me to make a video on how to pack or what to pack
and I will be sure to give you all the lowdowns and some things that I see YouTubers advising you
to pack are pretty unnecessary but let me know if you want me to make a video about that.
Most international flights leave from like 10 p.m to 6 a.m. I don't know why but that's just what
it is. So, even if you get there early and you check in early, you will still have to wait but
it's better to be safe than sorry. As a Nigerian, I just go to the airport like five hours in advance
because I don't like touching stories. So, security checks done and we're heading
to the waiting area. The flight is for 7 p.m and we're going to Doha next.
I know if you're traveling abroad, you want to look pang for the pictures but seriously,
comfort is one thing you should not compromise on especially in terms of cold and temperatures.
You have a blanket for overnight flights but still going to get really chilly. Have your
jacket. Have your head warmers. If you're a person who gets really cold, also have your socks and if
you're going to stop in regions you haven't been to, just expect cold to be on the safe side.
I always enjoy watching movies and the map because I feel like the maps
give me free geography classes in real time.
Piece of advice, always use a wheeled carry-on luggage because carrying a backpack and then
having to walk through the airport can be daunting. Like your shoulder will ache,
your chest will ache. I strongly do not advise that.
Did you know that duty-free shopping originated from the Shannon airport in Ireland?
Well, you know. Anyways, duty-free is a fantastic way to get like nice products and stuff and if
you're ever in the airport, you can definitely check them out. So, if you need to get anything
whether luxury items or just regular everyday things, you could definitely get them in the
airport. There are also accommodations and pods where you can sleep and if you are also a Privileged
Club member, you have some perks. So, look on your Privileged Club card to see what benefits you have
for overnight flights. It's definitely worth paying for like the lounge. I typically would
have if I had a longer day over but I did not have a long day over.
I am boarding the Qatar flight in Dublin and so far, I will say I love Qatar first of all
because there's a lot of food. It's basically like I'm eating in my flight fare.
As you have seen in the video and I know when we took off, we had
something. Then, we had biscuits. Then, we had toast and tea. Then, we had potato porridge and
beef sauce and drinks and it just kept coming. I'm like, yeah, I'm here for it because I have
a long way ahead. So, yeah. I don't know how many hours this is. Maybe five. I can't remember. I
knew it at the beginning of this video but now I'm like, yeah, whatever. Let's just see how it goes.
Thankfully, I have just one like this is the only stop for connecting flight.
Thankfully, also I have my sim card from the one I got in Luxembourg. If you haven't seen
my Luxembourg video, check out my YouTube channel. It's Luxembourg. All the links to
that particular video will be in the description, right? So, let's hope it works because I am
currently roaming with Airtel which is pretty decent. It worked when I went to Austria. It
worked a bit when I passed by Germany. It's been working okay here. Yeah, so it's been working
okay here. That's what we do and I don't know what that is. I've never heard of the network provider
but still consider roaming as something we're going to do, okay? We always have this to keep
ourselves and grow up. I need a visibly protective kit. So, I travel with confidence. This is nose
gloves and sanitizer. I put on mine so that's handy. My nails popped off when I was trying to
gather my luggage and the initial care package I was given had sugar underneath which I learned
against thinking. I had socks, an eye mask because it was an overnight flight and
earbuds and toothbrush and toothpaste. So, yeah, we do be doing so well with the
add-ons to the flights, okay? I think I'm going to travel with Qatar more especially since the
council has trusted me the last time and Australia. Oh, also I'm here to tell you that if you're
transiting to Doha, you wear walking shoes and leave allowance. I think it's about two hours
behind Nigeria so leave allowance for the connecting flight. My flight arrived at 5.20 but we didn't get
off till like 6.30 and my other flight is 8 a.m. So, the walk time and security checks and all that
all that kind of stuff. So, I'm going to use the restroom because I got a window seat. I guess well,
I think we're here for the window seat this time. Most times I book my window seats because I don't
want to take chances in my vlog and my window seat pictures but I didn't this time because I'm like
whatever. Let's see what the Lord will do. And the Lord didn't pray for the girl. Praise Jesus.
We ate some more and some people started to cough on the flight so I decided to wear my nose mask.
I low-key get bored. Because I was coming in as a student, I had all my offer letters,
my admission letter, my proof of fees payment, my proof of accommodation
and just everything I needed was with me in a file just so when they asked me at customs,
I had it to give them and I wasn't panicking or fidgeting. I strongly advise you have all
your documents in your hand luggage just so when you get there and they ask you for your stuff,
you can just give them the paperwork they need without panicking or saying it's in your luggage
because you can't get your luggage without being prepared at customs. Very thoughtful because I
was panicking about how I'm going to get around especially because my SIM cards aren't working.
I got the orange pickle for me so yay! Now I get to take my chocolate and latte one.
