The speaker shares updates from her farm, focusing on preparations for a family Thanksgiving photo shoot and reflections on her animals. She discusses the unusually calm temperament of her horses, attributed to positive herd dynamics, and expresses excitement and anticipation for the upcoming kidding season with her goats.
Good morning guys. Welcome to today's video. Looking everywhere for you.
Yeah, I thought you were dead laying on the farm somewhere. Trampled by a horse or something.
Trampled by a tractor. How's it going? Oh, well I would like to help you but
it's just not my forte. Do you have any of those little, what are they called,
those little strips that you tighten, that you tighten to hold things on?
You know, those little white things, zip ties? Somewhere. Do you know where?
No zip ties in the back of this truck. I've been walking around the farm this morning trying to
figure out where I'm going to set up something to take pictures on Thanksgiving. So I really like
this spot over here. Like I really like it. But if it's sunny then it doesn't work. I might try
that. I don't know. I have another spot that I'm thinking. I don't know why the chickens aren't
coming out. It's cool but not like so cool. Hi babies. So I had this idea because they're not
laying eggs yet still. So I had this idea maybe they're hiding their eggs because chickens do
that. So I decided I would look in some of their, oh look at that, I want that, places that we found
eggs before. I don't know. I don't, I don't know why they're not laying. Don't you even think about
it. Don't you even think about it. See how he puts his head down, acts like he's not following me,
and then as soon as I take a step away he turns around and comes toward me.
Watch he'll run. He's a fast runner. He's thinking about it. I've been collecting all this stuff.
The pumpkins, that stuff. Sam is going to get me more hay bales but this is what I think I'm
going to do. So even though this is not fancy or nice in any way shape or form, I was thinking I
could hang some leaves across the back of that thing because I have some of those and then we
could dress up this area, put some hay bales, some pumpkins and then have everybody sit here
because I have pictures past past Thanksgiving's. I have pictures where we're all sitting like on
stairs and I've taken some really nice pictures of the grandkids on that step before and I like
it. So I think I'm going to maybe try that. It's supposed to rain today so I don't want to set it
up too soon but soon, soon you guys. It's only three more days until we have our Thanksgiving,
our family Thanksgiving. You guys know how I've been asking everybody like for the last months,
like for the last years, ever since we moved to this house our animals got so calm, like so calm.
Oh here comes Penny. They got calm, they got quiet. The only time they're not quiet is when Penny tries
to push everybody off because she thinks I'm going to give her treats. Watch. She heard me and she is
on the move. Hi babe. Don't be mean. I don't have any treats for you today. No. Penny. Definitely
that's my fault. I get it. It's because I give her treats and she's food aggressive so my own fault.
Hi baby. Anyways so I've been asking everybody like what the heck. It's the problem. Like
that was a bit too wet Penn. So anyways I finally asked my friend who's like my resident
horse expert. She like knows everything. She's gone to school. Like she's a professional horse
person and so I finally asked her. I'm like what is it? Is it the grass? Like it will happen as
soon as we moved here. Is it because it's quieter? It's not on a busy road? And is it their age? Is
it like what the heck? Is it like they don't even act like horses. When we had our pictures taken.
I'll show you guys my my view. Okay. Oh she won't do it now but this is what it looks like.
Penny kisses me. That's why I say she's so funny.
Yep. She's a funny girl. Anyway so I asked her like what the heck is it? Why are they like when
we took our pictures? Even the photographer I asked her like were they good compared to other
horses? Because we've seen a lot of horses and they all act kind of wild. Like and not bad wild.
They act like horses. They just act like horses. Our horses don't act like horses. They just
they're just calm. Like we can take any of them, smash them together for a picture and they just
stand there. Like Sylvie was holding Lady and the two minis and the two minis were smushed up against
each other and they just stood there because they would never do anything bad. Do you have a knot in
your hair? Turn around let me see. Anyways so what my friend said was hey. Basically she said that
it's age because I asked her was it age but she said it's how quiet the herd is. She said it's
like herd dynamics. It's that they're happy in their field. There's not they're they don't fight
all the time. Yeah it looks like they fight every time I come out here because Penny fights to keep
them away from me. But that's what it is and I have been working on that for so I talk about it all
the time. Like with the goats we got rid of all the goats that caused our other goats to be anxious
and and nervous all the time. Penny you hear that? I could get rid of you. I could get rid of you for
being so mean. I don't know I like when she does that. Penny! Anyway that's what she says it is and
as soon as she said it it just felt exactly right. It just felt like that's exactly what it is. Are
you a nice boy? Look he kisses too. Come on kiss kiss kiss. See? Gabby taught him to kiss. I can
remember like 11 year old Gabby standing in front of him and him kissing and him kissing her.
