This video demonstrates four creative and budget-friendly DIY home decor projects using materials primarily sourced from Dollar Tree. The creator guides viewers through transforming simple items like flower hooks, scrap wood, glass jars, and cans into elegant, autumnal decorations using painting, staining, and layering techniques.
On a recent trip to the Dollar Tree, I came across
these flower hooks. They come in three different shades and I brought all of them home with me.
We're going to start with the black one. Now, once I bought them, I realized it was just a
little bit scuffed up, but no big deal. I removed the back paper from it and I'm just going to give
it a fresh coat of black paint. I'm just going to use Waverly chalk paint in the ink tone,
which is a very pigmented black, and I'm just going to cover it up with one coat.
It did cover up some of the golden edges, but we're going to refresh it here in just a bit.
While that is drying, we're going to take one of these wood blanks from Dollar Tree. They
come in different shapes, but we're going to use the oval one. I love how sturdy and heavy
duty these are. I removed the sticker and I'm going to use my electric sander to just kind
of get it nice and smooth and remove some of the splinters that it came with. And of course,
you want to wipe and dust everything so that it is nice and clean. We're going to attach one of
these sawtooth hooks to the back of it and using the screws just makes it nice and strong, sturdy.
We're going to put my gloves on and we're just going to stain the edges of the wood blank.
Once the edges were stained, I am using the Waverly chalk paint, the antiquing wax, and then
we are going to paint the top portion of it black. The reason why is because we are going to be
mod podging a calendar page from Dollar Tree. And if you don't have a darker surface, you will see
the lines from behind of the calendar. So that's why I want it to be black. So while that's drying,
now the flower is dry. So we're going to take the Rub and Buff and the Golden Tone and we're just
going to wipe the edges with it, creating that nice golden tone that it already had, but it's
nice and fresh and vibrant now. It looks phenomenal. All right, so now the wood blank is dry, so we are
going to add a layer of mod podge. It's going to be nice and not thick, but maybe like medium coat.
And then we're going to set it to the side to let it fully dry. Once dry, we're going to bring in
the page from the calendar from Dollar Tree. We're going to just place it on top, add some parchment
paper, and then iron it. The heat is going to activate the mod podge and it's going to attach.
Here's the thing. I did not place this evenly. It is tilted, okay? And I quickly noticed it, but I,
if I would have tried to remove the page, it would have just been ruined. So I'm just going to work
with it, okay? But please know that I know that it is tilted. All right, once everything was
attached, I did remove the excess paper from the sides and then I realized that the sawtooth hooks
is now on the bottom. Yeah, so we're going to remove it and switch it to the top.
This is going great. All right, we're going to finish off and we're just going to distress the
wood stain portion on the edges just a little bit. And then we're going to take the distress
ink and we're going to add a little bit on the edges, just kind of bring everything together
with the stained edge. And then we're going to lightly sand it to just smooth it out and soften
it with the light grit sandpaper. And then, of course, we want to add the flower hook. So we're
going to add it towards the bottom. We're just going to add a screw. Just make sure that the
head of the screw fits inside of the back of the flower. Once attached, I did decide to take the
again and just add a little bit on the wooden edge on the sides where the stained part is just
to kind of bring everything together. And let me tell you, it was gorgeous. It kind of brought the
flower with the wood, just all with that golden tone. And it looks stunning. Now, do I like that
it's tilted, you know, the design? No, but I think it works. The design is beautiful and it was so
fun to make. But what do you think? Let me know down in the comments. For this next Dollar Tree
DIY craft, we're going to start with a piece of scrap wood. This is a thick piece of wood that was
in my stash for a long time. I'm going to add this is school glue. Now you can add Mod Podge,
but I tried to do the crackle technique with the Mod Podge and it didn't work a few weeks ago.
A lot of you mentioned try the regular school glue and here we are. So I'm going to add an
entire layer while it's still wet. I'm going to add the paint color that I want right over it.
This was heavy. I mean, it was thick, wet, heavy. OK, so then I'm going to speed things up and I'm
just going to take my little heating tool. We're just going to dry it and you're going to start
seeing crackling. It worked much better than the Mod Podge. However, it didn't work on the entire
board. And I have no clue why, because the entire board had the same amount of glue. And then I
added the paint, but only the bottom portion, a little bit of the top crackled. And you can see
it there. Now, this is me checking if it was dry and I ended up like ruining it, but it's OK. Again,
we're working with things. Everything's dry now and we are going to take my electric sander. We're
just going to distress a bit more of those edges and everywhere else and dust it and wipe it really
well. All right. So now we're going to take the distressing and we're just going to distress
those edges, just a little edges and corners, just a bit to add a bit more of the antique look. But
all of this is optional. You can always paint it or even stain the whole board. It does not matter.
I'm going to add a ton of holes to the top portion with my drill, because I'm going to add florals
and I want to be able to have somewhere where the pick can go into. You can also add foam if you want
and attach the florals to the foam. But I just added to add a ton of holes. It's way more than
what I need, but because I wasn't sure where I was going to add them, I just added them everywhere.
All right. So now we're going to start adding some florals. It's just a little mix
of like Hobby Lobby, Walmart, Dollar Tree flowers that I had on hand.
