Sean Sweeney just sent a serious message to the Orlando Magic,
and the timing couldn't be more important.
With this team still struggling to find consistency,
Sweeney is making it clear what needs to change.
But now Orlando faces a four-game Western Conference road trip
with some winnable games,
but the Magic must find that inner dog
if they want to climb up out of this hole.
We'll break all of this down
and more on today's episode of Magic Digest.
What's good with it? It's your big Unc Eric,
back again in the building.
Man.
We here, you know, I hope that, uh,
you had a good day that you are, you know, living
good, enjoying the fruits of your labors, working hard.
We're going to get into covering this upcoming four game magic.
Road trip that they'll be going on in the West Coast,
where they'll be facing the Phoenix
Suns, the Golden State Warriors,
the Sacramento Kings, and the Utah Jazz.
It's a good chance.
These are some winnable games,
and it's a good chance for them to get some wins in the
win column, but they could
also be trap games if the Magic do not come prepared.
We'll get into all that and more.
We do know that the magic.
You know, end up losing after they won their NBA Cup game in Toronto.
If you go ahead and look at the market for the NBA Cup,
you can see that right now.
The favorites are the Spurs and the 76ers.
And that market is brought to you by our good friends over at Kalshi.
On Kalshi, you're trading directly against other users,
not the house like traditional sportsbooks.
You're buying yes or no contracts
on the outcome of events across sports,
politics, or even the weather.
If you want to look at the Orlando Magic in the NBA Cup,
there's a 2% chance.
2%.
For them to, or 4% chance for them to win.
If you put your money on that contract,
you could turn $25 into $587, baby,
and 66 cents in cash on out.
That's thanks to our good friends over on Kalshi.

Five, that's what, thanks to our good friends over at Calshi,
Let's go ahead and get into this, man.
Sean Sweeney defines a successful road trip.
And I found these comments after his,
after that last game, that last loss.
And I didn't even really want to come in here
and do an episode on this because we know
they were playing seriously undermanned and it just, in the end.
They just did not have enough to compete,
but there was some quotes afterwards, after today's
practice, where Sean Sweeney did address some things,
and I just want to go over them with you.
He said, the biggest thing for us is building
on what we've done well and then correcting
some of the mistakes that we've made, both coaches and players.
I think that we've done a good job
of some initial building blocks and some fundamentals,
and now we've got to continue to get better at it.
And we're going to address that here in a second.
I do think, and I know this is going to sound crazy,
if you've been watching the Magic play,
especially these couple games, that you're like,
ah, man, we just, the same things.
But again, if we look at what is realistically happening,
the Magic have dealt with serious
injuries to not just, you know, a couple of bench guys,
but, you know, with Jalen Suggs
and Paolo out, that's two
of their main rotation players, two of their core.
And we know that we've been dealing with this in the past,
but it is the same thing.
You cannot win in today's NBA if you don't put your best.
Guys out there, if you're going out there,
you know, with guys who are bench guys and,
you know, second tier guys is going to be harder to win in today's NBA.
But I have seen some good processes being built.
And I think that is what we can take away from this early season.
If we can continue to build on some good processes,
developing a system,
developing a system for these players that will work for these players,
I think that is the most important thing.
Sean Sweeney also had this to say.
He said, I thought we did a real good job of fighting the entire way,
especially defensively.
So that stood out certainly.
And then offensively, I think we saw a little bit
of a let up in terms of the decision making
that we had been building and did a really good job against Toronto on.
So we've got to keep working on that, keep building on it.
And again, it's about the foundation.
Are you working towards a strong foundation
and building good habits so that every time you have
a game plan that is attackable from the first man all
the way down to the end of the bench?
There's going to be injuries.
There's going to be guys in and out of basketball.
That is today's NBA.
You're not getting teams where 15 guys are playing 82 games.
That is not realistic.
So you need to build your team.
That means roster-wise, system-wise, culture-wise, where...
You're running, you're doing something
in a way that no matter who you put out there,
you can put your best foot forward.
And that's just what we haven't seen from this magic yet.
We've seen some practices,
but they need to get better as an overall group.
And Wendell Carter actually shared some of those sentiments.
Yeah, just to say, he said this was after practice.
I think the intensity that we're playing
at is different, a lot more running.
They want us to crash more.
They want us to, it's a lot more things
in terms of what they need from our bodies.
So you can tell with this new system,
all this extra movement, that it really is about
the team just not standing around.
Waiting for things to happen is about, you know,
trying to put everybody in good movement to keep
the ball swinging. But that does take a toll on your body.
That takes if you if if guys have just
been used to standing in the corner and sitting and waiting.
Now, if you're asking them to run
around, you know, do down screens,
flare screens, pick and pops, things like that.
That takes a little bit more out of your, you know.
You're, uh, basically you're,
it just puts a little bit more wear and tear on your body.
And he goes on to say, and I think we will do that.
All these guys want us to do right,
want us to win. So I have no worries
and us picking it up and being fine by January,
February and going into the post season.
And that's where you want to be.
You want to make sure, like, yes,
if you could have started this season off, you know, 6-0
and went out there and crushed everybody, I would definitely take that.
But more importantly, we got these injuries early.
If we could get those players back
and get the team rounding in the shape around January,
February, going into the end of the season,
that's when I'd like to see the improvements.
When we look at the injury report, it is pretty familiar.
You're looking at.
Uh, Isaiah Nelson, Jalen Suggs, you know,
Jonathan Isaac, Noah Penda, Paolo, and Anthony
Black is still on the day to day.
