Developing now, she was 2,400 votes
from becoming Racine County's next sheriff.
Tonight, she's out of a job, at least temporarily,
pending ongoing investigations.
The sheriff's office tells Fox 6
that Captain Kerry Madrigal is on administrative leave.
Our Dorante Matthews is here in studio with a look at the reason why.
Yes, Sam, the sheriff's office says
the election has nothing to do with this.
Instead, her leave is pending the outcome
of a criminal investigation into someone else.
It's safe to say this hasn't
been the easiest week for Captain Kerry Madrigal.
There is already a belief that I
am the person that will do the best job.
On Tuesday's midterm election, the 26-year veteran with the Racine
County Sheriff's Office lost her race to be the next sheriff.
Now, just days later, Madrigal finds herself placed
on administrative leave.
The Racine County Sheriff's Office tells Fox 6 it has nothing
to do with the election, but it's, quote,
Pending the outcome of a criminal investigation of another individual
and pending internal administrative review
of Captain Madrigal's actions.
The statement went on to say she is not the focus
or the subject of that investigation.
In fact, her role is not specified at all,
but we do know it's related to a case that is now being investigated
by the Kenosha County Sheriff's Office.
The Racine County Sheriff's Office says Sheriff Christopher
Schmeling received relevant information and turned the case over
to Kenosha to preserve the integrity of the investigation.
The Sheriff's Office isn't saying which case,
but we do know the Kenosha County Sheriff's Office took over
a case from Racine that involves
the Union Grove High School District Administrator Thomas Johnson.
Prosecutors charged him Thursday with child pornography possession.
Court records say police got a tip
that Johnson had inappropriate contact with current or
Prosecutors say investigators later
found deleted sexual images of minors.
The complaint also says an unnamed Racine County Sheriff's
Office employee spoke to Johnson in his office about
the case before it had been assigned to an investigator.
And again, the sheriff's office has
not linked Madrigal to the Union Grove case.
We've since reached out to the Racine
and Kenosha County Sheriff's offices,
as well as the Kenosha County DA's office
to see if they'd confirm that.
We've also reached out to Madrigal and have not heard back.
Sam.
