Craig Berube has officially lost his mind again, and in what has been a crazy last 24
hours, he made some ridiculous comments following a Leafs loss yesterday surrounding Joseph
Walden.
Not only has fans confused, but has fans livid, and the direction of this team is once again
obviously in question, but Craig Berube has continued to say weirder and weirder things
as the season goes along.
I'm going to break down exactly what he said and discuss what it means going forward, but
not only that, we do have some other updates following yesterday's loss.
The Leafs continue to gain points despite everyone else wanting them to tank.
You're going to want to stay tuned to the end of the video, we also have some awesome
Matthew stuff.
But before we get into it, a very quick reminder, ladies and gentlemen, hit that subscribe button.
70% of you who are watching right now aren't subscribed.
This is Craig Berube's loss of mind again, and we had a video a week or two ago about
it.
It's honestly worse at this point now, because he made a comment surrounding Joseph Walden
that not only makes no sense now, but clearly has shown that he's probably lost the room.
He's lost, I mean, he's lost me.
And yesterday's game, he played well, but tonight, in the end, I don't think I know
we need a save, whether it's OT or it's one of the breakaways.
We need a big save there.
And this was unprompted, by the way, like, you know, the reporter didn't ask him directly
about Joseph.
Well, of course, they asked him what he thinks went wrong.
I saw this there as we were talking about it, blaming this game on Joseph Walls and
saying, sure, maybe he could have saved a couple of the goals, maybe a couple of weak
ones.
The Hurricanes had 80 shot attempts, so people came out to defend Joseph Wall.
Joseph Wall has been really good.
One of the only reasons this team isn't probably in the top five right now at the bottom five,
I guess, for the draft makes no sense.
And it's clear to me in some capacity that I don't know if he's lost the locker room
or maybe he just doesn't care, I guess.
Well, Nick, I have to say that I agree with Craig Berube.
I think that you do need a save out of Joseph Wall is what an insane person would say after
something like this.
It was nice knowing you, Craig, because this is certainly one of the hills to die on of
all time after a performance like that.
And I think you made a very important distinction as well, which is nobody really asked him
specifically.
I feel like it wasn't like anybody or any of the media members were dogging on Joseph
Wall.
Like, I don't think anyone anyone is doing that at this point.
I want to get the Joseph Wall stats in a little bit as well.
It was more just what went wrong tonight, because that's really what the questions are
at this point.
Like, this season's over this.
It's so over.
Right.
So it was more about that.
And then he brings up the goaltending like the Hurricanes had 80 shot attempts, attempts.
Not all of them went on net.
But every night you're getting outshot by like 20 at this point, like 15 to 20.
It's insane.
It's absolutely insane.
Wall is not the problem and has never been the problem.
He's actually playing.
He has above average numbers this year.
And look at this.
Like the Leafs weren't in this game for a second.
And then he goes, oh, you know, like if he truly believes that Wall makes that save on
the breakaway, you win the game.
He's delusional.
He's so delusional.
At this point, I don't I don't even know how to put into words or articulate it better
than that, because that breakaway goal, by the way, Keandre Miller is a defenseman.
And you were on the power play when the Hurricanes scored that goal.
Like there's a lot that went wrong before Joseph Wall on that play.
And I can't really I have a hard time myself personally blaming goalies when they let in
goals on breakaways.
It's a breakaway.
Right.
Like it's literally a 50 50 chance.
I don't care who you are.
At that point, you're playing some pretty good shooters.
Obviously, it's a defenseman coming in on you.
So maybe that's what, you know, Brube is alluding to.
But Nick, it's so ridiculous to me.
Like, how can you every NHL team has stuff on their back end that we don't have access
to in terms of advanced analytics and different things in terms of evaluating players?
There's no I don't care what they have.
You can't look at anything that happened last night and say the goaltending was the reason
we lost.
Like, it's insane.
We're grasping at straws at this point.
He's lost the room to me clearly.
Like he has to be fired.
That's one move that I think is probably a given.
Am I crazy for thinking that, Nick?
Like, I think that's a given at this point.
Yeah, I think Brudge living might stay around.
Craig Brube is gone.
I don't really understand why he said it, but ultimately, I'm sure there was some reason
now looking at Joseph Wall and how he felt after the game, he said, I feel pretty solid,
pretty solid in that anything is looking to adjust in the one on one situations.
I mean, that's something I'll take a look at and talk with Curtis Sam for one of the
goalie coaches and get some reps to practice with.
I mean, at the end of the day here, the fact that Joseph Wall had to get asked that question
is pretty unfair to him.
Obviously, it was the question because of the fact that Craig Brube was went out and
called him out for whatever reason.
I mean, you can call out a lot of players on the team and call out half the defenseman.
You've got to call it every defenseman in some capacity this year.
And then to add on to this, and this is obviously another comment Brube made, which, again,
had fans pretty fired up, I guess.
Craig Brube on Matthew Nise, who's tied for the Leafs since in scoring, of course, since
the Olympic break, he has 11 points.
He's fine.
He came off that Olympic break and I haven't heard one thing.
So he's healthy.
And this was, of course, literally, I think, hours, maybe a day after reports came out
that he wasn't healthy and that from Matthew Nise himself saying he wasn't healthy.
So I don't know exactly what he meant with that.
I guess he's saying that he hasn't complained to him personally, Matthew Nise, that is since
the Olympic break.
And he has been playing really well.
But again, it doesn't really make a lot of sense.
Even though Matthew Nise, yes, he's playing really well.
He literally said himself that he's not quote unquote, I guess, healthy.
