But this one was all Newton direct snap to number four.
Braylon Miller scampers into the end zone for a Ram TD,
then a fake punt here. Guess what? It's going to work.
Amari and Wallace taking it all the way to the house. How about that?
Then we're going to have a little trickery from the Comets,
but it's going to be easily snuffed out by Amari and Wallace.
He picks the ball off, falls just short of the end zone on this run.
Newton wins the game 56-21.
They take the region for the first time since 2016.
A dozen Friday nights, hundreds of games across the state of Georgia
and the finale to the regular season for high school football tonight.
Some teams will move on, others will not.
Hope you got your popcorn ready. I know we do.
We got a great set of games for you tonight on High Five.
Our eyes in the sky are checking out East Paulding at South Cobb.
Then we have Olivia bouncing between two games tonight.
And then two undefeated teams
in region play battling it out between Stockbridge and Jonesboro.
You know what time it is.
Highlight Sports is in your face!
Well, Calhoun out of Daresville is in your face.
We're going to take it to the third quarter, 14-0 Calhoun.
Quarterback Trey Hawkins rolls right, finds Blaine Gross.
He scores the touchdown to make it 21-10.
Then fourth quarter, a Daresville running back,
Jonathan Bailey, gets the handoff.
And he's got an arm.
He decides to throw the ball into the end zone to Torin Hall.
Later in the fourth, Hudson Chadwick takes the handoff for Calhoun,
goes around the end zone for the score.
Go!
A very animated celebration there, pumping the chest.
Calhoun goes on to win 35-14 and wins the region.
Well, now let's head south to Heard County.
They're taking on Modell,
fourth and goal for the Heard County Braves here.
Zayden Woodley is going to break up
this pass intended for Zayden Moreland.
And the Braves' defense responds.
They drag down Collin Watson.
Behind the line of scrimmage, talk about some good defense.
Heard County first and goal, Ethan Tisdale fakes the handoff,
takes it into the end zone himself.
They go on to win 45-0, a shutout win.
How about that?
And they clinch the region title.
While the 8-1 North Gwinnett Bulldogs hosting
the 7-2 Parkview Panthers,
a win gives Parkview its first region title since 2019.
680 The Fans, Carl Wuerl and Doug Conkle are on the call.
Our Austin Haygood behind the lens in our call of the week.
Tonight, Region 7-7-A is about to explode inside a raucous dog pound.
Two scoreboard shredding offenses, and a tie at the top.
This one is pure chaos.
As the number eight Parkview Panthers take
on the number seven North Gwinnett Bulldogs
on 680 The Fans, Friday night football game of the week.
For the Parkview Panthers, they'll fake
the give to Dixon, stepping up in the pocket.
Now coming back to the left side, has some running room, 30.
25-20.
That's Greg Hart, 15, 10, 5, dives for the pylon,
loses the ball.
Did it go out of the end zone for a touchback?
No, they're going to say he stepped out at the 1,
and that might have saved Greg Hart.
Pylon, and that's when it got knocked out of his hands.
Hart hands it to the big man, JJ Brown,
lined up as the fullback for the 1-yard touchdown
run to bring the lead down.
Teams are nervous.
I think that's what that comes down to.
They're tense.
Low snap, handle blocked.
Blocked as the secondary men got a hand on it as the pressure came up,
and it is going to be a touchdown recovered in the end zone.
How about that? A final score. North Gwinnett just squeaks by 57 to 55.
The region title still to be decided.
Well, let's get over to homecoming at Maize.
Look at them all ready for tonight's game.
We're going to show you some hard hitting defense early.
Jaquavius Hill smacks down the quarterback.
That can't feel good at all.
Later, more good defense. Tucker's Andre Blackburn.
Is going to pick off this high pass in the end zone.
Nearly a touchdown.
Pointing.
Taunting.
Three plays later,
QB Jace German finds Jaden Joiner all alone for a 50-yard touchdown.
7-0.
Tucker goes on to win 28-0.
Let's head over to Dalton at Cass.
We are in your face again.
First quarter, Cass running back,
Kalel Charles takes the hands off,
busts free.
It's going to be a 65-yard touchdown,
but no, he fumbles at the eight-yard line.
It's recovered by Dalton.
Second quarter, scoreless quarterback,
Noah Rogers is going to be sacked
by Dalton to Abraham Evans.
That's going to set up a field goal.
Julian Zilla with the kick,
puts them up 3-0 at half.
Final score, Dalton 38, Cass 14.
Well, we are just getting started.
Our Olivia Whitmire hanging out in the bunker.
She was at...
Two games tonight, both very exciting.