It looks like he'll probably play tomorrow,
but for a while he probably won't be playing
in back to backs.
So just keep that in mind,
but we're going to go ahead and keep on going.
When we look at this comment,
you know, again, shout out.
To Fred, he had this to say about this bench.
If we can get this bench playing right,
because I do believe this is the time
where these guys who will be getting more moments to play
need to take advantage of their opportunities.
I've seen moments briefly here and there
from Jace Cain, Tristan Da Silva, Vooch, Goga.
But we need to see more.
We need to see guys really.
Take these opportunities to say, hey, yeah,
this may not be the role that you're going to be put
into, but when you're in this role,
we know that we can depend on you and our whole game plan
doesn't fall off. Let's just go ahead
and get into some of these road conference games. First
Verse one, Devin Booker awaits the Magic in
Phoenix, if we take a look at Devin Booker on this year,
this team is not doing very well.
They're one in five or four, I believe.
Um,
But Devin Booker, I mean, this is a guy
who could still go out and give you 20 to 25 and even more
any night, five assists.
He is not, I mean, he's hitting the three at 35%. I mean,
this is Devin Booker's numbers, but with this Phoenix team.
This team really is just all over the place.
This is a game that should be winnable for the Magic,
but they're going to go out.
They're going to have to go out and actually perform, you know.
When we look at this team, 1-4, you know,
and it really is they're only scoring 110 while giving up 118.
This is a chance for the Magic to not only get their offensive right,
but work on their defense.
Again, it could be a trap game.
That's why I'm going to say the Magic got to come out
and treat this like it is the playoffs.
They just got to.
And we keep on going.
Next, we play the Warriors and Steph Curry faces Orlando's defense.
And we just got to be honest, Steph Curry is still him.
Sorry.
Steph Curry is still that dude.
No matter how you try to bury the Steph Currys,
the KDs of the world, the LeBrons,
these guys are still amazing at their age. They're still going out.
And.
Just balling at a high level right now.
The Warriors are second in the league in threes,
fourth in three-point percentage,
fourth in free-throw percentage.
They're five and three, you know.
And it has not just been Steph.
You would have thought that, you know,
with the injuries, the Porzingis thing,
Steph would have been out there scoring,
but the team wouldn't have been doing very well.
But it's been other guys chipping in.
Brandon Podzemski has been fine this year.
The big story is the rookie, man, Axel Lindenborg.
This guy is a rangy,
lengthy guy with size who is not afraid.
He's not out here playing like a rookie trying to figure it out.
He's out there like I'm a grown man.
These dudes ain't showing me nothing.
So the Magic are going to have to go head to head with him
and show him exactly what's up.
When we look at his on and off, it's been, you know,
this is a guy who scored 22, 24 points with Curry or without him.
In fact, without Curry, he is.
Putting the team on his back like, yo, I got it, big dog.
We
Go ahead and rest.
So the Magic are going to have to really be on point
when it comes to playing Golden State.
That could be their toughest test on this road trip.
After that, then they go to play the Sacramento Kings, man.
I mean, I just don't want this to be a game where
the beam gets lit for the Magic.
So I mean, for against the Magic and the truth.
The big thing about the Kings is Darius Acuff Jr.
This kid looks like he's going to be very good,
but right now they have given him the reins
and he is having a breakout season.
You know, we're talking about 26 points, 6.3 assists,
a true shooting of 51%.
I mean, but he's really getting those attempts up.
You know, he's getting those attempts up.
His usage rate.
Is ridiculous, you know,
if you look at how that's affecting the veterans on this team,
look at a guy like Domantas Sabonis, you know,
long established big man who's giving you 15
points, almost 15 rebounds, even seven assists.
But his usage rate is pretty non-existent with.
Darius Acuff giving the keys to the castle.
Acuff's usage rate is approximately 32.3%.
I mean, that's up there with like the Lucas,
the Shays, those type of guys.
Sabonis' usage rate is down at 16.
There have been some reports about some tension.
It's been, you know, there's guys coming out saying that that's false,
but I wouldn't mind if they had some more attention
when the Magic played, though,
and we got them up out of here.
And finally, on this road trip, we got to face the Utah Jazz,
Lauri Markkanen, and this team who is, at the beginning of the season,
struggling just as well to find their grip.
Team is 1-6.
And they just cannot score the ball.
They're 26 in points, 26 in field goal percentage.
They're getting nothing on steals.
This is a team that the Magic got to control their turnovers
because that's been something
that has kept them out of a lot of these games.
And this is not a team that is adept at getting them.
So if you're turning the ball over, then you're just giving it away.
Got to do better than that.
Lauri Markkanen this season.
We're waiting for the big jump out.
Hopefully, it ain't against the Magic, but 16 points, six rebounds.
I mean, this is a guy who can turn it on,
so the Magic just have to go in there prepared
to actually play top level.
But I'm going to go ahead and get out of here.
But before I do, I just want to ask you guys down below
in the comments, let me know what
makes this a successful trip for the Magic,
a successful road trip, at least three wins
be two wins and clear progress.
We just want to see things getting better
or see it only is going to be good if we get
a sweep.
I'm going to let you know, to me, I'm going to put a D.
Just no more injuries.
If we can make it through four games,
nobody else getting injured, I'd be happy.
But I'm going to get up out of here, man.
It's your big uncle, Eric.
Until next time, it's Magic Digest.
