Be Safe Daddy - Hold Still
Nov 12, 2022
Carrie, hello. Hello, good morning. Very nice to meet you on the phone.
I just want to phone up and say thank you so much for sending in your photograph.
It was so touching and it's such a sensitive and tender moment between a father and a daughter.
These simple moments between loved ones really impacted everybody actually and has really
resonated with lots of people across the country. So thank you so much for sharing your photograph
and your story. Carrie, did you take the photograph?
Yeah.
Are you a photographer?
No. Well, Mark would say otherwise just because I do take a lot of pictures of the family.
It's like me. Everyone's like, mommy, please stop taking photographs.
Absolutely. But I love it and I love looking back. I think when you have children, time seems to go
into warp speed really and just a lovely thing for me. You look back and you see how much the
children have grown. And I think this has been, as you said, such a crazy... It will be one of
those things that everyone remembers, but you look back and you'll think, do we remember everything
or do we just remember all the craziness of Corona? We've done things we wouldn't have done.
You've had to adapt and do different things as a family. Working from home full-time,
homeschooling, it's a period of adaptation, I guess, for all of us. But I don't know. It's
not all negative, I think. And I think that's why this was great. I've loved looking at all
the other pictures, seeing what it means to people, I guess. And obviously, there's so many
lovely comments from all over the world, which I found touched people in a certain way. We started
it as a homework project for Poppy and you never think in a million years, I'm speaking to the
Duchess one day. So thank you. We've got a very excited little girl here. Are you going to say
hello, Poppy? Oh, is Poppy there? Hi. Hi, Poppy. I love seeing your big cuddle to your daddy.
Cuddles are very, very important. I bet your daddy took that with him and it helped him all
the way through his day at work. Your big cuddle in the morning, I'm sure, really helped him too.
Thank you. I was so scared that he would get the Corona.
Were you quite scared about it? It must have been a real worry for you.
Did you talk about it with your friends? No, just because it would hurt my feelings.
Really? If you spoke about it, it would make you feel sad?
Yeah. Did you speak about it to mummy?
Yeah. A little bit, and to daddy.
Did he have to go every morning to work as a paramedic?
Yeah, he goes some days and then he's got days off and some nights off.
When he was at home, you were very happy and then you didn't want him to go again
because you were worried about him? Yeah.
Oh, well, I bet it must have been so hard for you, Poppy,
but I bet you were very brave about it, were you?
Yeah. And are you at home from school, Poppy,
today with mummy? I'm going to school because I love learning.
Do you love learning? What's your favourite thing to learn? What do you like learning about?
Say a bit louder. Math, that's it.
You like learning? Oh my goodness me. Did you do a lot of maths over lockdown?
Yeah. Is your mummy a very good maths teacher?
Yeah. Is she? Well done, mummy.
Your image really stood out for us because it tells so much within this one image of strength
and courage and resilience and the tenderness and the importance of family, but also acknowledging
the work on the front line and the different generations as well. So thank you.
Oh, thank you. I appreciate that. Thank you very much.
It's been lovely to have a chat with you all. Thank you very much.
Thank you. Have a great day.
You too. Bye.
Bye.