Olivia, where did you head to first?
Yeah, Lexi, I hope you don't mind.
I actually am going to steal some of your popcorn.
I'm really hungry after my incredible two games tonight.
I kick things off in Fairburn, home of the Creekside Seminoles,
a team sitting undefeated in Class 6A Region 3,
heading into tonight's regular season finale.
Now, a win tonight would secure the region title for the Knolls,
the Woodward Academy War Eagles,
trying to spoil the party and get their sixth region win of the year.
Not to give too much of a spoiler alert here,
but we got a high scoring affair out in Fairburn.
First quarter, Seminoles have to punt it away,
backed up into their own end zone,
and they couldn't get a clean kickoff.
You blink, and the ball's back in the end zone
with Harlan Hubbs pouncing on top for Woodward.
War Eagles find the scoreboard first in this one.
Now, ensuing drive for the home team.
Savoy Nichols going to let it fly here.
And it's going to come down in the hands of Armani Hill,
an absolutely electric play from the Creekside senior duo.
Seminoles knocking on the goal line after that one,
and they tie it up with the rushing score, courtesy of Brandon Wiley.
I had a little bit of a run-in with one of the refs,
but you see the celebration here from after
the punting from Wiley, I should say.
Now it's a 14-point Creekside lead at the half.
Seminoles win big, which means it's another region championship win
for head coach Maurice Dixon and company.
But the Seminoles will be the first.
First to tell you, their job's far from finished.
Now, Creekside will start the postseason journey
to winning a second straight state championship.
Lexi, I'm going to go eat that popcorn now.
Yeah, I don't know if I'm going to share.
I don't know about that.
No, I'm hungry, too, and I'm glad you're okay after
that run-in with the ref,
and I'm sure that team will be back to business on Monday.
A lot more to come.
On High Five First, we are bringing you
the highlights from Friday Night Heights.
Check out the chopper.
Getting the highlights from North Cobb
at Marietta One of their two games.
And our Kelly Price is at the game of the week.
Jonesboro is celebrating Senior Day here at Tyra Stadium.
And they hope to celebrate a region championship,
their first since 2015.
They lead by the slimmest of margins at halftime.
We'll show you how it ends in our game of the week.
We'll
That was the most fun part of my life.
be
They call Bill Goldberg probably
the best defensive lineman in the Southeastern Conference.
right
Nothing compares to my college days.
They couldn't score.
Once a dog, always a dog, man.
back.
I'm WWE Champion Goldberg.
And high five sports is in your face.
To his favorite target, Charlie Werner.
Go, Charlie, go.
He's in there.
To Werner again.
39-yarder.
Hi, this is Charlie Werner from Raven
County, now with the Atlanta Falcons.
There's the throw, and it's Charlie Werner, the catch.
That's a first down.
High five sports in your face.
Yeah, how are we feeling tonight?
High five, friends.
So many amazing games we've seen.
And next up, we're going to talk about three teams
who are all in the same region and just have one loss.
That's Brookwood, Parkview, and North Gwinnett.
So something's got to give.
Let's head over to Peachtree Ridge at Brookwood.
In your face!
Include that love a little action
in your face action senior night for the Broncos.
Handoff is to Braden Tyson.
He bulldozes his way into the end zone for a Broncos TD.
Looking up to the sky celebrating.
QB keeper now for the Broncos.
He scores another six points for Brookwood.
And then we're going to see a field goal by number 47,
Emmanuel Jimenez.
To put the Lions on the board.
How about that?
Good game out there.
Well, now more in your face.
Absolutely love it.
Well, let's talk about the road to Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
It's going to look a little different
this year for football state championships.
The Georgia High School Association is turning to postseason rankings,
a.k.a. PSR, to determine brackets.
Rather than the top four finishers in each region making up the pool,
the top 32 teams in each class,
Regardless of region, finishers will be in, using their PSR score.
G-H-
GHSA's Associate Director Kent Morrow explains more.
We have the winning percentage of a team, which is 35 percent.
That's their wins and losses.
We look at the opponent's winning percentage,
which we call OWP, which is also 35 percent.
And then we have a third component,
which is those opponent's opponent's
winning percentage, which is 30 percent.
We take those three and add those together,
and we get 100 percent, and that's how we develop our PSR score.
Yeah, it's going to be interesting to see how that one turns out.
Well,
our chopper getting all the angles tonight on a crisp fall Friday.
South Cobb not getting anything against East Baldwin.
The Eagles quarterback bottled up here
for a fourth down in the second quarter.
Then East Baldwin's quarterback, Bode Spence,
fakes the handoff, takes it himself.
