Selena Gomez is reportedly set to produce a brand new comedy series based on this iconic
80s flick. Let's get into it.
Selena Gomez's upcoming project was just announced and let's just say it's a serious
wish come true for fans of John Hughes' classic coming of age film 16 Candles.
As reported by Variety, multiple sources have confirmed that Sel is set to produce a new
series titled 15 Candles, a half-hour comedy series about four Latinas navigating feelings
of invisibility while exploring what it means to leave childhood behind as quinceañera season
approaches. This already sounds like it's going to be amazing.
The series has been described in reports as a reconfiguration of 16 Candles' world and will
put a new spin on the original story for the next generation nearly 40 years after it was released.
16 Candles? Selena Gomez producing? Yeah, I am so here for this.
While not much else is known about the show as of now,
15 Candles has reportedly found its home on Peacock,
though it has yet to be revealed when the episodes will actually arrive on the streaming service.
This upcoming series is just another example of Selena putting on her producer hat as she
will be serving as an executive producer for the project.
A role that she's already taken on for other television shows such as 13 Reasons Why,
Selena Plus Chef, and her hit Hulu comedy series Only Murders in the Building.
On top of that, she's also set to produce her first Spanish-language series for
Univision's streaming service. Okay, Sel has officially taken over Hollywood.
And thankfully, it looks like Selena has some impressive talent helping her behind the scenes.
15 Candles will also see Sel teaming up with producers Tanya Serracho and Gabriela Revillo
Lugo, who have produced and written works like Palm Springs and A Million Little Things.
Serracho took to Instagram to hype up the show, writing,
I mean, there's still a lot of cooking left to do, but at least we can shout it from the rooftops
now. I'm sure this show is going to tug on all the heartstrings and will hopefully give audiences a
refreshing spin on the 16 Candles world while still paying homage to the Molly Ringwald-led
classic. For now, we're just so looking forward to 15 Candles and are seriously super excited to
see what's next for Selena as she continues to expand her brand into film and TV production.