Yeah.
And this goes back to the whole nobody's in alignment thing.
And Nise, by the way, despite being hurt this year, having a pretty good season.
Right.
And I would not like to trade him.
We can save that for another video and talk about it.
And, you know, at Nauseam, I'm sure we will this offseason.
That's for sure.
But this comes hours.
You're right.
Hours after Matthew Nise comes out to the media at Morning Skate and says, I am hurt.
I am playing hurt.
And then Brube after the game says, well, I haven't heard anything.
So he's not hurt.
Like, there's a clear disconnect at all levels here.
And maybe Brube has just checked out because he knows he's on the way out.
And he's like, whatever.
And maybe nobody talks to each other, maybe just because he hasn't heard anything directly
from the player that he's hurt, that he doesn't think he's hurt or anything like that.
But how do you have the player come out and the coach saying something completely different?
I don't know.
It's just crazy to me at this point.
Like, I think changes should have probably been made already to avoid weird stuff like
this happening late in the season, because we still have more than 10 games to play here
in this season.
And it is so over on every single level.
There's so many problems with this team.
So it's hard to look at stuff like this and actually pick apart what any of this means,
I guess.
But I don't know how you say that.
He came out and said yesterday, it hasn't responded the way that he would have liked.
And you look at the standings now, they're not going to make the playoffs.
They're trying to get a...
I don't even know if they're trying to get a top five pick, because they keep bringing
games to overtime.
What are we doing?
So it's a crazy, crazy time right now.
And, you know, Nice came out and said, I'm hurt.
I'm going to change my regiment in the offseason.
I'm going to come back.
I should be stronger.
I should be 100%.
I do wonder if there's something to, like, I don't know how you feel about this too,
Nick.
Like, he came back this season as a fridge, right?
Like, he's 240 pounds, I think.
So maybe he loses some weight.
Maybe it's just like too heavy.
I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
Maybe he just took an awkward hit or something, right?
But maybe that's something that's talked about, you know, when they report for training camp
in September as well.
So it'll be an interesting offseason.
Obviously, a lot of these guys are going to work towards getting healthy.
I'm not sure why he's still playing, if he is that hurt, or if he's like, you know, enough
to talk about it.
But he said he came back from the Olympics that wasn't responding the way that he would
have liked, and it's still bothering him.
So that's a thing.
But I don't know.
Berube comes out and says, well, I haven't heard anything.
So he's not hurt.
Yeah.
And he's been playing really well.
Maybe that's why he wants to stay on in the season strong.
Let us know down below.
Are you as surprised as not just us, but many fans were about the comments from Craig Berube.
But a couple other things before I wrap up.
Some Jason Smith.
They actually had, I think it was on one of the news networks, had orthopedic surgeon
Jason Smith on about Osama Matthews.
This is a perfect time for him to get surgery, he's referring to.
He'll be back 100% for the Leafs next, or for the start of this next season.
And Leafs fans were pretty happy they pulled the trigger on a surgery, which I agree with
at this point.
We said in the video yesterday, I think it was yesterday or the day before.
He's in very, very good hands, obviously.
Most importantly, the surgery happened at the best possible time.
He's going to be 100% and some ahead of next season.
You can hopefully, we can maybe hope for a bounce back next year.
You look at Osama Matthews, look at, and you can see here, John Tavares, who has been struggling
heavily this year, have to hope that he's going to have a bounce back here.
There's so many things that are happening now.
Obviously, Matthew Nyes was involved in trade talks, like the season has been a roller coaster
up and down, no matter what way you look at it.
But there is, you can assume, at least I'm going to assume, that next year is going to
be different.
But they have a ton of questions.
The coach is going to get fired most likely.
You have to figure out the next coach.
You had to figure out who you're bringing into the top six.
You had to figure out who you're bringing in, and the blue line group, especially depending
on Chris Tannum's injury, OEL.
It is going to be the busiest offseason in probably, probably our lifetimes, might not
even be an understatement at this point, in a very, very long time for this team.
Well, it should be, right?
Like, are they actually going to make decisions?
That remains to be seen, obviously, but that has nothing to do with us or how anyone feels
about the team.
The organization has to do it.
But to bring it back to this, this was on Real Kipper and Bourne, so shout out to them
for having a surgeon on to talk about it, which is awesome.
But yeah, you know, a lot of what he was talking about is, if you know you need the surgery,
don't wait and try rehab.
If you know that you can come back at 100% after having the surgery and the success rate
is pretty good, right?
Like, go get the surgery then, because if rehab doesn't work, then you've delayed yourself
maybe months at that point, and then you could be missing time next season.
So he should be back 100% ready to go next season, which is pretty exciting, and we'll
see what he does.
You said, you know, John Tavares, you need to bounce back next year, right?
The beauty of bounce-back years is that we know they exist and that players can have
them.
So hopefully he does have that, and he's doing something that he rarely does in terms of
slumping that way.
So hopefully that next year is a little bit better for him, and Matthew Nyes, we'll see
what happens with that in the offseason.
I'm sure we're going to be talking about that at length as well.
But a lot of different things went wrong this season, and it's going to have to be a busy
offseason to get a couple things back on track.
So hopefully it is that way, but I think at this point, it probably starts, the first
move we're going to see, and let us know how you feel in the comments, it's got to be Borubia
at this point.
He's lost a room, and he's saying some crazy stuff.
Yeah, let us know down below what your thoughts are on this, as the Leafs continue to play
games, but the season is over in a very short period of time, and then changes can actually
be made.
