Dog's been waiting 10 months for owner to get home
Oct 3, 2026
My husband passed away December 4th.
Sadie thought he would be back and she still waits for him.
My name is Sarah and this is Sadie's story for GeoBeats.
My husband is a, he was a mine inspector
and he would go to these different mines
and he saw Sadie at the gate.
Somebody had dropped her off
and he had seen her a couple of times
and she would always come to him
and, but she was really afraid of everybody else.
And one day he was just like, do you want her?
And I was like, sure.
So he brought her home
and she was just connected to him from then on.
And she, every evening she would wait in our driveway
just for him to come home.
She knew what his truck sounded like and looked like.
She could hear it before she could see it.
You could just tell she was happy
and she would take off running around our house
and meet him back on the other side
where he always backed his truck in
and just be with him the rest of the evening.
She liked all of us, but he was her favorite.
My husband passed away in December of 2025.
He went to the hospital and then he never came back home.
He passed away December 4th and she still waits for him.
Usually in the morning, always once outside,
she'll find her a spot and just look down the road
and just wait for him to come back in.
She doesn't really look for him in the house.
She just, she knows he's not there.
She just always looks for him outside
in the driveway to come home.
It's sad because we can't explain to her
that he's not coming back.
She has a bed in our bedroom
that she always slept in.
She would come up on the bed on his side
and he would pet her before bedtime
and then she would get up and get in her bed.
She liked all of us, but he was her favorite.
I won't let her stay outside if the weather's really bad.
She has her areas that she lays at in our house.
There's one in my son's room.
She can look out the window and see the driveway.
So if I won't let her out, she goes up there and sets.
And then she'll come back down every now and then
to see if I will let her outside.
We tell her all the time that you don't have to wait.
And we've even put pieces of his clothing in the house
so she'll come back in, but she's not comfortable with that.
I did just recently get a puppy.
We've had her about three weeks now.
You can just tell she's happy to have something else
at the house to focus her time on,
but she always ends up back in the driveway
just waiting on him.
If we take her out of our yard, she doesn't like it.
She doesn't want to go anywhere.
She'll go for vehicle rides,
but she doesn't really like it.
She always wants to be back home.
