Every week, we do the same thing.
We have the highs of winning on Sunday,
then come back down to earth on Monday, or vice versa.
The lows of a horrific loss,
easily the worst loss of the year.
Not many losses to pick from,
but the worst loss of the year.
And then you kind of level things out.
We have some stuff to talk about for sure.
And I'm going to give my unfiltered thoughts
on something that I feel like
everybody is either getting wrong intentionally
because they don't want to face the music
or they're just wrong about it i'm gonna sneeze
don't do it please i'm gonna i'm gonna run i'm gonna run
this so i don't sneeze in front of you
i think it's safe to say that my confidence
is officially shaken in the Las Vegas Raiders after
two straight losses the chiefs loss was a pretty good loss
as far as losses go the patriots loss
not so much the patriots turned their season around playing
the buffalo bills so maybe we can do the
same here as we check the markets on calci there's
also spreads here as well buffalo bills win by
over five and a half points over 52
and a half percent buffalo bills outright chance to win
right now sits at 69 which is what the market has
been set at and if i'm trading with my head
i would probably lean toward taking that but if we purchase
the yes contract for the raiders to win
and we put a crisp 25 on it the payout is 76.90
which is interesting now look if you're interested
in checking out calci you can use code all aboard to instantly get 25
when you trade 25 and the
unique thing about calci that separates it
from traditional sports books is that with Cowshie you're
not betting against the house it is peer-to-peer trading purchasing yes
or no contracts based on
the markets that the users set
and you can trade on anything from politics to movies to sports
you name it Cowshie has it go check them out would you believe me
if i told you after all that i did
not sneeze okay here's here's gonna be i'm gonna tell you
the the moral of the story of this video
of this season for the raiders i figured it out i figured it out
so gather around the campfire
and uh snuggle up snuggle up everything always regresses back
to the mean the denver broncos
last year were what 14-3
and they won like nine one score games the Chiefs the year before that
were 15-2 and they won 11 one score games like there are all
and then the next year they're not
good right things revert back
to the mean we started out offensively hot we started out
defensively hot miss me
with the easy schedule nonsense don't care about that at all because
no one thought that we were going to win any
of those games either so miss me with all that
we just got shellacked
in a performance
where the offense
was not good
and the defense
was not good
against the Chiefs
the defense was not great again
offense was pretty good
what the picture
of this team
is looking like
as of right now
it's a team around 500
a couple balls
excuse me
bounce your way
you get into the playoffs
a couple balls
don't bounce your way
you end up 7-10
okay
so that's where I think
the prism of the team
should be moving forward
I don't want to do
the whole
this was always a rebuild
we know
you're not a genius
You're not a genius to say it's a rebuild.
We understand.
We had the first pick in the draft last year.
We were the first team to draft the quarterback first overall
and then start the next year 3-0 in the history of the NFL.
Okay?
You haven't discovered some mystery by saying it's always a rebuild.
Perspectives have to shift once success happens
or once success doesn't happen.
I was operating as if we were a good team
because it was a really good competitive loss against
the Kansas City Chiefs.
I'm now operating as though we are a 500 team
because of what I just saw against New England.
And the Buffalo game is going to tell you a lot
because their offense buffalo's offense
is obviously very good their defense is not very
good they can rush the passer like us
but their secondary is suspect it can be had so if we can
move the ball up and down you'll lose a close battle
with the buffalo bills then we're back
to being like competitive 500 team
if you beat them we're back to being in the mix for the
division if you lose to them badly you can't expect me
to think that you're going to win
another game all year until you do it that's where i
am right now defensive deep dive there's a very
good article here. We're going to skim through it.
We're not going to read
the whole thing because I want you guys to go read
the whole thing. On Yahoo Sports, SB
Nation. It's by Matt Holder.
Six minute read. I like how they put the time.
You don't know how fast I can read.
How dare you assume my reading level.
Honeymoon period for Rob Leonard is
over after Las Vegas Raiders give up
45 points and lost to New England Patriots.
So he does winners and losers, right?
Loser, Rob Leonard. Three weeks ago
it looked like Leonard had revolutionized Raiders defense.
The unit was creating turnovers,
held his first two opponents, blah blah blah.
