UN says struggling to help millions fleeing Sudan war find shelter

The United Nations on Friday said about 15.4 million people who have fled conflict in Sudan need emergency shelter and essential household items. The UN Migration Agency said aid access to displaced people is better than it used to be, but the organizations are facing funding shortages. I can definitely say we have more access and we can reach more people. And this means also that we can listen to the stories of their suffering. And this also means that we are more accountable now. We cannot say that we don't know, but we know. We have met them and we are hearing their stories. UN agencies said they had only been able to target 10% of those in need. Even getting life-saving assistance to those who need it has become increasingly dangerous. In this year alone, drones struck UNHCR vehicles and trucks twice. Our drivers survived. But every emergency shelter for more than 1,300 families went up in flames. Around 8.6 million people remain displaced within Sudan and millions have fled across borders. The many people who have returned to their areas of origins often find their houses and essential services damaged or destroyed, making it harder to rebuild their lives.