Yeah it's not good for your skin I don't think. Hi baby you're so calm. He's such a calm boy. Yeah
you're getting fuzzy. Our only boy my friend I was talking to another friend
that is also a horse professional and she said you know like geldings are so much better than mares
and I said we are a mare family but you're the only boy we need one more boy one more boy for
you we need a boy for Stormy. Anyway I thought that was like really interesting and really good
to know because I've worked on that for so long like the way we have the horses right now even
though Penny seemed awful because she is awful when there's food involved like only treats when
they're out there eating she doesn't push everybody off all day and stuff but Storm can
be pushy and Penny can be pushy. Just the way we have it right now they're quiet settled horses and
I love it. Are you getting anywhere? Poor Sam has been fixing this tractor for a month. So I have
this picture from Thanksgiving's past where all of our family sits on the stairs of one of our old
the house that we started vlogging in. It's one of my favorite houses ever so it's one of my
favorite pictures ever and it's just all of us sitting on stairs. Our front steps are very narrow
so that's not going to work but I did this and we're going to get some hay bales and we're going
to put it up there and one down here maybe and I'm going to maybe string some like leaves up there to
make it more Thanksgiving like but that's probably going to be where our photo shoot is. I've taken
pictures there before. Did I already say this? I've taken pictures there before and love them
so hopefully it will work out and I do have a couple of days left so maybe I can dress it up
a bit. It poured rain all afternoon. What's the matter with you? Are you hungry? He is not even
cute anymore. You're not even cute now. I don't know why you want to be so stinky. Oh you're cute.
I know. Anyway it poured rain and we were basically stuck inside. Oh yeah that's perfect.
We went for a drive. You shouldn't do that around chore time. What time do we do chores? Six. Oh I
thought it was later than that. No. Thank you. Poor Sophie. We went for a drive and she came
downstairs and nobody was home. Usually we say like hey we're going for a drive but we were
just driving down the road for a few minutes so we thought we'll be back in a few minutes
and then as soon as we left the driveway she messaged me. Where are you? Oh where is Winston?
He didn't come. I hate when that happens. Oh he went in there? I swear I opened the door and they
all just came bursting in. Get in your bed. He's like no problem. Oh my gosh he's so fast when he
wants to be. Actually he is a fast goat. It's not even late in the season and I already feel like I
miss my animals. I go visit Penny and she's just so cuddly and sweet and in the summer we literally
just go and sit with the goats all the time and now we don't because the ground is so wet.
Come on.
Rosie's been coming up to me asking me for treats now. She looks at me for treats and then
she walks away. Did you bring apples? Oh no. I haven't even come in to sit with the baby goats
lately. We used to do that all the time but it's just been it's just been busy getting ready for
horse pictures, now getting ready for Thanksgiving. Just those few like two weeks of preparation
can really set you back with your animals but chores still don't feel bad to me. Like I still
love getting up in the morning going and do chores. I still love coming down at night and seeing our
babies. Knock on wood I feel like we've been really lucky with our babies. We've had one baby. We've
I don't know like 25 babies. How many babies have we had on this farm? Oh way more than 25.
Maybe 35. I don't know. We've had a lot of babies. We have one loss and it wasn't a sick loss. It was a
stuck baby loss but we've been really lucky. We've had very minimal sickness, very minimal
injuries. Yeah. Oh this is Button. Button never comes up to me in here. Can you get me some
peanuts Sophie or some Cheerios? Hi baby. Yes I'm getting you some treats. At least I am. She's
oh
Posh literally just tried to jump through the bar but Button is honestly really polite and quiet
like her mama. She's not a bratty baby. You're saying Winnie is the pushiest goat we have?
She's never pushy. All right we are done. We're done for chores. People literally pay for this
you guys. They pay to be able to sit and snuggle baby goats and play with bigger goats. I don't
know. It feels like I'm playing every day. That's what life feels like for me. Sophie just asked me
who are you least excited? Like whose babies are you least excited to see? And I said it's it's
Posh and I'm excited to see her babies but out of all of them like I feel like I will. I don't
like her color. I hate her color. I hate roaning. I hate I'm not a roaning kind of person so that's
the only thing I could say. I'm excited to see Crickets. What I'm most excited about is Oakley
or one of the ones I'm most excited about is Oakley because she has beautiful babies. The one
I'm most excited to see babies of is Cricket because she's not she's three. She's gonna be
three this year and she's never had a baby ever so I'm excited to see her. Oh hold on let me just
check. Oh I was giving Cricket and Toffee a treat in this little baby saw. She's smelling where I
was sitting and she's screaming because I left. But yeah Cricket is like my number one because
I dreamed that she has twins and I dreamed that one is just plain like her and one is stunning.
So we dreamed Oakley had four babies and she comes from a line of super ovulators so her
mom had four last year and she had three last year. Oakley had three last year so she could
definitely have four and I also dreamed that we have baby E. I saw like I dreamed an ultrasound
of baby goats. Oh it's starting to rain and I saw the letter E in front of it and so I was like oh
how many babies is that? A B C D E. Five babies. If one of our goats has five babies I'm done.
If one of our goats has five babies and one has four babies I'm done. Look at that.
Look at that. It's thunder. There's thunder and it was thunder and lightning all afternoon too.
But yeah like that's nine babies out of just two goats. That's nine babies out of two goats.
I'm not interested in that. I like three. I like them to have two babies or three
if it's going to prevent any kind of problems because three babies are small.
A lot of babies to help to have some boys. Yeah so yeah like we need another boy year.
No not all boys like we had that year. With our first year we had all boys like only boys.
Not a single girl but we kept five from last year. We and we sold like three girls
and then we sold all the boys but we really need like a year with a lot of boys so we're
not tempted to keep them. Uh-oh. One, two, three, four, five. I'm honestly trying to soak up these last
few days, weeks of kind of summery fall weather before it gets too cold. Like I love this is my
season. This is like the love of my life. It's raining. I know I love it. Do you love it?
There's thunder too. I know. Ellie, chill sister.