And then Drake Maye went 26 for 34,
with 76% completion percentage, 374 yards.
He had 400 yards total, four touchdowns, no picks.
In other words, Leonard got out-coached
for at least the second time in as many weeks.
The first-year defensive play caller still has time to turn it around,
but he needs to get with the analytics department
and understand what his tendencies are
to break them and to get back to keeping offenses on their toes.
Something that maybe we didn't want to admit is that forcing turnovers,
leading the league in turnovers, there's
a little bit of a fluky element to that.
it shows that you have good effort and good technique
and good tackling and good instincts but
you know the ball is also going to bounce your way
and there was a lot of forced fumbles that
you can't rely on the rest of the year I don't know
who put it this way maybe it was Kay Adams
or maybe it was Mina I think it was a female it
was Mina she said the Raiders defense is not good
but very opportunistic and I think that's the way to put it
and Robbie Leonard feels like that guy
he's a motivator, but as a tactician, a little up and down.
We don't need to call it quits on
Rob Leonard. He doesn't have the best personnel of all time.
He's got decent personnel, and it's
a work in progress.
So Robbie Leonard, you're on notice, but I believe in you.
Loser Zeke Moore,
we talked about him yesterday, but again,
come back to this. Come back to this article and read
the whole thing. Quay Walker, to be honest,
both linebackers could be listed here since Nakobe
Dean didn't play well either, but it seemed pretty clear
that McDaniels was looking to go after
Walker in the passing game,
targeting him five times for five completions in a team
by 66 yards per PFF,
on top of that the free agent signing posted a season-low 49.1 PFF
run grade and had a rare missed tackle.
Walker has been a good addition for most of the season
so far, but Sunday was certainly
a performance you'll want to forget.
So, Nickobe Dean and Quay Walker,
which is something I didn't really think about, did
not play well yesterday either.
What I'll say about that is this,
talking about things coming back to the mean, they
are better than what they played yesterday
but you're gonna have bad games, body clocked
I know I didn't give a lot of credence
to that but apparently it could be a real thing it was
raining out there and Drake Mayes
a very very very good quarterback borderline top seven ish top five
ish do I expect Nickobe Dean
and Quay Walker to look like they did yesterday for the rest of the
year no I think they're gonna bounce back
so where there are some things that I have major concerns
about like the offensive line
or Ashton Gentry I don't have these major concerns about Nickobe Dean
and Quay Walker or Robbie Leonard for that matter I
do think they're gonna be able to bounce back
Speaking of the line, Spencer Burford.
PFF grades aren't the be-all, end-all,
and they leave plenty of room for ambiguity,
but Burford posting a 0.0 on pass protection against
the Patriots is alarming.
He wasn't charged with the sack,
but five pressures aren't going to cut it.
On top of that, he earned a season-low 32.7 mark in the run game.
Not good.
Tyler Linderbaum.
To be clear, Tyler Linderbaum is far
from the Silver Blacks' biggest issue
in the trenches.
Through five weeks, the fifth-year pro has a career-low 63.1 PFF grade
after steadily sitting in the mid-to-high 70s
during his tenure in Baltimore.
The former is 18th among qualifying centers.
And he posted a season-low 50.0 grade
while giving up a sack in pass protection against the Patriots.
In fairness to Linderbaum,
this is the first sack he's given up in 2026.
I mean, you know, he'll be fine.
Colton Miller, this is a definite issue.
This is a definite issue.
He went from surrendering five pressures
in the first three games combined
to 12 over the last two.
Again, we're running back to the mean.
The 31-year-old has a track record
suggesting he can turn it around.
However, his age suggests
and it might be time for the organization
to think about the long-term plan
when it comes to protecting Fernando Mendoza,
and then he talks about the wide receivers.
So we're kind of jumping around here a little bit.
I'm actually going to bounce to the offensive line right now.
That's spelled wrong.
Offensive line, Cousins.
Cousins.
Hold on.
Cousins.
Oh, my God.
It's not letting me type it.
Cousins.
We're bouncing around.
Then we'll do Kubiak, and then we'll do Janty,
which is the thing that you're going to want to stay for.
