BREAKING: Cowboys make SURPRISING signing... Cowboys sign Running Back | Dallas Cowboys News
Nov 6, 2026
The Dallas Cowboys just got great news,
and while everybody is watching the injury reports,
they also made a sneaky signing that nobody saw coming.
Rookie safety Caleb Downs, the team's leading tackler,
well, he went from not practicing
on Wednesday to now limited on Thursday.
He's still in concussion protocol,
but it's a huge step forward to him being activated
on Sunday for the game against the Colts.
PJ Locke, same story. Out of practice Wednesday,
limited today with concussion protocol.
Now, while this is not a clearance for either
of them, but it's a real first step.
And to see why it matters, you have to remember how Sunday ended.
And then, of course, there's a running back that they just added,
and wait until you hear who that is.
We all know the story. The Cowboys were in line
to get the victory against the Arizona Cardinals.
And, of course, that didn't happen. They lost 33-30
in overtime after holding a 17-3 lead at the second half.
And Tyler Allgeier was all over, 147 yards on the ground,
44 in the air, and 191 total yards.
And all but seven of those yards came after halftime.
Meanwhile, Dallas, they ran 39 times for 93 yards, just 2.4 a carry.
Javonte Williams, 56 yards on 24 carries.
Arizona tied it with a 13-yard touchdown with six seconds left.
Missed the extra point, which put us in overtime, gave us a chance,
and ultimately we flubbed it, and then they won it
with a 42-yard field goal in overtime.
And in the middle of that game, Dallas lost Jake Ferguson to an ankle,
Joey Porter Jr. to an ankle, Caleb Downs to a concussion,
and P.J. Locke got hurt late
in his first game back from IR alongside them all.
Now here's the strange part.
As we know, the offense, not the problem.
Dallas scores 27.4 points a game, seventh in the league.
Dak Prescott, balling, 2,000-plus passing yards,
14 touchdowns this season,
and a completion percentage of 65.2.
Against Arizona, he was 19 of 29 for 195 yards and one touchdown.
The defense gives up 26.6 points a game, 27th in the league,
and it has just six takeaways all season, 30th out of 32.
That tells you what lost this game.
It wasn't the quarterback, it was the defense collapsing late,
and a run game that couldn't close it out.
So when a defense that gets thin gets
two starters back on the practice field,
it's never a small thing.
Start with Downs.
He has 52 tackles this season as a rookie,
the most on the team alongside two forced fumbles.
Now he left the Arizona game with a concussion
and he's also dealing with an ankle injury.
Thursday was his first time doing drills
since he entered the concussion protocol.
Now let's take a moment again.
A rookie leading your defense in tackles
who then sits out on Wednesday
and is on the field Thursday doing individual drills
for a concussion.
That's the order things have to happen
and for him to be on the field on Sunday.
Locke matters more than his spot on the depth chart says.
The safety ahead of him, Jalen Thompson,
was with the rehab group on Thursday with a hamstring
and has still not returned from IR
or had his practice window even opened up yet.
Locke has 11 tackles this season,
and he went down late in his first game back from IR,
so getting him back isn't about numbers, it's about bodies.
Now, while limited is not a green light, it's more of yellow than red.
You're not exactly ready to get going just yet, but you're on your way.
One Cowboys reporter put it perfectly.
The injury report is still lengthy,
but there's progress with Downs and Locke.
Both still have to clear the protocol before they can play.
That decision is not on the practice board.
It's going to be what decides Sunday.
But for every step forward, there are two guys going the other way.
Now, before we get into the bad part of the injury report,
this video is brought to you by Marsman.
One of the strangest things about
getting older is you notice your energy,
focus, and recovery, they aren't what they used to be.
But it's a decline that's so gradual,
you almost don't notice until it's too late.
Now, that's where Marsman comes into play.
Marsman uses clinically dosed ingredients like vitamin D, zinc,
Now, since I've started taking my Marsman,
I've honestly felt a lot better in the stamina.
I am obviously doing a lot when it comes to,
you know, Cowboys and covering this team.

the next morning for any sort of interviews to come out.

Now back to the Cowboys.
Thank you to Marsman for sponsoring the show.
Joey Porter Jr., he was a full participant on Wednesday
after getting injured in the most recent game
versus the Cardinals.
However, on Thursday, he was limited again
with an ankle injury from that Cardinals game,
which is the opposite of what Brian Schottenheimer
said the day before.
That Porter is, quote, good this week.
What a shocker.
Brian Schottenheimer telling lies.
And after the Arizona loss, Porter said to himself,
today I just wasn't on a good leg.
He said Sunday that he's been managing
that ankle since the first game against Houston.
He's been playing through it, and now it's flaring up again.
Porter has three passes defended and eight tackles this season.
The Cowboys need a healthy version of him,
and right now they don't have that.
Then there's DeMarvion Overshawn,
limited with a hamstring and back injury,
and that hurts because he's been making
plays ever since he's came back.
