Video Summary
AI GeneratedJuan Soto is delivering a historic performance for the New York Mets, highlighted by a dominant May where he became the first NL player in two decades to hit 10+ home runs and steal 5+ bases in a single month. His elite slugging and leadership have sparked a four-game winning streak and positioned him as a top MVP candidate.
Juan Soto just did the unthinkable.
The Mets highest paid player continues to prove his worth after etching his name in
the record books once more with a month of May better than anyone in the past two decades.
Despite the injuries, the Amazons find themselves on a four game win streak and fans couldn't
be happier, especially with Soto leading the way.
So we'll go over Soto's sheer slugging only here on Mets Digest.
And happy fans, happy hosts, we have over seven and a quarter thousand subscribers here

MVP award, yes, Soto is sixth right now in MVP odds, and obviously the Mets have never
won an MVP award.

So with that, let's kick things off with the history that La Fiera made in the month of
May.
If you're not familiar, La Fiera is Soto's nickname and here it is.
Juan Soto was the first NL player this decade to hit ten plus home runs and steal five or
more bases in the month of May.
Well actually, make that the past two decades because the last time it happened was both
Carlos Beltran and Alfonso Soriano back in 2006.
And if you're not familiar, Beltran was on the Mets in 2006 and that was an incredible
season for the Amazons.
First in the National League East, nearly a hundred wins, they made the NLCS and anytime
that you can compare something from this year to a year that the Mets made the NLCS or even
the World Series or won either of those, it's pretty impressive because the Mets really
haven't made the NLCS nor the World Series too much in the grand scheme of things since
their inception in 1962.
And when you can compare something to Carlos Beltran, that's also pretty good because Beltran's
number is about to be retired later on in September.
He's going to be inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame and he's already a member of the class
of 2026 Major League Baseball Hall of Fame, the whole thing, the one that is for the absolute
best players in the history of baseball.
So pretty impressive nonetheless when you're comparing a guy like Soto to a guy like Beltran.
I know Soto is probably going to be a first ballot Hall of Famer.
He'll probably go in as a Met and this is why another historic month.
Juan Soto has hit 10 home runs in the month of May.
Only Kyle Schwarber has had more, but keep in mind he missed two games on the 24th at
Miami and the 25th against Cincinnati at home with the flu.
And he hit three of those 10 home runs after he was sick and he actually had a homer the
day before he got sick.
He was really hot in that late stretch, I would say the last week, maybe week and a
half, 10 days, give or take, of the month of May.
So maybe those two games jipped him out of an 11th or possibly even 12th home run in
the month.
But regardless, how did we get to that historic number of 10?
Of course, added with the five stolen bases.
Well, it was a grand slam that really put the icing on the cake yesterday.
Steve Gelb said, God, this guy is ridiculous.
Nine home runs in his last 15 games, the Mets first grand slam of the season.
Soto is operating on a completely different plane right now.
He's on a different planet.
He is incredible.
Before this, he broke open the game.
It was a 6-1 contest in the bottom of the six.
And of course, that 10 home runs, the ninth in the last 15 games was a grand slam to make
it 10 to one.
The Mets ended up winning the game.
They got the sweep and are now on a four game win streak.
So the question is, could it be the signature shot for possibly a sparking offense?
Could the Mets really get the spark that they wanted?
Well, we'll turn to Anthony Tacoma for this.
In his gamer, he said, three games cannot make up for the 56 that came before them.
It would be a significant stretch heading into June to call the Mets a good offensive
team.
But when Juan Soto's grand slam soared over the right center fence at Citi Field in the
sixth inning on Sunday, that being yesterday, it became possible to see a glimmer of hope.
In a sweep of the Marlins, including a 10 to one victory in Sunday's finale, the Mets
scored 25 runs.
That is above eight runs per game.
It was by far their best output in a three game series this season, nearly surpassing
the total that they put up during four game series against both the Giants and Nationals
early this year.
And remember that four game stretch against the Nationals, they scored nine or 16 runs
in a game, excuse me, including 10 in the 12th inning.
And they scored more in a three game set against the Marlins.
That's really a good sign.
This was in a article on MLB.com from Decomo titled Soto's Slam Punctuates Mets Breakout
Season at the Plate, excuse me, Series at the Plate.
And when we talk about the month of May and Juan Soto, the stats don't lie.
26 games played, remember that's not as many as the Mets played because he missed two with
the flu, a 281 batting average, 369 OBP, 984 OPS.
His slugging was elite.
I don't know why his slugging is not on here.
At 615, 10 home runs, 21 RBIs, 20 runs, 14 walks, five stolen bases.
He was only caught once and he even had a triple in there.
And when you turn it to his overall statistics, they honestly look even better.
According to Jolly Olive, entering today, that was yesterday before the Grand Slam.
So these stats even go up, 170 WRC plus, that's best in the National League.
That 580 slug was second, 394 OBP was sixth, 300 average was ninth, 47.6 hard hit percentage.
Nearly half the time he's putting the ball in play, it is considered a hard hit.
That was third.
His 13th home run ties him for sixth in the National League with roughly a dozen less
games played than everyone else.
Remember, not only did he miss the few because of the flu, but he had a prior injury in April,
missed a handful of games, about two to three weeks based on that.
So if the Mets get back to relevance, this man is your MVP and genuinely, I agree.
Right now, if you were to take qualified out of it, if Juan Soto was a qualified hitter,
which he will be if he doesn't end up getting hurt sometime in the future, even if he misses
a game from here and there, he will end up being a qualified hitter.
Right now, his stats are as follows.
A 305 batting average, that would be 10th in Major League Baseball, a near 400 OBP at
397, that would be tied with Ben Rice for 8th, 597 slug, that would be third, 994, nearly
a one OPS, that would also be third, 27 runs scored, 13 home runs, which is tied for 16th
in the bigs, 29 RBIs, 24 walks and 26 strikeouts, nearly a one walk to strikeout rate.
So really, really impressive nonetheless.
And additionally, when you talk about Soto, not only is he great, he's making an impact
on his fellow outfield, especially considering this is the outfield the Mets can look forward
to hopefully for the next decade with Juan Soto in left, AJ Ewing in center, and Carson
Benj in right.
So he was asked, do you mentor these kids?
How do you mentor these kids?
What do you think about it?
And he said, I don't try to be a mentor.
I try to be one of them.
I try to make them feel like they are a part of this.
They are the same as me.
They have the same voice.
It's just vibes when you talk about this New York Met offense, especially with what Soto
said later, according to Anthony Tacoma on the defensive play of the outfielders, the
rookie outfielders in Ewing and Benj, they call each other psychopaths.
I'm like, yeah, you are.
So the vibes are super high.
The Soto shuffle is somewhat back.
You see sometimes that he's doing that Soto shuffle in between pitches when he's taking
a ball.
So the vibes are really high with this Met offense.
The vibes are very high, I would say, with this Mets team overall.

