Hello everyone and welcome to this new video
we are in a different location
I'm in the car because I want to talk about 3 mistakes
you shouldn't do to keep your engine and your vehicle in good condition
so I think it's a video that can interest anyone who has a car and uses it daily
but before continuing with the video I always invite you to subscribe to the channel
and leave a like if you like this type of video
and if you want more on other topics that are always more practical
let's start with the 3 things to avoid absolutely
to do with an engine during daily driving
the first advice I give you is not to pull the engine when it's cold
what does it mean?
I don't mean to pull the engine, I don't mean to go slow, to go fast
not to make a highway at an adequate speed
no, it doesn't mean that, it means to avoid sudden driving
so you have to avoid sudden accelerations, require too much power to the engine
and you also have to avoid exceeding high rpm
maybe 3000-4000 rpm for a petrol engine
2500 rpm for a diesel engine
this is important because when it's cold the oil has a viscosity
that is not what it has when the optimal operating temperature is reached
so having a lower viscosity in those moments
in that phase when it's still not hot
those parts of the engine that need lubrication to work
are at risk, they are less protected
and this is even more valid for turbo petrol or turbo diesel engines
where the turbocharger and the tachometer
run at very very high rpm
and lubrication is essential and fundamental
that it is correct and adequate to avoid breaking or inconveniences
another problem that can arise is that of project tolerances
in fact the metals, as we know, when they heat up, they dilate
now, if the engine has not entered into temperature
there will be areas that will heat up earlier than others
and this creates localized deformations
I'll also show you a practical example of what I'm saying
comparing, showing you live the parameters of this car
that I'm recording through the control unit via bluetooth
then, in this screen that I show you
there are two graphs, two values that I'm recording
directly from the control unit with the engine just turned on
in these graphs the temperature of the engine oil is shown
at this moment 27 degrees
and the friction of the green motor, the percent torque, 8%
now, I want to see with you what happens
when the engine goes into temperature
then the temperature of the engine oil reaches a minimum adequate value
to guarantee a viscosity, a correct lubrication
that around 50-60 degrees
we should already start to see some effect
on the friction of the engine, the percent torque
and let's see how these parameters change over time
so, cold, we started from about 9% percent torque
8-9%
I'll show you now, later, when the engine will go into temperature
then, about 10 minutes have passed
and the temperature of the engine oil has reached 80 degrees
and the friction value of the engine expressed in percent torque
is stabilized at 6%
so, a significant difference compared to the initial 9%
this behavior is also evidenced by the reading of the fuel consumption
in fact, I'm reading at this moment from the dashboard
a fuel consumption of 0.4 liters per hour
between 0.4 and 0.5
while initially at cold engine
we observed a value that was 0.8-0.9 liters per hour
and therefore halved
so this indicates how much the friction influences
in conditions in which the engine is not in temperature
the second advice I give you
is to never turn off the car suddenly
after long or demanding journeys
so I'm not saying you have to wait 10 minutes
after shopping
but turning off the car suddenly
maybe after a long road trip
maybe at full load
or because you stopped in a service area
can be harmful
especially with cars always equipped with turbochargers
both petrol and diesel
because in the turbocharger
very high temperatures are reached
the temperature of the oil that lubricates and cools these components
on average you find a stable temperature
maybe 100 degrees
but there are points where the oil is much hotter
there are those operating points
there are those points of the engine
where the oil reaches very high temperatures
if you suddenly turn off the car
in these moments
you can verify that the oil
reaches these very high temperatures
because it no longer goes in a circle
the oil pump stops
having turned off the engine
and therefore the oil risks to cook
that is, it loses its characteristics
that guarantee a correct lubrication
to all components
this in the long run
can drastically reduce the life of the oil
so if you don't change it
if you always do the usual maintenance intervals
maybe long
they can seriously damage the components of the engine
the third and last advice I give you
is not to sink the gas
that is, do not ask for too much power to the engine
when you are at the regime
in which this is under torque
that is, if you are at 1,000-1,500 rpm
with the engine almost at minimum
and you require a sudden acceleration
maybe with high gears
and at maximum gas
this thing is absolutely counterproductive
don't be lazy
shift gears
because adopting this behavior
meanwhile the engine does not provide you
the performance you ask for
because it goes to stall, it is under torque
and all the fuel that is injected into the engine
loses the need to guarantee
this acceleration that you are asking for
especially in diesel engines
maybe we will go deeper in other videos
they are controlled by the fuel injection
therefore the diesel
risks not to burn all the fuel
correctly in the combustion chamber
and therefore the only effect you get
is to increase emissions and fuel consumption
without getting performance and acceleration
so this can also cause
in turbo petrol engines
especially those more pushed
like the modern ones
maybe with a low cylinder
can cause pre-ignition problems
in the combustion chamber
they are very very harmful
so shift gears
and you can ask for all the performance
you want from the engine
when it is in optimal operating conditions
so that's all for this video
I hope they are useful tips
to anyone of you
who drives a car every day