It was gloomy. There was no sun but it wasn't raining. It was bright enough and that was my
very first impression of Dublin and trust me it's still the same. This was in August and it's still
the same. Even during winter, even during summer, the weather can get very gloomy and it rains at
any point in time. Welcome to Griffith Halls of Residence. This is my accommodation. It was on
campus which meant I didn't have to commute to school. It had all bills inclusive and it was
just convenient for me. I knew ahead of time that Ireland had an accommodation crisis
and Dublin was way worse so booking the students accommodation really really saved me so much
trouble when I came in because it was pretty settled for the whole duration of my stay in
school. Walking to classes was like two minutes and it gave me a chance to do other things with
This is the lighting from my window and I'm happy that it's bright and I have a view of the lawn
and of some activity but just quiet enough. So I carefully picked out this room because it was
away from traffic so I can record or play videos or voiceovers without interruption so
I feel like this was a good choice. I know, I know. I couldn't even think to chance or just
very specific because it largely affects my life. I'll link the website in the description
but there are a variety of rooms. You could get the shared one, you get the
single one, you get the one with the NC toilets and you can get the ones with shared bathrooms.
Just different allowances for different people. You buy your own detergent and your stuff so
that is not included in your rent. Don't mind that one I got it on my own. So I ordered this
before coming. The king is like king and suit. This is the room. This is the second biggest
apartment and I will be sure to drop the per weekly cost in the description. Maybe just the
link to the whole breakdown of all the rooms, the single rooms, the shared rooms and all that.
Okay that's better. So I do have plans to convert one into my recording booth but for now I'll show
you what it looks like. I'm ready to put stuff in. So these hangers came with it. Hi guys, so now we
unbox my stuff. So I don't have my unboxing equipment but I have this ring. That's what I'm
going to use to unbox it. I always knew this was going to come in handy. Thanks Batman.
The accommodation gave us the option to have them order our duvet, our pillows and just little
cutlery that you will need as someone just arriving to the country and I took that because
I knew I was going to get tired and there was no way I was going to know my way around. It was
pretty cold as well so a duvet was non-negotiable. I paid 81 euro for this and I still think it was
a decent bargain. One duvet and bed sheet. One king size pack. Just to clarify, these king size bed
pack or linen packing thingy that I paid for is yours to keep so if you're leaving you can go with it
because you paid for this one separately. So let's unpack my box. Oh yeah, so this was what I was
insured on. It's a knife, a fork, a teaspoon and a tablespoon. Then there's a tumbler, teacup, soup bowl,
small saucer and the main unit. Still part of the 81 euro pack. When moving, loads of people had
different opinions as to what to bring and what not to bring so I didn't ditch all my clothes
in Nigeria. I came with some of them and that really saved me buying stuff from scratch.
I strongly suggest, why any country honestly, if it's going to be a long flight, I strongly suggest
you get one of these box covers. I got this from AliExpress. I think it was about $5 at the time.
I'm not sure what the prices are but it's not the thickest. When my other box gets here, I'll show
you. It's way thicker. It's about $12 or so but when I put this cover, I still had the box round.
Thankfully, my foodstuff arrived. I had couriered my other bags because I couldn't come with them
and they arrived two weeks later.
I came with my plushies. That's my painting that I got from Ghana. Love that artwork.
It's impossible for me to travel light because I have to move with my recording things all the
time. As someone who moved around a lot growing up, I quickly learned it was important to take
things that were of sentiment to you when traveling because it really helped you settle
in better. Now that meant I would have a bigger luggage than anyone else but also that meant I
was able to integrate into wherever I moved to a lot faster because I always had a connection to
I got these one meter cables for my mic.
The new drain always comes with these cute stickers so I kind of always kept them.
This is a good time to put some more storage because I never have too much storage.
So this is the Razer Digital 5TB hard drive. It's been efficient. I have a few of these
incense sticks.
This is my mic. This is my outdoor mic. Also, I can keep them here for now.
I had to get a new habit watch. I will unbox it shortly.
I highly recommend using this sack to travel because it's really strong
and even the airport cannot ruin it.
Packing your foodstuff in a way that customs will not hold you
is a life skill. I promise you my mother has hacked it. I can't even take the credit.
So let me know if you want me to make a separate video as to how my mom and grandma
packed this foodstuff. There's a whole process to it including labeling it,
how to tie it and yada yada yada. Let me know if you want me to make a very detailed video
because I brought loads of my indigenous food that I knew I was going to struggle to get on this end.
I shared this apartment with three other girls. Not the room, their apartment. They had their
own separate rooms and bathroom and we just shared the common space which was the kitchen
and like the living room. Everyone had their own fridge space and freezer space and it was pretty
chill. We really got along well. It wasn't as bad as I thought because up until this point I had
had to live with random people in a house. So it's like Russian roulette. You get good people
sometimes and you get bad people sometimes. But I've only gotten good people so far so praise Jesus.
I have a complaint about the beds in this place. They all have spring in it and it's so
uncomfortable and also very heavy. Like so uncomfortable to sleep on. I think that's one
of the biggest things that took me a minute to adjust. Just how springy the bed is. Literal
springs were in the mattress. I couldn't wrap my head around why. It was an error with my duvet cover
and it didn't cover the entire bed so I just gave up because I was too tired.
Immediately, I was done setting up my stuff. I went out into the city to see what the city
felt like and let me tell you I ran into a stand selling jollof rice. If that is not
God telling me you're welcome my child. I do not know what is. I had the best jollof rice
and plantain and pepper chicken and I went to sleep and I felt less anxious about moving here
so it didn't turn out badly. I have more videos on my adventure coming up so turn on post notification.
Hi guys thank you so much for watching up until this point. If you enjoyed this video don't forget
