Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe Fox 5 DC weather team discusses current mild conditions in the D.C. region, the breaking of an 18-day rain streak, and the upcoming transition to cooler, seasonal temperatures. The segment covers immediate rain forecasts for the overnight hours and Friday, while teasing a detailed winter outlook report.
I don't know. I can see at some point Mike's
weather maps being projected onto the sphere.
Oh, wouldn't that be cool? I like that.
We already hit the Fox 5 logo on the Capitol.
We do, we do.
Yeah, so why not just make a little theme there?
Maybe we make it a zip trip then, right?
I guess it would be part of it.
The morning team gets all the fun when it comes to the zip trips.
That's true.
They'll be out there.
Do we want to see Tucker's big face?
On the sphere.
Oh, I just got a little shiver
of my spine thinking about Tucker Barnes over D.C.
We love you, Chief.
We love you, Chief.
Hey, and speaking of, we did our winter outlook today.
We're going to talk all about that coming up a little later.
So if you haven't seen that, stick around.
Coming up in just about 10 minutes, we'll go through our thoughts.
And if you don't want to wait that long, Fox Local, Fox5DC.com.
We have our full write-up on the winter ahead.
There.
More showers overnight after a day that finally broke the streak.
18 straight days of no rain.
rain here in Washington. This was last week's drought monitor.
Here comes the new one this
week. And you do see, well, it's not an expansion technically
of the drought. That yellow zone is
not a drought designation. It's just abnormally dry.
The drought, though, did get a little worse
in places like Carroll County, parts of Baltimore County.
Everyone's still at moderate up there.
We do anticipate that late fall and then through much of winter,
this is going to continue to kind of erode across the D.C. area.
But after 18 straight days.
Didn't help it all that much.
We went back to abnormally dry across much of central Virginia.
Outside right now, it is mild.
It feels like an early fall,
not a mid-fall night out there across the D.C. region.
70, D.C., 69, Waldorf and Colonial Beach.
La Plata at 68, so is Upper Marlborough.
Bowie, a little colder there in Prince George's County.
65 for you, Beltsville, 67, Leesburg and Levittsville, 68.
So is Haymarket at this hour.
A lot of clouds out there.
Had some rain shower activity go on by not all
that long ago here in Washington.
Washington now pushing up to the north near Boston.
Baltimore certainly looks quieter for the moment down to the south.
However, we are still out ahead of this frontal zone.
It is multicolored,
meaning it has stalled out to the west of the D.C. region.
Out ahead of it, still having some moisture
streaming from the south and west.
This will eventually get on the move overnight.
And as it gets closer to us, probably
about 2, 3 o'clock in the morning,
it could start to trigger a few more showers.
What we're waiting on is this secondary
cold front way back here near Chicago,
much stronger, and behind it, much cooler air.
That's coming in for the weekend.
It will dry us out for your Saturday, Sunday.
Good news for the weekend there.
It will be significantly cooler, though,
than the 70s that we've enjoyed over the last few days.
Here's how Futurecast looks.
That's the 10 o'clock hour, of course.
Tonight, we get into the overnight hours.
That front gets a little closer.
That's 3 o'clock in the morning.
Futurecast even suggesting there could be a clap or two of thunder.
A little doubtful on that, but some locally heavy downpours can't
be ruled out as that system comes across.
Front then gets east of us as we head into tomorrow morning,
eastern shore, southern Maryland, northern neck of Virginia.
You guys could deal with showers kind of through the morning
and even into the early afternoon.
Western zones try to break out into sunshine first,
and then D.C. tries to do so a bit as we head
into the middle to latter part of the afternoon.
That right there, that secondary cold
front coming through I mentioned before,
just about 8, 9 o'clock in the evening could trigger
a few more light showers
across parts of the D.C. area before that cooler air starts coming in
kind of overnight into Saturday,
and it'll start feeling much, much better.
We'll have more sunshine, too, as we head through your weekend.
68 Gaithersburg, 70 Dallas, 67 Manassas.
These are high temperatures for your day
on Friday, so one more mild day.
Gets a little breezy tomorrow night,
and with that comes those cooler temperatures.
Saturday's high 62.
Sunday's not looking bad at 64 degrees.
That's very seasonal for this time of year.
And if you are heading to the Commanders game,
looks like good weather for that.
Hopefully they can get the job done against L.A.
We'll have more on that winter outlook
coming up in just a little bit here.
Angie, let's go.
