Corner Brook's Guy Fawkes' Night was lit — for a cause
Nov 6, 2026
Guy Fawkes Night is not quite what it used to be in Newfoundland
and Labrador, but community
bonfires like this in Corner Brook
are happening all over the province on November 5th.
Now this one in particular has turned into quite a community affair
and a fundraiser
for the holidays.
We have a large community bonfire that's manned
by the fire department and we've got some
picnic tables and some small pot fires
so the kids can roast marshmallows and wieners.
And we've got some music happening with Western Audio,
they always volunteer their time to provide some music.
The restaurant is open, we've got
a hot chocolate available as well, so it's just
an opportunity for people to come out
and enjoy the good weather and Guy Fawkes night.
Oh it's a big big help for the community with the toy drive.
There's a lot of needy families around
in our area and the community helps out big time every year.
You get hundreds of families in need
each year? Oh yes, we're over in about 250 every year of like children
and families that we help out.
Everybody seems to enjoy.
We've got grandparents coming out and the young kids
and everybody in that range and everybody seems to enjoy themselves.
The little kids will get down and they'll be dancing in front
of the sound machine and it's just nice to see people get out
and enjoy themselves. It's really cool.
It's like not what I expected. It's more than what I expected.
Like the fire's bigger, you mean?
Yeah, it's like really, it's fun.
It's not cold, it's like fun.
We're at the bonfire.
And what are you doing here?
We're here with our Enbridge group.
You came as a group tonight.
And what do you like most about bonfire night?
Um, very
odd.
