‘NO MAFIA-STYLE REVENGE’: Jamie Raskin’s Blunt Warning to Trump Over House Judiciary Plan

Welcome to a new era of American politics, you guys. The American people are repudiating the corruption of Donald Trump and his family. They are repudiating the authoritarianism of MAGA, and we are also repudiating all of the alliances and coalitions with Vladimir Putin's fascism tonight all over the world. And from the free state to Texas and California and New Hampshire and Maine and Michigan, we're not going back. We're never going back to that. We're not going to allow our government to be treated as an instrument of corrupt self-enrichment by the president and his family. By his own account, Donald Trump made $2.2 billion in his first year in public office. That is more than $2 billion more than every other president in American history combined. Nobody else ever dared dream go into business like that. That's more than every member of the House and the Senate made together in the two years of this Congress. And check it out, that comes to more than $1 billion an hour. I'm sorry, $1 million an hour. More than a million dollars an hour that he earned on the side in his various business endeavors. The American citizen who's earning an average salary has to work 20 years to earn in quotes what Donald Trump got from foreign governments, crypto interests and other corrupt petitioners in a single hour. My friends, we have got to start to put an end to this corruption and it starts Let's hear it for George tonight. And when I raised it before, Donald Trump Jr. says, hey, my dad doesn't even accept his government salary of $400,000. Hey, I'm sorry, Mr. Trump Jr. That's all he's allowed to accept. The framers of the Constitution were very clear that they wanted the president. To be reporting to the American people, not to Vladimir Putin, not to Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, not to the crypto criminals and the gangsters, but only the people. Here, the people rule. That's us. Yes! Reading the newspaper is not going to be like the Sopranos anymore, you guys. We're singing a different tune tonight, and it sounds a lot like the land of hope and dreams Bruce Springsteen is singing of. If I become the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, we are not gonna allow the government to be treated as a weapon of mafia-style revenge for this doddering criminal felon against his perceived political opponents, like James Comey, like Letitia James, like Mark Kelly, like Maggie Goodlander, like Jason Crow, like dozens of other Americans, including... A fellow Montgomery County and who's here tonight, please welcome Davey Hearn, the three-time Olympic canoeist. You guys know Davey. They try to set him up. They try to set him up on the reflecting pool job. Yeah, they knew from the Interior Department's report that it was Donald Trump and his, his. Pool guy from Mar-a-Lago and the cronies at the consultant company that got the insider no-bid government contract for more than $25 million. They're the ones who turned the reflecting pool into the Strait of Warm Ooze, okay? Not Davey Hearn, but they tried to send him away for 10 years for felony destruction of federal property. Can you believe that? Councilman Adam Van Graak in Rockville and lots of people throughout Montgomery County organized a movement to free Davey Hearn, and those charges were dropped permanently with prejudice against Davey. And I wrote a letter to the U.S. attorney from the District of Columbia, a Fox News host from the past, named Janine, what's her last name? I'm Okay, cool. Janine, what's her last name? starting I'll peer out. Janine Pirro. And I wrote a letter to Janine Pirro, and I said, number one, pay for Davies' legal fees. Number two, get your hands off my constituents. to And number three, if you're still looking for a felon scofflaw vandal speak in the District of Columbia, I've got a great lead now. on the guy who bulldozed the east wing of the White House and is desecrating the Kennedy Center. Well, that reflecting pool, the Strait of Hormuz, is now a symbol of the corruption of this administration. They said they were going to drain the swamp. They moved into the swamp. They filled the swamp. The banks have been overflowed. It's crawling up the Lincoln Memorial, the algae, the algae farm they created. It's going to go and creep up on the guy who created the Republican Party and all of it a gift from the guy who destroyed the Republican Party. Donald Trump's got a staph infection, but we're going to start to clean it up in January. RFK Jr., Todd Blanche, JD Vance. You know what MAHA stands for, don't you? The measles are here again. My friends, this is America. This is the people's government. This is our constitution. This is our bill of rights. And our government will be used only as an instrument for the common good, for the health care of all the people in the country. To safeguard our environment and to take care of our climate system, to protect our families, our communities, our children, our intellectual property, our democracy, our sovereignty, and our national security against those corporate practitioners of artificial intelligence who have no moral or emotional human intelligence left. We're going to stand up together and turn it Turn it around. We're going to defend humanity. We're going to defend America. We're going to see democracy on the growth track again. When Tocqueville wrote Democracy in America, he observed that democracy and voting rights were either shrinking and shriveling away or growing and expanding. And we've been in this terrible... I was going to say contractionary mode, but I'm not going to use that tonight. We've been in this reductionist mode with all of their disenfranchisement, all their voter suppression schemes. We're going to turn it around. Let's get democracy moving again. Again, it's It's 2026. How about it's time we start electing the president of the United States the way we elect governors and mayors and county executives and representatives and senators. Whoever gets the most votes wins. How about that? How about that? Something I agree with Donald Trump about is statehood, but not statehood for Canada, not for Greenland, not for Panama. They've not asked for statehood. How about statehood for the 713,000 taxpaying, draftable citizens of Washington, D.C. down the road? How about statehood for three and a half million American citizens in Puerto Rico who can vote for no federal voting representation at all? We're going to turn it all around. We're going to get democracy moving again, my friends. I was just, it was just whispered in my ear. Tell me if I'm, this may be a mirage at this point in the day, but did somebody just whisper in my ear that I was just declared the winner with 88% of the vote? Is that right? For that vote of confidence. Thank you for indulging. My campaign schedule, we went to 27 states. We raised and gave away five and a half million dollars for candidates around the country. We supported more than 175 candidates in America. This victory is our victory for America. And I wanna thank you all for being part of it. I'm gonna leave you with the words of some of the great democracy heroes that have traveled with me in my heart as I've crossed our beautiful country. One of them, Thomas Jefferson, you know, in 1798, when they passed the Alien and Sedition Acts, a friend wrote him and he said, is this really the same country that had a revolution against kings and tyrants? They were rounding up. Dangerous French revolutionaries and throwing newspaper editors and politicians into jail. And his friend expressed despair about where things were going. And Jefferson wrote him back and he said, A little patience and the reign of witches shall pass over. Their spells dissolve and the people recovering their true sight will restore their government to its true principles. In the meantime, we are suffering all of the malignities of war and national debt.
