Luna is an incredibly open book to read and I'm totally gonna use that to my
advantage. When she feels stressed or happy it's really obvious just based on
her body language. So in this piece you'll actually see Luna's ears go down
or flat and this is a big communication that I do not like whatever's going on.
So I'm gonna step away and when she follows I'm gonna reward her for making
a good choice. She has the option to charge the dog which is choosing
conflict or walk away which is choosing avoidance. She chooses right with some
help from me so we reinforce that choice. You can actually see that just out of
the picture every time your ears go down I step back and she follows. This is the
retreat and treat game. Now you're seeing here that Luna is looking at the dogs
and looking away. The only reason I'm not rewarding is because no dogs are
paying attention to her and I really want to focus on dogs paying attention
to her and counter condition that. She doesn't need counter conditioning with
dogs not paying attention to her. She could care less if dogs are wandering
about around her as long as they're not hyper focused on her. But at the same
time once she stands there for a bit and does a good job then I take her out of
that situation as a relief. So playing just a little bit of bat here. Here comes
an uncontrolled situation. I'm speaking with a gentleman about dogs and over
pops another fellow with an unleashed dog which caught me and Luna a little
bit by surprise. Right off the bat I opt to control Luna by pulling her away from
this dog in hopes that my dog is communicating to the strange dog that I
want nothing to do with you and this dog will either a leave us alone or they'll
just keep walking. You can see that the food I have is a lure to the dog and it
keeps coming. So I can control my dog by controlling the strange dog. Luna's fine
with dogs as long as they don't run at her so my job is to keep this dog from
running at us and hope that the owner will call his dog away from jumping on me.
You can also see that I keep putting my body in between Luna and the strange
dog. This is to help a buffer or to help Luna so that she doesn't have to deal
with the full pressure of this dog near her. Right now Luna got excited by
the strangers but now has realized she's not close to my side anymore which is
where she feels the safest. You can see her glancing directly in my eyes four
times while I'm trying to get this dog off my leg. So I opt to ignore everyone
and leave the situation because it's the best choice for Luna right now. She wants
to know and I will give her one. As I predicted we leave and the dog keeps
coming at us. This is where you see Luna's stress start to rise. She's making
good choices and they aren't paying off. So she wants to make this dog go away
and that's when you start seeing her stiffen and snarl. She's upping her
warnings to this dog before she's going to have conflict. So in slow-mo here
you're gonna see the exact moment where Luna goes I am not liking this dog right
here. You can see the look of worry on her face and I know my dog so I
instantly need to get this dog off and get Luna the opposite side. Don't forget