The offensive line isn't perfect.
it's maybe a tick above league average
if not league average they've been very good so far
in protecting Kirk Cousins but been really
not good against run defenses and that's okay again
we're gonna have ups and downs
with this unit all year i wish i could still give you the rage and
energy i was feeling yesterday
but there's no point in continuing to whine and scream and yell
about what happened. You just gotta
learn from it and you gotta flush
it in the toilet. I was eviscerated
a couple years ago when I mentioned that I think
Colton Miller is getting a little older and I don't know if I
would re-sign him and that he's a little injury prone.
And I love Colton Miller. He's been awesome
for us. He's one of the last
Oakland Raiders on the team. 2018
draft class. He's not a top 5
offensive tackle. He's probably a top 10
left tackle but just like any
other above average player
he's gonna have his down moments and if you have
a down moment where Kirk Cousins is back there, it's
O-V-E-R. So there's no reason to think about benching Colton Miller
or benching Colton Miller.
Just put him on notice.
Get in the film room and we'll see now how Clint Kubiak reacts
to being shellacked. Because while, yes,
we know it's always been a rebuild, the thing to take from
it's always been a rebuild
is this is Clint Kubiak's fifth game ever being a head coach
in the regular season.
We saw him be able to coach a team wire-to-wire victory. We saw him
be able to go into a hostile-ish environment in Los Angeles
and beat a team handily. We saw him
go into a hostile environment in New Orleans and beat a team.
And when they were down 11 in the
fourth quarter, I think, in the third quarter, in the fourth quarter.
And we saw him lose a tough
game where he made some mistakes against
the Kansas City Chiefs. And now for the first time,
we've seen him have to deal with a complete and utter shellacking,
getting outcoached blowout.
and it is now up to him to figure out what
is the best way to learn from this and to move forward,
and we're going to find out against the Buffalo Bills.
I'm not expecting a win. I don't even need
a win to be convinced, but what I do need to see
is a much more buttoned up operation and a much
more competent offense and defense.
If we get shellacked two weeks in a row, again, I'm not
going to hold it against Clint Kubiak,
but I will have to accept that this little stretch that we
had was just that a little stretch of success
and that's okay you just got to accept it so we're
going to get into Gentry oh we're going to get into Gentry
because i think everybody's afraid to say
what's actually going on here
and i'm not afraid to take a stand everybody come take my hand we'll
walk this road i could do the whole thing i'm
not going to i pride myself on being honest and giving
you guys my absolute 100% real opinions on everything
and we're going to get into that
after the commercial.
All right, Tonka is in concussion protocol.
That's the one injury to report.
Obviously, yesterday was not up to our standard.
It's not we won our football.
That's the one injury to report.
Remember that when we talk about Ashton Gentry?
Look like we have a whole lot to prove to ourselves
and our fans this week.
Really looking forward to playing in front of our fans this week.
And, you know, our men, our leadership, our coaches,
we're up to the challenge, and we have to bounce back.
So I'll take any of your questions.
Clay, after the struggles with some of the offensive line,
do you think that's going to open an opportunity for Bryce and Caleb
to maybe get some reps this week?
That's a good question.
Yeah, we always want competition.
We're looking at how to get better at all positions.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Did he say Bryce and Caleb?
Bryce.
Somebody remind me on Bryce.
I would think maybe Trey Zun.
Bryce.
Yes.
They watched the video.
Wait, did he say yes in terms of competition?
You know, we're looking at how to get better at all positions.
So, yes.
I like that.
Today, watching the video
of what Fernando did, what are your takeaways?
He was prepared.
He played fast.
He got through his progressions quickly.
He knew his hot issues.
It was a solid start for him.
What do you feel like he can learn from that experience going forward?
You know, I think with any reps that you get,
it's going to make you better.
The live game reps are the best medicine.
But him just getting time with our starting offensive line
in an on-the-road environment was a very positive experience for him,
although it wasn't for us.
I think you said Kirk was still your starter,
but how confident are you for a man who had to go into a game
that's so in line that he can be okay?
That's a great question.
You're not asking when he's going to start.
You're just asking how confident you
are that if he had to start that he could.
That's why he's here.
We have a lot of confidence in him.