So I'm just going to add a little glue in the hole and then just add the pick and keep adding
until I have the whole thing filled. We're almost done, but I do want to add a bow. So I'm going to
take this green ribbon. I'm going to dovetail cut the ends and then we're going to loop it like an
awareness ribbon, scrunch it in the middle, tie it with jute string, and then we're going to add a
little bit of hot glue on the back and the hot glue it towards the left side of the arrangement,
kind of like tucked in underneath. Hold it until it hardens. We're going to flip it to the back.
We're just going to add hot glue so that you don't see all that messy stem. We're going to add some
moss. This is just Spanish moss. We're just going to add it and it's just going to kind of cover it
up and make it look finished. Then we're going to add one little white pumpkin in the middle of the
bowl and to tie everything together, another one towards the right side. And that's it.
What a gorgeous arrangement and it was so inexpensive, so fun to make. I love the
distress and all the crackle, but what do you think of this one? For this next Dollar Tree
DIY craft, we're going to take this little wood round that came in a set of three and we're going
to take a can and we're going to stuff the can with some craft paper so it's nice and packed
in there. And then we're going to add hot glue to the paper, put it on the middle of the wood round
and then add hot glue all around to kind of seal both of them together because we're creating a
little hat that's going to be really cute, decorative for fall. Once all of the edges
were hot glued and dried and hardened, we're going to paint the whole thing in the Waverly
Chalk Paint in the Dusk color, which is a beautiful muted blue. It is so pretty for fall.
We're going to paint, of course, the little wood round as well as the hat or the can. And I am
going to do two coats and of course, we want to let it fully dry. And then once dry, we're going to add
ribbon around the bottom edge and we're just going to take this one. This one is from
Hobby Lobby. I know I've mentioned this. It's because they had a huge sale at the end of last
fall season and it was everything 90% off. So anyways, I got a few things. All right, so we're
going to wrap it around the base and then, of course, hot glue it and cut off any excess. And then we
are going to add a couple other ribbons. Now, you can add whatever ribbon colors you want. It does
not matter. But I did realize that I did want to distress it a bit. So we're going to use the
Distress Ink and we're just going to add a little bit of dimension. This is optional. I do like this
look, especially for fall. So we're going to do it on the edges, at the top, the bottom, and then, of
course, at the very, very top. Okay, so now we're going to move on and add this braided ribbon that
I got a long time ago, actually like five years ago at Hobby Lobby. And I'm just going to add it
to the bottom edge. This is what's going to cover up all that excess glue that we added at the bottom.
You can also use the white rope from Dollar Tree, the nautical rope. That will look very pretty.
But I have this one on hand, so why not? Then I'm going to take more ribbon. This is the burlap ribbon
that I had left over from another project. We're going to remove a few of the strands to give it a
little bit more of a frayed look. And we're going to layer it on top of the other ribbon with a
little bit of hot glue right in the center. It just adds layer and just texture. So now we're going to add
some pops of color, beautiful leaves. These are just from picks that I already had at home. We're
just going to layer them, hot glue them in, and then we're just going to add a couple extra little
things just to make it nice and pretty. And that's it. How fun is this craft? You can make this in any
color, any style you want, even black if you want to go with a little bit more of a Halloween
theme. But what do you think? Let me know down in the comments. For this next Dollar Tree DIY craft, we are
going to start with one of these glass jars. These are stunning. They're great for storage in your
bathroom, even in your pantry, but they're so fun for crafting. I removed the sticker from the bottom,
removed the lid, and we're going to wipe it really well. We're going to take some of these leaves from
Dollar Tree, remove the stem from it, and then we're just going to hot glue them to the outside of the jar.
This is temporarily because we are going to spray paint the jar and I want the shape and the silhouette
of the leaves to show, but we're just going to hot glue them and they're going to come off really
easily from the glass. I think I did three of them and then we're going to take it outside and we're
going to spray paint it. Now you can do any color. I think white would be very pretty as well, even the
blue color. Spray painting I think works the best, but you can also hand paint it if you have that.
I made sure that all the little like hot glue little webbies were off and like I said, we're
going to take it outside. I did decide to do an orange. I'm just going to spray paint it. I'm going
to try to stay very forward, you know, like spray painting it from the front rather than angles.
That way it's going to keep that leaf intact and look how stunning that looks. Of course, you have
to let it dry and it comes off really easy. All right, so now we're going to take some of this
we're just going to wrap the thread around the top just to kind of make it kind of look better
and not see that thread. You can also add any other ribbon you want or rope. It would be fine
as well. So we're just going to wrap it around and hot glue it, secure it in place. I'm going to take
some of these battery operated candles. These are tea little candles. I'm going to add three of them,
although you can add a taller one if you want, but I wanted to be able to see it through the glass
portion. So these size worked really well. All right, so I'm going to take this wood slice from
I think this one's from Amazon. I'm going to add a little bit of foam from Dollar Tree with hot glue
and then add some of the florals around the edge of it and on top of it. We're just going to fill
it in and this is going to be what will be the top of the jar. And then once I had everything
filled, aren't those colors just so pretty? Oh, my gosh. We're going to place it on top. Just
place it on top. That's it. How fun. How beautiful is this? Those tea candles look so cute. Let me
know what you think. I have another video here for you with tons more of Dollar Tree DIY crafts
inspiration. Check it out. I'll see you later and have a blessed day. Bye.