Guess what?
That makes the score 49-0.
East Baldwin, the kick is good, and they didn't stop there.
East Baldwin gets the shutout win, 56-0.
And let's go to our next chopper game.
When you're in the air, these are some of the angles you might get.
We're going to roll with it.
A little nature getting in the way of our highlight.
North Cobb in for the touchdown.
That made it 7-0.
Marietta's next drive, though.
Quarterback Jaden Whiteside can't find anyone.
He's scrambling to the sideline,
but is tackled for a loss right before he goes out of bounds.
North Cobb keeping the pressure on.
Number 8, Zach Bellew, runs it up the middle for the score.
They go on to win 28-0.
To 19. Well, it's been a long night.
We still have a long way to go. Let's chicken with Olivia
down in the sports bunker. I know you
were at a good one down in Westlake. Hopefully you got
some popcorn in between the break as well.
I didn't steal any of your popcorn, Holly. I will
admit this on the air. I didn't take any,
but I'm definitely having some whenever I get home
because I think I have some in the pantry.
Anyway, back to football. Lions and Tigers,
no bears in tonight's region showdown.
The Douglas County Tigers, they won their last three,
trying to make it four in a row as we close out the regular season.
The red hot Westlake offense.
Tough to slow down. They're averaging 44
points per game, and Westlake was already
rolling when I got there. On top,
21-7, trying to add to their lead here.
Third and long for the Lions.
You'll see a solid pickup here by
Christian Womack, but he's short of the line
to gain, and they can't convert on
fourth down. But Westlake's defense
would go to work, as they were doing early
on in this one. They get a three and out, and
as I'm running down to the other end of the field,
what do you know? A blocked punt returned
for the touchdown. Here's the celebration
from Westlake. This place was
Going out.
Absolutely crazy.
Now, the Lions went into the locker room with a 28-7 lead.
But, hey, Douglas County didn't back down.
This turned into a ball game in the second half.
Westlake holds on, though, to win it 35-28.
And, Lexi, that's really just the only downside about
this show is we can't stick around to see all
of the action like I know we wish we could.
And I just can't believe the regular season has come to an end.
I swear it was August just two weeks ago.
It's a wrap on the regular season, but not on our show, though.
Lexi, we've got lots more coming.
Yeah, thanks so much, Olivia.
Olivia, true words could not be spoken.
And you're not getting rid of us just yet.
We're going to head to our Game of the Week in Clayton County
where Stockbridge and Jonesboro meet in a region class.
You do not want to miss it.
The High Five
Sports Game of the
Week is brought
to you by Motley
Injury Attorneys.
Welcome back to High Five. Some of these players taking the field
for the last time in their high school football careers.
Others back to practice on Monday with a lot of work to do.
What a night of games it has been and we're just getting started.
One of the top games tonight was a region battle between Stockbridge
and Jonesboro. Our Kelly Price and photographer Cecily Stout bring us
to all the action for our game of the week.
The Region 4 Class 5A crown on the line in Clayco
as Jonesboro hopes to win a region title
for the first time in over 10 years.
Alex Etheridge takes the handoff
and he will not be denied the end zone
as Stockbridge strikes first.
But the extra point is blocked.
Cardinals flying in from all directions
to get their hands on this one.
So it is 6-0 in the first.
A few minutes after that,
Justin Aalto gets it to Ben Boyd streaking across the field
and picking up a full head of steam for the score.
Jonesboro does nail its extra point, so the majestic marching
Cardinals have plenty to celebrate as they take a 7-6 lead.
Later in the second quarter, Gavin Kinchin doing his best Malachi
Tony impression in that green and orange with the one-handed nab.
The Tigers clawed towards the end zone but ultimately couldn't find it.
And they miss a field goal attempt as the buzzer sounds for halftime.
This one's still 7-6.
Second half, a very different story.
Joshua Scott buying time until eyeing
Mason Freeman free in the end zone.
They convert for two, and it is a 14-7 ball game.
But the Cardinals respond.
Alto hits Ozzie and Boyd right in the corner of the end zone,
and he signals his own score.
But another extra point is blocked, so it's 14-13.
Both squads score once more,
so cue up a two-minute drive for the Tigers to end the game.
And the pass for Etheridge into that blue end zone
as Stockbridge secures the win, 27-19.
So, region champs, how's that sound, coach?
Sound great.
These guys have been working our offseason.
They did a great job tonight.
We had to battle some adversity.
I'm just so proud.
Proud for them.
Proud for them.
We put ourselves in a couple of holes, early penalties,
early a lot of touchdowns called back tonight,
but the guys did awesome in the second half.