Kirk's a starter, and if Fernando's called upon, he'll be ready to go
just like he was yesterday.
What did you think of Kirk's game yesterday?
I just think as an offense, we underperformed.
We scored on three of 11 possessions, and it starts with all of us.
We're all in it together.
We all did not get it done.
It was over when we missed that field goal.
When we missed that field goal, the score was 14-10.
I'm not dunking.
I'm not saying Matt Gay lost the game.
He just missed a field goal.
It was 14-7 because we missed a field goal.
We didn't touch the ball again on offense,
technically, until it was 28-7.
Are there better ways that you could see he could handle pressure?
It seems like he kind of got after him yesterday.
I think I give a lot of credit to New England.
They did an excellent job.
And, you know, I just didn't have a good plan for our guys.
We didn't execute well.
We got behind early.
and we weren't able to get the run game going.
There's just a lot of reasons that that game didn't work out,
and it starts with me.
That's another thing we never say when we are evaluating a loss.
We never say, hey, the other team was also really good.
They were. They were.
I've seen the film overnight a couple of times.
Ashton's pass blocking certainly looked good to me.
Your opinion matters more than mine.
But second of all, the drops.
It's a couple weeks in a row.
Do you think it's just mental, or what do you think that would be,
and would you address both the pass blocking and the drops?
Yes, he's always been an excellent pass protector.
We count on him on third down, obviously running routes and protecting.
And, yeah, those are things that are continuing to show up
that we have to get fixed as a coaching staff.
Are there areas you need to see Mike Washington improve
to get him on the field more?
I think he needs more opportunities, and that starts with me too.
In the fourth quarter, he was in, or right before Dylan LaBeau ran in
and scored for the short touchdown, he was in,
and then the Patriots called a timeout, and then Dylan LaBeau was in.
What was the decision behind that?
Because I know you said yesterday you
wanted to get him more opportunities,
and it seemed like you would have had one there.
Yeah, you know, that was just a play that we had practiced with Dylan
and wanted to make sure that we had the guys that got the practice rep.
Going back to the offensive line,
with the run game not being up to par for a few weeks now,
are you anticipating looking to see maybe shifting some people
or putting some guys in positions that we haven't seen in a while?
Someone just asked that.
Yeah, we have to.
We have to look at everything.
We have to improve there.
And something I've been saying for multiple weeks now,
that's not getting done.
And so as a coaching staff, it just falls on me.
It falls on me to get it fixed.
I'd like to see Zune get in the mix.
Let Zune get a little mixy.
I feel like you all weren't able
to get Michael Mayer as involved yesterday.
Just myself.
I didn't give him enough opportunities.
We gave him one early in the game.
I think they had a penalty on.
So, you know, I think overall that was a game
of a lot of seven-man protections
that he was involved on.
But, you know, at the end of the day,
it's my job to get all players involved.
So when they are not involved, then it falls on me.
Would you like to – go ahead.
Todd has been flagged for a couple
offside penalties on the – you know,
on when Connors –
Stopped running the touch push.
Done sneaks.
Have you had any conversation about him with those?
What have you seen there with those couple plays so far?
Yeah, we have.
We've had many conversations with the league,
and really, at the end of the day, it's a penalty,
and it's a penalty that we have worked
on before that we did not get corrected.
So as a coaching staff,
we wore that penalty and put us in third and sixth.
With the lack of commitment to the run game,
how much did that affect what you guys were able to do
with the play action that you've had
so much success with the first four weeks?
Yeah, it took it away, and we're behind many scores most of the game.
that's going to turn into a drop-back game.
Clint, would you like to see...
Yeah, you can't have Kirk Cousins in obvious passing situations
because he's susceptible to getting hit.
Max moved around a little bit just so teams,
they have to account for looking for him
and identify him when they come to the line
just to create a little bit more.
Yeah, I think those are definitely things
as a coaching staff that we're talking about.
We've got to get him in positions to be successful
to get near the quarterback.
To go back into that, what do you think was the biggest area
you have concerns with the lack of pressure
from the defensive line yesterday?
First of all, I give credit to New England.
They did a great job of blocking us up.
There's many corrections to be had that we
were working on right now. Our defensive staff, our players,
we didn't get it done yesterday, run or pass.
