Governor-elect Gina Hino says historic victory has many excited about
a new direction for the state.
But what does her win mean for the everyday Texan?
Fox 7 Austin's Ken McCoy has more on the excitement
and expectations of local residents.
Alec, many of the supporters of Governor-elect Gina Hinojosa are still
not over the historic events that took place on Tuesday night.
And while many are excited about the change coming into Texas,
they are also excited about the policies she's ran
on that will affect everyday people.
I've been calling it kind of like the blue,
the blue nuke, because it's just been so seismic,
like the shifts that we've seen across the country, especially Texas.
For some Texans, this election was about more than choosing a governor.
It was about the possibility of change.
I suspect a full blue tsunami across the country and also in Texas.
I honestly wasn't sure how Gina would pull through in this election,
so I'm very pleasantly surprised.
Gina Hinojosa's victory marks a historic shift in Texas.
And here locally, there's a fresh outlook on what
a different administration could mean for their everyday lives.
Her campaign shined a light on issues
that put the everyday Texan first,
investing in public schools and addressing affordability in many areas.
But these tasks will require support across party lines.
She ran on a big platform of economic populism,
and I think that is kind of what resonated with the voters,
and I'm hoping that she continues that into her governance.
People are tired of the culture wars.
They want to see affordability.
They want to see improved health care and education,
and I think that Gina can deliver in that.
Locals share that representation also matters,
and for many, this victory is a chance to feel seen.
Texas is now a plurality Hispanic,
if I'm correct on my demographics there,
so I think it's good that we're getting that representation,
and I think she's going to make sure that the interests
of all demographics in Texas are fought for.
