Do you have a picky eater at home?
You can actually get them to try new foods
and eat their vegetables by making your food more fun.
I'm gonna show you how to do it with a few simple tricks.
I'm not naming any names,
but there is a certain four-year-old in my house
who has been refusing to eat his vegetables lately.
Although it's driving me nuts,
I try to avoid food battles at all costs
because they really just amplify those picky eating habits.
So what I'm doing is I'm trying to expose them
to vegetables in a stress-free way
by making them art instead of food.
So what I do is I cut up vegetables
into little shapes and I give it to him
so he can design whatever art project he wants on his plate.
So together we make our own artwork
like this adorable cucumber and carrot snake
that was just too cute to eat
or like this tomato ladybug sitting on a spinach leaf.
The other day, he actually ate an entire bell pepper
because we made it into an octopus
and glued on some edible eyeballs with peanut butter.
So when we make food art,
my kids might not always snack on it.
Sometimes they just pick it up and they smell it,
but the fact that they're being exposed to the taste,
the texture, the smell of the food,
that was all increasing the chance
that they're going to accept that food.
I don't know if you know this,
but it can take as many as 20 exposures
before a child accepts a food.
It's a lot of exposure.
And when I say accept,
it doesn't mean they're actually gonna eat it.
They might just lick it or touch it to their lips.
That actually counts.
So if playing with their food is what it takes
to get them to have that exposure
and to eventually accept these vegetables,
I'm gonna do whatever I need to do
to get through this vegetable strike.
So how about you?
