Selling the Big Issue on the streets of London
Nov 12, 2022
The fact that we've been through a pandemic and realising well that's done for the big issue but
also for homelessness, how much that's troubled everything. I felt my birthday coming up was a
good opportunity to tie something around it. I wanted to make sure that we were highlighting
something that matters to me and ever since I came here to Passage with my mother I can't
remember how old I was. Homelessness has always stuck with me as a topic and as an issue I want
to fight for and so I've done everything I can to kind of raise the profile of homelessness
and I want to do a lot more and a lot more needs to be done. But I think off the back of everyone
in, you know the pandemic, I started to kind of feel that actually this issue isn't quite as big
to tackle as we think. We can fix it. I think that's been a bit of a turning point in my head
where I've seen okay if we really want to fix homelessness, it can be done, we do it together
and there's a big team effort. It is possible to, I never want to say completely end homelessness
because it was every day something else might happen to someone but get on top of homelessness
a lot more than we have done. There's no doubt about it, more support at the sharp end is needed
definitely. What I'd like to do is build something more permanent but fixing all the other issues as
well so we can tie everyone together rather than firefighting going on and brilliantly done in
lots of other areas. Get to bring everyone together and have it a bit more streamlined
and coordinated. That's my aim to try and tackle that and therefore give the next generation
less chance of being homeless.
