West Meck boys basketball coach charged with felonies days before season opener
Nov 6, 2026
West Meck High School boys basketball coach Chris Yule
was arrested on Thursday on multiple felony charges,
including sexual activity with a student at the school.
A stunning turn for a program that just last season engineered one
of the biggest turnarounds in CMS history.
A full disclosure before we get into it, I graduated from West Meck.
According to an arrest warrant,
30-year-old Yule faces felony sexual activity with a student,
felony indecent liberties with a student,
and misdemeanor contributing to delinquency of a
minor. The warrant says the victim was 17 at the time
and under the influence of alcohol.
The alleged incident occurred October 10th
at Yule's Charlotte home. According to the warrant,
the teen gave investigators access to her iPad,
revealing messages about engaging in
sexual contact with the suspect while she was at his house.
Court documents report.
The messages also discussed the victim
and suspect kissing on prior occasions while on school grounds.
Yule was preparing for his second year leading the Hawks
and had quickly become one of the most
recognized names in Charlotte area prep basketball.
Last season, he was named the All-Observer Regional
Coach of the Year after guiding West Meck to an 18-10 record
and the school's first conference
championship in 18 years. That 18-10 mark was also
the program's first winning record in 15 years.
It is unclear at this time who will take over those duties
or how CMS will handle the search.
This is a developing story, so stay with us at charlotteobserver.com.