An interception of Tanner McKee against
Philadelphia in his first game back
from a hamstring injury, and a forced fumble against Arizona.
Two forced turnovers in two games, and you need those turnovers
because you haven't been getting it from much other.
So the picture is simple.
Two safeties are moving toward the field,
while two defenders who were just
on the field, they're moving the wrong way.
But the signing that actually makes you
tilt your head, well, that's on offense.
It was announced earlier today that Jay Sean Corbin,
a running back the Cowboys who had had in the preseason.
Guess what?
He's side of the practice squad on Wednesday.
They had worked him out on Tuesday
and now officially signed him back on the team.
Now, a practice squad is not the active roster.
It's the first thing to get right there.
Now, here's why it's interesting.
Javante Williams has 528 rushing yards this season.
And the next running back is Tyler Goodson, who has 86 yards.
Williams has 134 of the team's 199 carries.
Eight rushing touchdowns, and he's
averaging just under four yards a carry.
It's a one-man backfield at this point.
And of course, the injuries, they've been crazy.
But also, Dallas waved a couple players.
Remember back to Phil Moffa and Jane Blue,
both draft picks from 2025 who were waived in the offseason.
And Schottenheimer, of course,
he said it was hard to see both of them go.
So Corbin isn't here because the room is full.
He's here because the room is thin.
And Corbin's whole career is a string of almosts.
Florida State, 2021,
887 yards and seven touchdowns, third team All-ACC.
Then he went undrafted in 2022, signed with the Giants,
and got elevated from the practice squad for the wildcard round.
After that, the practice squads and camps with the Panthers,
the Falcons, and the Patriots.
In 2025, he led the UFL in rushing with the San Antonio Brahmas,
514 yards at 5.3 yards a carry.
This year with the Orlando Storm,
it was 437 yards at 3.3 yards a carry.
Now Dallas has had him on the roster before.
In fact, they signed him in August, leaving him on August 30th,
and his only game here was the preseason finale against the Saints.
Three carries, 14 yards.
Schottenheimer told reporters in August
that they liked some of his quickness,
some of his twitch, his ability to catch
the ball out of the backfield as well.
Nobody has said why the Cowboys did it now,
and nobody has reported Williams hurt,
so let's not overreact just yet.
He's a depth piece, not some sort
of running back savior to fix this room.
Practice squad players, as we know, though,
can be elevated for a game without a roster move.
So if Sunday goes sideways or they feel
as though they want some extra names on there,
Corbin is one call away.
Now, if you're enjoying all the Cowboys news, make sure you subscribe.
We've got more Cowboys news coming throughout the week
and leading into the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday.
Which brings us to Sunday in Indianapolis.
The Colts are just 2-6.
They only score 20.1 points a game, which is 26th in the league,
and they give up 27.8, third most in the league.
Daniel Jones has struggled 1,500 passing yards
and five touchdowns and Indianapolis has taken 23 sacks.
Their top receiver is Josh Downs, who has 330 yards.
On the ground is where Indianapolis gets its bread.
They run for 116.5 yards a game, and of course, led by Jonathan Taylor.
So Dallas has to stop the run, too.
That's the same defense that just gave
up 147 rushing yards to Taylor Algier,
so you can only imagine what Jonathan Taylor could do to this team.
They've lost 42-7 to Jacksonville most recently, 16-10 to Minnesota,
but they also beat Washington 30-13
and Houston 19-17 in the last eight games,
so they're not really a pushover,
but definitely a team you should beat.
Now, here's the number that should matter.
Indianapolis has taken 23 sacks.
Dallas has just 15 all season, which is 24th in the NFL.
If Downs and Lock are in the secondary
and the pass rush finally shows up,
there's a real chance to flip this game on its head.
Not just a winnable game, it's a game you should win.
And it's the one where Downs and Lock,
to be clear, would be a very big thing for it.
And you zoom out even further and Dallas is 3-5,
two games behind the Giants in the NFC East.
And the schedule, it's not going to get any easier.
Three of the last nine opponents are above .500.
San Francisco at 6-1, Jacksonville at 5-2,
and of course the Giants,
who are at 4-2-1 and ahead of you in the NFC East.
And here's the stat that stings.
Since 1999, this is just the 12th Cowboy season
with three or fewer wins through eight games.
Now, that's sad, but it's not a reason to give up.
It tells you every Sunday from here is somewhat of a must-win,
and the injury report could be the difference
in a win or a loss every single week.
If Downs and Lock clear the protocol, the secondary gets two pieces back.
If Porter and Overshown aren't right,
it could go the other way with them, too.
A running back, nobody noticed, two safeties
moving forward and two defenders limited.
That's the Cowboys right now.
Progress and a lot of asterisks around them.
Comment below who's going to matter more on Sunday,
Caleb Downs or DeMarvion Overshawn.
And for now, guys, we'll see you in the next one.
Peace out.
