2025 Medicare Premiums and Deductibles Announced! (New Information)
1 Video View·Nov 14, 2024
The Medicare 2025 Part A and Part B deductibles and premiums are now public record,
and we're going to go through them in this video today. My name is Christian Brindle. I'm a
Medicare health plan expert and specialist, and I run a company called Christian Brindle
Insurance Services, also known as Everything Senior Insurance, and today we're going to go
over 2025 premiums and deductibles. It's a common thing that the Centers for Medicare or Medicaid
Services, also known as CMS, put out what's known as projections on what they expect the Medicare
Part A and B premiums and deductibles to be, typically a month or two before they actually
put them out, and then they put out the real numbers, and sometimes they're the same as the
projections, and other times they're slightly different. Sometimes they're way different than
the projections, and so we never quite know exactly what they're going to be. As of now,
over the past probably 72 hours of recording this video, we know what those are going to
be in stone for 2025, so let's start with Medicare Part B. In 2025, or 2024, excuse me,
the Medicare Part B premium was $174.70 a month. That was the baseline premium. Now,
if you are in a higher tax bracket and you're paying an IRMA, income-related monthly adjustment,
you might be paying more than that, but outside of that, the baseline Medicare Part B premium
in 2024 was $174.70 a month. A lot of people on Medicare don't even realize that they're paying
that, but that is the cost to be on Medicare. For most people, it's coming out of their social
security check. It's not a side of their mind. They don't even realize they're paying it,
but that is going up in 2025 to $185 flat and zero cents. Now, the Medicare Part B deductible,
this is the deductible that Medicare typically charges. Most Medicare supplements these days,
like Plan G, Plan N, do not cover that Medicare Part B deductible. The Plan F does,
but typically that's responsible to the Medicare beneficiary. In 2024, that deductible was $240
one time a year annually. In 2025, it's going up about $17 to $257. Now, typically people don't
talk as much about the Medicare Part A premiums because most people don't pay them. As long as
you or your spouse worked in this country for at least 40 quarters or 10 years, whichever you
decide to label it by, you've paid enough into FICA taxes, meaning social security and Medicare
taxes over the course of your working life in order to not have to be responsible for a premium
for Medicare Part A. But if you didn't meet that criteria, you could pay a premium for Medicare
Part A. And it varies in terms of how short of the quarters you are. But the maximum Medicare
Part A premium for 2025 is $518 a month. That's about a $13 a month jump from what it was in 2024.
Now, it could be less if you're close, but maybe short of your quarters and your credits. But the
full premium that it could be if you're dramatically short is that 518. Medicare Part A also has a
deductible. Now, this typically would only apply if you had original Medicare and nothing else.
So if you had a Medicare supplement, a majority of them, if not all of them will either pay for
this entire deductible or most of it. Medicare Advantage plans, it doesn't apply, but it does
have a deductible if you only had Medicare Part A by itself. So we'll cover that as well. In 2024,
that Medicare Part A deductible was $1,632. This typically applies to inpatient hospitalization
stays. So if you go and spend the night in the hospital as an inpatient, you would have to pay
that deductible upfront. Now that's typically for room and board. It doesn't cover even anything
else that has to do with your hospital stay. That's where it falls into Medicare Part B.
But in 2025, that deductible is going up to $1,676. So a slight increase. Now, like I said,
most people on Medicare, regardless of what plan you have, typically will not be paying for that.
But typically, if you have only a Medicare, like I said, you might be responsible for that.
Anyway, those are our numbers for our Medicare Part A and B deductibles and premiums for 2025.
What are your thoughts? Are you disappointed? Are you happy to see these numbers? Are you
pleased to see kind of the amount of increase that it was? Or do you feel like it's too much?