They even had our quarterback ejected.
So, I mean, Dominic took a step up
and he played a great game in the second half as our quarterback.
Now we're chasing champs.
Someone who really showed that resilience
was Alex today in this game.
You just kept running, kept running, kept running,
scored a couple touchdowns.
What did this win say about your team?
I just honestly want to keep working,
go further in the playoffs, and go to the championship.
All right.
Well, the playoffs are next.
And right now, our Game of the Week trophy goes to you guys.
All right.
Pow.
How about that?
Great job, Kelly and Cecily.
Well, Milton will win the region with a win against Roswell tonight.
Quarterback Derek Baker finds Aidan Menser early for the score,
and they're getting it done on defense, too.
How about Key Wansley coming up with the interception
on the final play of the first half?
Then Derek Baker, the quarterback,
is going to have his third rushing touchdown of the night.
Milton wins the region.
They defeat Roswell tonight 33-26.
We're not done.
And yet on High Five Sports, just a little bit more to go.
Our Olivia Whitmire has been all over social media
to find out what everyone's been talking about tonight.
And you don't want to miss the pep rally for our Team of the Week.
We head to Rockmart High School next.
Stay tuned. We'll be right back.
Keep your hands up, keep your hands up.
High Five Sports Team
of the Week is brought to you
by Motley Injury Attorneys.
I don't think our Alex Whittler could sound any more excited.
How about that golden black?
Congratulations to our high five sports team of the week,
the Rockmart Yellow Jackets.
They brought the energy and the cheerleading on Good Day Atlanta,
celebrating their 10th straight region title
after a 56-10 victory over Lafayette last week.
Well, from our friends at Blitz,
Lumpkin hosting Franklin.
Colson Howell airs it out to Mack Powell for a 19-yard touchdown.
That made it 7-0.
And then Franklin answers back.
Max Whitworth.
Hello.
Hello.
I don't even have enough air to say how long that was.
Pass to Carson Cheek at 74-yard score.
Second quarter, Howell to Joseph Alvarez in the end zone.
Lumpkin goes on to win 35-12.
We showed you all the highlights so far tonight.
Olivia, I know you spent a lot of time on social media
finding what was going on in the universe out there.
What do you got for us tonight?
Yeah, Lexi, again, we have so many teams here
in just our little area of Georgia to cover
Can't even get to everybody, but just
a couple of highlights for you guys tonight.
Of course, we're always talking about the Buford Wolves.
They finished the season a perfect 10-0,
getting a big-time 57-0 victory over Central Gwinnett.
And the 10th win of 2026, a special one for head coach Brian Appling.
This marks career win number 100 for coach Appling.
It's kind of hard to believe it's only that many.
It seems like Buford gets 25 wins a season.
Of course, they really don't, but you know what I'm saying.
A huge congrats to coach and the rest
of the Wolves on an undefeated regular season.
Now on to the playoffs.
Now with a 53-point victory over Mount Pisgah
for the first time in program history,
allow me to introduce you to the Mount Vernon Mustangs,
a.k.a. the region champs, region champs
for the first time in program history.
So congrats to them.
Fellowship Christian picking up a win
on senior night 35-19 against Mount Bethel.
Always a huge accomplishment
when you can get the seniors a win in their final regular season game.
Lexi, I know we touched on this, some of these guys,
they're taking the field for the final time tonight.
So it's always great when we can get a win to end the regular.
And get this, Cartersville becoming the first team
in Georgia high school football history
to score 48 or more points in each of its first 10 games.
Let's just say the Purple Hurricanes,
they're a tough offense to slow down.
A perfect 10-0 for Cartersville this regular season.
And okay, guys, the wildest thing I saw tonight,
an unbelievable finish between Colquitt County and Lowndes.
Colquitt County finds the end zone
with 13 seconds left in the game to take the lead.
And the Packers, they hand Lowndes their first loss of the season.
In the regular season finale with the 23-20 victory,
I don't know if you could see it there,
but the home crowd, absolutely electric.
Lexi, and I just cannot believe the regular season
has come to a close.
Love it.
Olivia, you did a great job.
I'm going to have to spend some time
watching all those videos later.
What a night on social media and in person as well.
If you missed any of the show,
we'll get it posted for you on fox5atlanta.com.
And this was the last I-5 of the regular season,
but don't worry, we'll be back next week
for post-season coverage.
It's going to be a good one.
Of course, as always, on Friday nights,
we'll leave you with We're In Your Face.
This is Lorenzo Carter from Norcross
High School, University of Georgia.
With the Falcons.
How far is it going to be in your face?