I know that Ashton wants to play every single game,
but when he was questionable heading into Sunday,
you guys worked him out a little bit beforehand.
What was ultimately the decision that proved
but okay, he's good to go and giving him a lot of reps in that game.
He's healthy.
Well, you know, he practiced all week,
and after seeing him perform in the pregame,
we felt confident he could go.
You know, he's a really tough guy.
He's playing hurt.
How are you –
I think Ashton admitted himself that he wasn't 100%,
and I know nobody is at this point in the year,
but how do you plan on making sure that he's rehabbing properly
while also making sure you have the best players out in your field?
Yeah, it's just a weekly thing that we're battling with him,
with with his teammates um you know i have a ton
of confidence in our training staff they do a great
job of getting our guys available for the game
and and continuing to get them healthy and um
you know whether it's Ashton
or anybody on the roster um a lot of guys are beat up it's that
time of the year and it's up to us
and at the end of the day to make the decision if they can go or
not okay okay okay okay okay so let's just do this right now
because i think that was the quote
I believe that was the quote that I had pulled up here.
Yes.
Oh, no, no.
This is Jenty's quote.
Unless I can't run, jump, or cut, I'm playing football.
Or I'm playing.
Football is a tough game.
You're never going to be playing feeling 100%.
At the end of the day,
I just want to go out there and do it against my teammates.
First of all, I just want to say this.
I love Ashton Jenty.
He's such a good kid.
He's a very talented player.
He is a tough SOB.
He belongs in this league.
I truly believe he's going to be a top 10 running back.
I think there's an argument to be made that he is.
because his pass catching is very good.
I know he drops the ball every now and then,
but so does everybody else.
So do wide receivers.
If he's on the field,
then he's on the field.
I don't want to hear, I'm not going to call people
because the people that I hear say this,
I love watching them.
I don't want to hear that he's got plantar fasciitis
or he's got Lisfranc or he's got a ligament torn
and he's Kobe Bryant with the torn Achilles still playing.
but I don't want to hear it
we would make fun of Patriots
people for being
for saying I think Drake May might be
a little banged up still from
six months ago
now Ashton was carted off
a month and a half ago so there is
precedent to be set that he is
a little banged up but if they're
evaluating that he's good to go
then he needs to make an impact
it can't be every
single time he's injured
or it's the line or it's the play calling
or it's this or that because I stand by what I said
if Bijan Robinson or or or Jameer Gibbs were behind
this offensive line they wouldn't average
2.7 per carry and I'm sorry if that's unfair
to compare him to those two but he was the sixth pick
in the NFL draft you need to be generational
so until they come out and say he has plantar
fasciitis, and he's out for six weeks,
I'm going to operate with the information that I have.
And in the second half of the Chiefs game,
he looked a lot better than he did in the first half.
But wouldn't you think that if he was injured,
that he would be more injured in the second half
of the game than the first half of the game?
Ashton Gentry, by the way, is not the one saying
I'm playing hurt. Kubiak just said it.
I think he's protecting his guy. I think he thinks that
the offensive line is letting him down,
and maybe that he's letting Gentry down. And that's what I
love about Clint is that he's accountable.
But I'm not going to sit here and tell you
every time Ashton has a bad game, he's injured.
And every time he has a good game,
it's a walking miracle.
No, I just think that he's not playing well right now. And maybe he
is a little banged up.
And if he wasn't a little banged up, he'd be playing better.
Multiple things can be true. But right now, he looks stiff.
He looks slow. He's not breaking
tackles even like he was last year he can't get out
to the edge like Mike Washington is so I'm
just a little frustrated with people either believing
that he's truly truly hurt which
there's just the only evidence is that he isn't playing well
and that he was had a injury scare
a month and a half ago or people don't want to say
that he just hasn't been good because I just
don't think he looks good and again they could come out tomorrow
and say actually he has a broken
Bone in his foot
And then egg on my face
But until then
I'm not going to operate
Like he does
And you can call me
Whatever you want to call me
But that's
That's how I operate
That's how I operate
So
Ashton I love you
Maybe get back on the sugar
I appreciate the sugar thing
But maybe get back on it
