Michael Jackson & Bubbles Timeline (1958–2026) | The King of Pop & His Famous Chimpanzee

Michael Jackson and Bubbles became one of the most unusual and unforgettable celebrity duos of the 1980s. Michael was born in 1958 in Gary, Indiana, while Bubbles was born in 1983 at a biomedical research facility in Texas. After entering Michael’s life as a young chimpanzee, Bubbles quickly became much more than an ordinary celebrity pet - he appeared alongside the King of Pop during one of the biggest periods of Michael’s career.
From traveling internationally and appearing alongside Michael during the Bad era to life around Neverland, Bubbles became famous around the world. But chimpanzees grow enormously strong as adults, and eventually Bubbles could no longer safely remain in a human home. He later lived with animal trainer Bob Dunn before moving permanently to the Center for Great Apes in Florida in 2005.
This timeline follows Michael Jackson and Bubbles from 1958 to 2026 - from Michael’s childhood and rise to global superstardom, through the years when Bubbles became his famous companion, to their separation and the very different lives that followed. Michael died in 2009, but Bubbles’ story continued. In 2026, at 43 years old, he is still living peacefully at the Florida sanctuary, surrounded by other chimpanzees and far removed from the celebrity spotlight of his youth.