So here are my Mets picks for today.
You got Juan Soto, so many different options.
You can go with about 12 Juan Soto options if you really want.
I do think he's going to get a hit because he's just on an incredible streak.
You can play even more things like the above or below on the fantasy score.
You can do runs.
You can do RBIs, homers, doubles, just about anything.
And it's not just the stars like Juan Soto.
You can get guys like AJ Ewing.
You can even get guys like Carson Bench on there.
It doesn't matter.
You can play it on PrizePix.

So I think Juan Soto very well could be the National League MVP.
That's the basis of this video.
Scorching hot month of May.
He was great in April as well with the exception of the injury.
So he's not going to be compared to as much across the league because he missed a significant
time that month, but he has had an incredible season overall.
He's been the forefront of this Met offense that really hasn't been good with the exception
of him.
In fact, it's been pitiful with the exception of Juan Soto.
So if the Mets can end up making the playoffs, I think it'd be really difficult to get to
the Braves in the standings because they are just elite and are 20 plus games over 500.
They are the first team to make it to 40 wins in all of Major League Baseball.
I think if the Mets can get a high wild card seed, i.e. not barely squeaking in as the
last playoff team, they can be the first wild card seed or maybe the second and have a better
record than I would say two thirds of the National League.
I think Juan Soto, if he continues this production, can and should be the MVP because he's carrying
a Mets team that would be probably under 500 or worse without him.
But again, the Mets are still under 500.
There's still a lot of work to do, and that's what we're going to go over in my next video
because the month of June is going to be pivotal for the New York Mets.
So stay tuned for that.
Nonetheless, Soto is awesome.
We already knew that, but unfortunately, that's all the time I have for you in today's video.
Thank you so much as always for watching and let's go Mets.
